Chapter six: The prude sisters
—————————————————————
Emily Gilbert woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. She didn't do her usual routine, she didn't clean her room, or read. The teen was grumpy as she got dressed for school and made herself a cup of coffee.
When Emily headed back up stairs, she overheard Elena and Jenna speaking.
"I feel good, which is rare so I've decided to go with it. Fly free walk in sunshine and all that stuff." Elena told Jenna.
"That makes one of us." Emily groaned entering her room. She could already see the raised eyebrows paired with the eeeeh face on Jenna and Elena.
"Where is Jeremy?" Elena asked as Emily exited her room, this time with her bag slung around her arm. She met with her sister and aunt in front of the mirror.
"Oh he left early, something about getting to wood shop early to finish a birdhouse." Jenna responds, fixing her hair in the mirror.
Both Emily and Elena raised a quizzical eyebrow at their aunt.
Realization struck Jenna's face. "There is no wood shop, is there?"
Elena and Emily shook their heads in union. "No."

Mr. Tanner spoke about the comet happening tonight, and how it hadn't been over mystic falls in over 145 years. Emily may be in a crappy mood but she was happy for her sister who was feeling joyful today and with no doubt it was because of Stefan. The two have been making googly eyes at each other all class. Even though Emily was thrilled for her sister, it made her want to throw up.
When Emily exited the class she found Bonnie and Caroline in the middle of a conversation. She fell in step with them as Bonnie talked about being psychic.
"I'm confused, are you psychic or clairvoyant?" Caroline asked Bonnie.
"Is this about the witch thing?" Emily asked.
"Yes, technically my grams says I'm a witch. My ancestors were these really cool Salem witch chicks or something. Grams tried to explain it all but she was looped on the liquor so I kinda tuned out. Crazy family, yes. Witches, I don't think so. " Bonnie explained.
"Yeah we'll feel free to conjure up the name and number of that guy from last night." Caroline spoke.
"What guy?" Emily asked.
Bonnie looked towards Emily. "I didn't see him, Care did."
"There was this super hot guy at the grill last night, he was gorgeous, black hair, beautiful eyes, a real hottie." Care described. "and he smile at me." She added with a little pep in her step.
"Why didn't you just talk to him?" Bonnie questions.
Care shrugged. "I don't know. I was drunk."

"Well I was talking to grams and she said 'the comet is a sign of impending doom.' The last time it passed over mystic falls there was lots of death. So much blood and carnage it's created a bed of paranormal activity." Bonnie explained. Emily seemed to be the only one actually interested. Nora's face was smudged in her hands as she leaned on her elbows and tapped her fingertips on the side of her head. Elena was trying her best to comprehend everything Bonnie was saying, but she couldn't keep up and Caroline was staring right at Elena eagerly.
"Hm, yeah and then you poured grams another shot and she told you about the aliens." Caroline replied sarcastically. The blonde turned her attention back to Elena. "So then what?" She asks.
Elena sighed. "So then nothing." She answered.
"You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy first kiss, or touchy feely of any kind?" Caroline continued to ask.
"Nope. We didn't go there."
"Boring." Nora mumbled. The fifteen year old had waited her whole life to do this kind of girl talk with her older sister and her friends, she was disappointed to say the least.
"Not even a handshake? I mean Elena we are friends okay? You are supposed to share the smut." Caroline reminded lowering her head closer to Elena.
"We just talked for hours." Elena professed.
"Okay what is with the blockage? Just jump his bones already!" Caroline exclaimed. Everyone gave the blonde a concerning look. "Okay it's easy." She begins. "Boy likes girl, girl likes boy. Sex."
Elena squints her eyes at Caroline. "Profound." But for a second she looks as if she's actually considering it.
"Care's onto something, not the whole jump his bones thing, but you should let down some walls." Emily mutters.
Elena turns to grab her jacket.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie asks.
"Caroline and Emily are right, it is easy. If I sit here long enough I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying I was gonna do." Elena explained leaving the girls at the table speechless.
"Now you." Caroline said turning towards Emily.
"What about me?"
"I saw you with that sexy guy at the grill, I may have been super drunk, but I saw it." She raised her eyebrows. "Spill."
"What sexy guy?" Bonnie and Nora asked at the same time.
"If you think you didn't get anything out of Elena, you're gonna be real disappointed with me." Emily gave Care a cheeky grin. The blonde stared at Emily, not so patiently waiting for more information.
"We've only met twice, and the second time he got up and ran away like I had the cheese touch or something." Emily disclosed. "End of discussion Care."
Caroline sighed. "You and your sister are such prudes."

When Emily returned home she found Elena lying on her bed. She had Emily's stuffed elephant on her stomach and Emily quickly snatched the animal away from her. "We agreed that you would never lay hands on Ellie again." Emily laid the stuffed animal down on her dresser and plopped down on her bed beside her sister.
"It was by accident." Elena muttered.
"You putting my stuffy in the oven just because you thought I stole Mr. Rabbit was not an accident." Emily recalled. "Now what's up?"
"Boy problems." Elena groaned. "I can't talk to Care about this because, her advice is a little extreme, and if I talk to Bonnie, Caroline will get jealous and suggest I'm choosing favorites, but if I talk to you, no harm done because you're my sister."
Emily adjusted in her seat. "So I'm third choice? Nice." She smiled at her sister.
"When I went over to Stefan's house today, I met his brother." Elena began. "Me and Stefan talked all night, and he never mentioned he had a brother." Emily nodded giving her sister her full attention. "His name is Damon and the whole time I was there, Stefan just stared at him. Didn't acknowledge me at all."
"Damon?" Confusion took over Emily's face. "His brothers name is Vincent."
"Who's Vincent? I met a guy named Damon today."
"What did Damon look like?"
"Well he had dark hair, light blue eyes, he looked a little older than Stefan." Emily remembered her conversation with Caroline and Bonnie earlier, about the guy Caroline saw at the grill.
"I guess Stefan has two brothers then?" Emily attests.
"Okay then, so he has two brothers and didn't tell me, I opened up about mom and dad's death, Jeremy's issues, you, Jenna and all that and he failed to mention he had two brothers."
"Maybe he doesn't have a good relationship with either of his brothers."
Elena goes into deep thought, and Emily already knows she reconsidering her entire situation with Stefan. Elena being with Stefan was the closest Emily had seen her sister to happy in the last four months, and she didn't want Elena to go back into the hole she resided in for those four months. Quit doing the things she once loved, hanging in the cemetery to write in her diary, and just being completely closed off.
Emily decided to be straight up with her sister. "Don't dismiss him because of a few things he didn't want to tell you about his family. I know you Elena and I know you're trying to find ways to push Stefan away and go back to writing in your diary at the cemetery. Being lonely isn't meant for human beings, and it's especially not meant for you."
Elena bit her lip. She wanted to argue, but her sister was right.
"He'll probably be watching the comet, you two can talk there."
"I suppose." Elena mumbles.

Elena was now telling Jenna about her encounter with Stefan and family issues. "Well at least it's an ex-girlfriend, wait till' you date a guy with mommy issues, or cheating issues or amphetamine issues." Jenna replies as she takes a bite out of her apple.
Emily was watching as her sister added way too much chocolate syrup to the ice cream. "You want some ice cream with that fudge?" She questions sarcastically. Elena looked right at her sister as she continued to drizzle the chocolate on their ice cream.
Both of their attention was caught by the sound of the front door opening.
"Jeremy?" Jenna called. Jeremy began to jog up the stairs, and Jenna was already in a fast pace towards him. "Jeremy where were you!"
Emilys eyes widened as she looked towards Elena, who was licking her spoon and shaking her head in disappointment. "That kids gonna end up in Juve." Emily whispers. Elena's disapproving head shake transformed into a nod of agreement.
"Oh no, no, no, no!" Jenna grunted before throwing the apple in her hand at Jeremy.
"Ow! Why? Why-why did you do that?" Jeremy stammered out.
"Listen up, quit ditching class or you're grounded! No discussion."
"Parental authority. I like it." Jeremy responds. "Sleep tight."
Jenna let's out a frustrated grunt before heading back towards the girls. Emily offered a sympathetic look and then offered her a spoon.
