"Oh, you're awake. How are you feeling Mr. Storm?" Virgil woke up to a chirpy voice. This feeling of severe deja vu washed over the man as he sat up.
"Where am I? " He turned to face the male beside him. Caramel eyes stared back at him behind the strands of brown hair that fell onto his face. The smile he gave Virgil was warm and comforting, like a ray of sunshine.
"You hit your head against the wall, " He said, "You have a slight concussion, so it's best not to jerk your head. " Urging Virgil to lie down again, he introduced himself.
"I'm Dr Patton Hart, but you can call me Patton!" He beamed, before adjusting his darkly framed spectacles.
Virgil smiled hesitantly and awkwardly waved . He had never been good in social situations and the man's infectious happiness was rather overwhelming.
"So, what made you sign up to be a soldier? "
Virgil shrugged. "Can't remember." When he saw Patton's head tilt in curiosity, he shot the question back. "You?"
Patton's eyes lit up. "Oh, me? I was recruited as a child, around- " He scrunched up his nose in an attempt to remember. "6? Yeah. "
Virgil's eyes widened. 6? That was incredibly young! Why would they need 6 year olds for war?
Seeing the shock on Virgil's face, Patton chuckled reassuringly. "It was just training. I only started proper medic work when I was 14. My friend Logan started battle strategy a little earlier. " He smiled at the thought. "He's really smart. "
At the mention of friend, Virgil remembered something. "Hey, where's Roman? "
Patton's eyes lit up with understanding once more. "The last time I saw him, Lieutenant Remy was talking to him. Something about a session with the chief for a fear of heights, I think. " His expression turned thoughtful. "They always act differently after a session with the chief. "
"Wha-What do you mean by different? "
Patton bit his lip. "I shouldn't be telling you this, but… " He shook his head. "Just observe Jeremy Heere. The one who always has a pistol and knife on him. "
Virgil furrowed his eyebrows. How weird. He had absolutely no idea what Patton meant, but it was weird. And why wasn't he allowed to just tell Virgil? There was nobody in the room but the two of them.
"Anyway," Patton's expression transformed cheerful once more. "I can discharge you in a while, then you can go check up on your friend!"
He patted Virgil's shoulder reassuringly before leaving the room.
