The Art of Living

"So, what do you all think? Would you be able to get the Apple iPhone 7? Would you be able to win this game?", said the young man standing on the stage. The tall, handsome looking guy with a black turban on his head and a big smiling curve that lit up his face like a glowing LED bulb.

Satyam could feel that strange aura in the auditorium due to the presence of such a charismatic youth standing on the stage and giving the freshers a session on The Art of Living. Yes, that's what they called it.

As soon as he entered the hall , the very first statement that came out from his mouth was - "Life is a journey and we are the travellers, each with a different destination." Satyam had  never been interested in such counselling seminars before. But that one statement was enough to tell him that that counsellor knows something that he must listen to. There was some kind of supernatural force that stuck him into his chair. After hearing those words, he couldn't let himself leave the hall without attending the entire session.

The guy called for a volunteer on the stage. None was willing to volunteer for the task, so he randomly picked up a guy from the third row. He was no one else but Satyam. With shivering legs he, somehow, managed to get himself to the stage. He could see every student from up there. He could feel the jitters that arose within him due to stage fright. Firstly, he was asked to introduce himself to his other batch mates. The game was then continued.

"Stretch your hands forward."Satyam did as instructed to him. "Now, I'll ask any question twice. The first time, you'll be answering the truth and the second time, a lie. Meanwhile, I'll try to put your stretched hands down and you will have to resist it. Are you okay with the game, Satyam?", he instructed the game to Satyam.

Satyam nodded, agreeing to the man standing by his side on the stage.

"The first question, 'What is your name?' "

" Satyam. ", he replied. Meanwhile, he tried to keep his hands hanging in the air and he was successful.

" Now, tell me, 'What's your name?'"

"Uhmmm... Shashwat.", he said after thinking of a name other than that of his own.

But the second time he answered, he couldn't let his hands stretched out. The counsellor was successful in putting his hands down. The game became a little funny for him but he still couldn't find the real motive behind making him do this game.

Then, spoke the man on his mic, "So friends, that's what happens when we doubt on ourselves, we tumble. When Satyam spoke the truth, he was sure about his answer and thus, he was successful. But, when he was lying, he was in doubt as he knew it was not the truth, hence he failed in his attempt to resist me from putting his hands down. His doubts made him weak and eventually, his hands tumbled. The same is the case in life. When we say that we won't be able to do it, when we doubt on our capabilities, we always fall down. Instead of confirming your doubts, doubt your doubt. " Saying this, he allowed Satyam to get back to his place and be seated. Satyam was spellbound by this man's words. Only one thought ran through his mind, Why could I never thought of it this way?

An hour later....

The session was about to reach to its end. Many other students had aroused their questions and problems before the counsellor and he cleverly satisfied their queries with his witty examples and philosophies. All that time, Satyam chose to remain silent and carefully listened to his words.

"It's time for me to leave now. Is there anyone with any more questions. Feel free to ask friends.", he said, looking towards the wall clock that hung on the wall opposite to the stage.

"Yes, Sir.", said a girl sitting in the front row. She quickly stood up as he nodded.

"Sir, I don't want to ask anything related to the lessons that you taught us today. I just wanted to know, what according to you, could be a  possible reason for God to give this life to us.", she asked grabbing the mic with her shaky hands.

"How can someone ask such a silly question? She's just wasting his time.", Satyam talked to himself in whispers.

He replied to the question, "Okay. Listen dear, there are some questions which can only be answered by one's own self. This is one of those. The answer to this question varies person to person. So now, I want you to find out the answer on your own. Take a paper and pen and start writing all those probable reasons that could be the reason for your existence. Tell me, did you come to this life just to get to this college? "

" No, absolutely not."

"Did you come here just to pass some mere competitive exam? "

" No."

"Did God give you a place on the Earth  just to attend this seminar? "

" No.", she said hesitantly.

"The list goes on dear. The moment you find that one reason for which your answer could be a 'Yes', you'll find the purpose of your life and the reason for your existence. Thank you."

The auditorium buzzed with the sound of claps. All the students and teachers present in the hall gave him a big round of applause for such a brilliant answer. Satyam was literally astonished at his answer to such a silly question.
