9- Just Apologise

MIKE POV-

The group watched as the brunette stomped up the stairs; Mike couldn't lose his friend, not his best friend; he kept doing this. This was the third time today he had upset Will; instead of making their bond closer, he just pushing him further and further into Robin's arms.

He had never seen Will that angry... and it was because of him.

He really pushed his buttons; the ravenette wished he could reverse time; maybe he could say the right things. A heavy cloud of guilt settled over Mike, feeling the weight of his anger and the hurtful words he threw. Will's departure left a void in the room and... in him.

The other members didn't hold back, immediately turning to him, giving a stern lecture of his behaviour. El was bubbling with anger for her brother, being the first to speak despite being one to be reserved and hate confrontation, "What the Hell was that Mike? You can't treat Will like that! What, you think you're a bigshot now?" she jeered with a stern expression,

Lucas's disappointment was evident, adding, "Yeah man, what's gotten into you? You've been acting so possessive and angry lately!"

Max nodded in agreement, shuffling in her beanbag chair, "You can't talk to Will like that. He's your best friend! You need to apologise!"

But instead of taking responsibility for his actions, he was fuelled by guilt and frustration, deflecting the blame onto another, muttering, "It's Robin's fault! She's the one who started this whole mess!"

His friends weren't having it, Dustin and Suzie exchanged a glanced with one another, not believing what they just heard, "Come on, man, don't put this on her. You're the one who drew first blood; you snapped at them first." the curly haired boy spoke.

"But they were whispering." the tall boy argued.

"Everyone was whispering Mike, no one but you likes this movie..." Suzie grumbled, yet her tone was soft as she explained the error in his ways.

"Seriously!" Max eagerly added, high-fiving Suzie, "I don't know what the exact problem is, but you act like a completely different person when Will is with Robin; all of a sudden you're a child again!"

El's expression remained stoic, her voice stern yet soft, "You need to apologise to both Will and Robin." she said, leaving no room for negotiation; he furrowed brows enough to scare the toughest of people.

Mike couldn't help but feel frustration build up within. He knew they were right, but he would never admit it. With anger, he snapped at his friends just like he did to Will moments earlier. "I know, okay? I messed up! Can we just drop it already?"

The room fell into an uneasy silence, it was clear Mike was remorseful but his way of showing it flawed. The ravenette knew he wasn't just struggling with anger- it was something more; he was wrestling with his own demons and insecurities. He hated seeing Will with Robin; shouldn't he be happy? That was his best friend! His best friend's first girlfriend; he didn't hate Suzie and Max when they first met. He immediately clicked with Suzie and only slightly disliked Max because of her overly competitive personality. But Robin made him enraged...

What was wrong with him?

WILL POV-

---- Back where we were with Will <3 ----

The brunette seethed with anger, his hands shaking while he adjusted the breaks of his bike; he wanted to get home as soon as possible. It was the second time this week that he was alone; he thought he would be used to it. He couldn't hear anything, only the distant sounds of cars passing and the slight hum of the florescent streetlights.

Yet, faint shouting from a particular female voice called for him, her voice gentle and calming, "Will, wait up!" placing a hand to his shoulder, snapping him out his thoughts.

"Robin, just... just let me be alone right now." he shrugged, moving away from her touch,

But Robin didn't move, flipping him around to face her, "I get it, but I'm not going to leave you like this. Come here!" the blue-eyed girl admitted, and for the second time this week, she wrapped her arms around him in a comforting hug. At first, the brunette brimmed with anger, but as her warmth and understanding washed over him, he couldn't hold back the torrent of emotions anymore, he broke down, tears streaming down his face clinging to Robin; his only life light.

Cry Baby.

Mike was right, he was a fucking Cry Baby.

"I just don't understand why he's being so... so awful to me; what did I do wrong?" The small boy muttered against her shoulder, the pair being around the same height.

The blue-eyed girl rubbed circles into his back soothingly, "You didn't do anything wrong, Will. Sometimes people just say bad things."

"But, but, but he's right though," the brunette choked through sobs, "I am a Cry Baby," he muttered self-deprecatingly.

"You're not a Cry Baby; you're one of the strongest people I know. Who cares if you cry? It's your right!" She announced, cheering him up.

"But still; I hate it! I hate him!" Will admitted something he truly didn't mean in his heart.

"You don't mean that..." the blue-eyed girl soothingly assured him, "You love him too much, that's why it hurts more."

"How'd you-" the small boy questioned; he never told Robin of his embarrassing crush on Mike. He knew it would be too much for him once he admitted it.

"Gay intuition," she whispered in a chuckle, "We'll figure this out, okay? Mike does care for you; he just can be... dumb."

Robin held him tight in the supportive embrace, Will's anger melting into tears. He cried for the friendship that seemed to be slipping away; no matter what he'd does, he could never be happy with Mike.

But amidst his turmoil, the brunette felt a small glimmer of hope; he wasn't truly alone in this. There was someone who cared about him, who was willing to stand by his side.

As the minutes passed, Will's sadness stirred, his cries eventually turning to soft sniffles against Robin's bomber denim-jacket. Finally, he managed to compose himself enough to ask in a quivering voice, "Can we go back inside now?" his mind clearer than ever.

Robin looked at him with concern, moving away from the hug, placing both hands on his shoulders, ready to support him in whatever choice he made. She asked, "Are you sure? We can leave if you want."

"I'm sure, let's go back to the basement..." he didn't want to face Mike right now, but he also didn't want to run away from everything like he usually did; like a coward. Maybe, just maybe, he could salvage what was left of this evening.

With Robin by his side, he felt a renewed sense of strength as they shuffled back toward the house. Robin kept a hand on his back in support; preparing to be a united force, just incase the ravenette was to sprout anything else.

However, just as they descended the stairs of the dimly lit basement once more, the group of friends couldn't hide their astonishment. The earlier tensions casted a shadow over the evening but they didn't expect the brunette to appear so soon.

Yet, it was Mike's reaction that was more surprising; the ravenette had not yet noticed Will entering the room. He was visibly agitated and frustrated after the argument with his head down, pulling on his own hair, dwelling on their fight. However, lifting his head, his sight laid upon his best friend, his eyes softening; all those negative emotions melting away.

A genuine radiant smile spread across the ravenette's face; a smile that was apologetic and understanding. Will's footsteps creaked against the stairs, reaching the last step. Mike stood up from the couch, immediately walking over to the bottom of the stairs.

The brunette took a step back; what was Mike going to do? Was he going to say something mean? Was he going to hurt Will for throwing a book at him? But instead of anything mean, the ravenette pulled the brunette into a tight, heartfelt hug.

Will wasn't expecting that!

"Will, I'm so, so sorry. I didn't mean anything I said; I was just... I don't know, angry." Mike explained.

"It's, um, fine." The small boy nodded, a little awkward for it to be natural.

"No, it's not fine!" the ravenette corrected, his voice soft; the words spilling out his mouth in a torrent of apologies, expressing remorse for hurtful thing he said earlier, "I messed up! I shouldn't have said those things. I just got so frustrated, and I took it out on you, and I'm really, really sorry!"

The brunette stood still, initially too stunned to respond, his heart pounding; feeling Mike's hands around him; a gentle reminder that this was real, and without hesitation, he found himself forgiving his friend without a word. "It's okay." he mustered the courage to say.

It was really okay.

They were fine, they were best friends, after all.
