Chapter 12: Love and Champagne

Hey guys! I'm so thrilled to have over 700 reads on my story! Love y'all! BTW, what were you guys for Halloween? I was Katherine Pierce!😂

3 MONTHS AFTER THE RESCUE

Elena's POV
I wasn't exactly sure why I hadn't yet broken up with Stefan. Something was keeping me from doing it. My mind told me that it needed to happen, that Katherine was the one who I wanted to be with, but every time I was around him, it was like there was a barrier in my mouth, preventing me from breaking up with him.
I wondered if Katherine had anything to do with that.
As I pondered the idea, a slight rustling near my window startled me.
"It's getting almost impossible to sneak up on you now!" Katherine laughed.
"Well, when you live in a town full of vampires, you kind of get used to it!" I replied.
She opened her mouth to speak again, but I interrupted before she could.
"Did you compel me to not break up with Stefan?"
She shook her head.
"I compelled you not to tell anyone about us. If you broke up with Stefan, he would want to know why, and you would spill our little secret."
I sighed.
"You should I know I would never tell anyone if you didn't want me to."
"You can't trust anyone." she said, playing with the ends of her hair.
It hurt me to see Katherine like this, when she got moody, and bits of the Katherine I had known from Damon and Stefan's stories came out.
I dropped the topic.
"Well, I'm happy to see you." I said, smiling slightly. I walked over to the door to lock it, like we always did on these nights, but Katherine stopped me.
"Not tonight. I have a different idea in mind." she said.

Katherine's POV
Elena's eyes practically lit up. I smiled.
"I didn't think you would be this excited not to have sex." I said, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm a romantic. I can't help it." Elena's replied, pouting.
In response, I held out my hand. She took it, her fingers entangled in mine. Just the feeling of her holding my hand made my heart flutter.
I hadn't had that feeling in a while, and to be honest, I used to think it was stupid. That love was stupid. That it didn't exist.
But that feeling was coming back, the feeling of truly loving someone. I wasn't sure if Elena felt the same way, but the idea of the date tonight was to find out.
I had a way of getting things out of people.
"Hold on tight." I whispered to Elena.
She gripped my arm as I jumped out the window and sped through the small town of Mystic Falls.
The wind rushed through our hair as we sped.
Elena held on tighter, and as I glanced at her, she had her eyes tightly shut.
We arrived a few moments later, in a spot I had searched for all day.
It was a small hill, overlooking Mystic Falls. A small waterfall ran in the background and the stars twinkled above our heads. There was a picnic I had set out laying on the ground.
Elena gasped as she took in our surroundings.
"You're adorable." I said.
She kissed me softly.

Elena's POV
Katherine and I clinked champagne glasses. The picnic she had laid out was beautiful and romantic, but I also couldn't help thinking that it was so un-Katherine-like. She didn't think when it came to dating, she acted, so I wondered why she had organized this evening in the first place.
"So." Katherine said.
"So." I responded cheekily.
"Do you like the picnic?" she asked. She looked nervous.
"It's very different from our usual date." I said, laughing.
She laughed too, her eyes sparkling.
"But I love it." I continued.
She reached over and kissed me.
"Stop, you'll ruin the basket of food!" I giggled, pushing her off of me.
She rolled her eyes.
"So concerned about her food." she muttered.
I laughed again as I opened the basket. It held chocolate covered strawberries and finger sandwiches for me and a blood bag for her.
She took it out quickly.
"It makes it unromantic." she commented.
"So. What was your real reason for bringing me here?" I asked.

Katherine's POV
I dug my fingernails into my palms, hoping in the dark, she wouldn't see.
"Because. I didn't want our relationship to just be sex. I want it to be something more." I said, looking down.
I was biting my tongue, resisting the urge to tell her to just enjoy the damn date.
"You always have an ulterior motive, Katherine. I know you." Elena said. She was looking straight at me now, and I shifted, uncomfortable.
"Can't a girl just bring her secret girlfriend on a date?" I said. My pulse was quickening. Thank god she wasn't a vampire, or she would hear my heart pounding in my chest.
"Katherine...." she groaned.
And it burst out. Maybe it was the mood, Elena's constant begging, the hope to cease my uncomfortableness, but it burst out.
I, Katherine Pierce, cold blooded bitch of the centuries, told adorable, doe eyed Elena Gilbert that I loved her.

Omigosh the feels. And I'm the freaking author!😂
