Attack
Taylor's POV
"Well, the thing I wanted to tell you was that...Taylor, I'm your--"
Taylor! Michael invaded my mind and I held my hand up, stopping Grayson.
What's wrong, Mike? His voice sounded like it was an emergency.
You have to come downstairs, NOW! There are rog--He was suddenly cut off. I flew out of the room to them and urgently searched for someone. The living room was a complete mess; all the furniture was ripped to shreds, the mirrors and anything else glass broken, and pieces of a wooden table covered the floor. How had I not heard this?
"Michael?" I called out loud and through the link. "Michael! Answer me, dammit!" I gasped. Grayson came down, his eyes taking in the scene before him.
"Rogues." He cursed under his breath.
Archer.
I sprinted up to his room right in time to see a brown wolf carry him out through the window.
"Archer!" I cried. I dived at the wolf, but it jumped out of the room, Archer in its jaws. Without stopping, I shifted and chased the brown wolf. We were outside in the woods now and I growled at it, the sound echoing.
It tried to growl back, but it was muffled with Archer in its mouth.
"Taylor!" Archer's tearful cry broke my heart and my anger increased. He was struggling against the rogue's muzzle but cried out in pain almost immediately as the rogue clamped down its jaws a little tighter, teeth digging into Archer's body.
I'm going to kill you, I promised, sending the brown mutt a visual of what I had in mind for it,
How are you in my mind? Judging from the deepness of its voice, I suspected the brown wolf was male. I circled him and grinned, revealing my razor sharp teeth.
I snarled, mouth curled in a vicious grin. I can be in any werewolf's mind. Wherever, and whenever.
Th-that's impossible, he gaped, taking a step back. His eyes were wide with fear. I'm a rogue an-and you're only supposed to be able to mind-link with people in your pack or your mate.
I halted in front of him and growled, feeling my silver eyes turn black.
I'm an exception. Was all I said before I pounced on him. I aimed for his neck and he was dead in less than a minute. I had wanted him to suffer a bit more for taking Archer, but I restrained myself for Archer's sake. I shifted back, my clothes falling back in place and I bent down to a bawling Archer. He jumped straight into my arms and buried his small face into my neck.
Dammit, Taylor, my wolf scolded. You should've kept him alive so he could tell you where the others are!
I'm sorry, but Archer was my first priority.
Okay, but don't let it happen again.
"Shh," I murmured, rubbing his back. "It's okay, sweetie, everything's gonna be alright. I'm here, I'll protect you, okay?" I felt him nod and his breathing slowed before he stopped crying.
"T-Taylor?" He sniffled. "Where's my brother?"
I hugged him tightly and whispered, "That's a good question, but, sadly, I don't know the answer." With Archer in my arms, I dashed back to the ruined home.
"Taylor!" Grayson yelled. He came out of the house, his eyes darker than normal and when he saw me, he jerked me into his chest. Grayson took a deep breath, shutting his eyes and when he re-opened his eyes, they were back to its normal midnight blue.
"Don't ever run off like that again," he said.
"Where are the others, Grayson?" My voice was hard and cold and that must have shocked Grayson, for he took a step back.
"I-I don't know," he admitted. "I was too worried about you. I contacted my father, who's alerted the rest of the pack. He told me to wait here for backup -"
"Crap," I swore under my breath. Handing him Archer, I turned back to the forest. "Take care of him, I'm gonna go look for them." Without waiting for his answer, I shifted again and ran back into the woods.
"Taylor!" Grayson called out again. But I was already gone.
Grayson's POV
I'm gonna kill that girl.
Taylor's POV
I slowed down to a light jog when I was deep into the woods and I lifted my head into the air, trying to pick up on Michael's scent.
Damn! I swore. I couldn't find anything.
Hush, Taylor, calm down and focus. My wolf guided me and I let her take over. My senses sharpened and soon, I smelled them. I growled and ran. Right there, in the center of the woods, were my friends tied up and gagged with about ten to fifteen rogues surrounding them. When I realized they were unconscious, I saw red. I shifted back and walked right up to them.
The biggest (and ugliest) one snarled at me, "Who the hell are you?"
I glared. "I'm the girl who's gonna kick all your asses." In a move too fast for the untrained eye, I morphed my fingernails to claws and lunged at them. They all shifted and attacked me, but I leaped out of the way, landing against a tree. I propelled myself off of it and began slicing and hacking my way through the path of rogues in my way.
"Damn it!" Ugly shouted. "She's a little girl! Get her!"
"I'm, like, five inches taller than you, dumbass," I glared, pausing mid-fight to point that fact out. An opportunistic rogue took that moment to try to bite me, but I quickly turned and punched it right in the eyes. As it landed on its haunches, obviously dazed, I snarled and stabbed my claws through its thick fur, right where its jugular vein was.
Shift, my wolf demanded. I obeyed. My turn. I clawed snouts, bit necks, kicked chests with my powerful back legs and soon every rogue was on the floor either injured or dead. The stench of blood was everywhere and the grass was now a grimy red. I changed back, offering a quick end to those still alive, and ran to my friends.
Unwrapping them, I whispered a quick sorry before slapping them.
"Ow!" They cried a red mark on their faces. They glared at me and I sheepishly smiled.
"Sorry," I held up my hands. "Had to do it." Michael suddenly stood up and looked around. Jason did the same, his eyes full of surprise and a hint of horror.
"Thanks." Michael nodded at me. Jason grabbed Michael's hand and pulled him closer, almost like a reflex. Michael turned pink, but allowed it.
Hmm. I'd have to find out what happened to the two later.
"Hold up!" Jason cried, holding up a hand. "Taylor just took on fifteen rogues and you're not even questioning it? She's not even hurt!"
Michael shrugged.
"TAYLOR!" Someone yelled. A panting Grayson came into view and I raised an eyebrow. His eyes were large as he saw what was left of the battle. "I-I came to help," he stammered.
"Little late for that, Collins," Michael snapped. Grayson narrowed his eyes but didn't argue. Instead, he looked over to me and became my Aunt Margaret.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt? Did those rogues hurt you?" He fussed, turning me around to check for any signs of pain. I pushed him off me, regretting it when I saw his hurt expression.
"I'm fine, Blondie," I said softly. He nodded and then, unexpectedly, he was angry. His eyes turned into an obsidian color and he growled.
"Good." Grayson grabbed each of my arms and pulled me closer so we were chest-to-chest. He glowered down at me. "Then explain this to me: WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING, GOING OFF BY YOURSELF? DO YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED I WAS? DO YOU KNOW HOW SCARED I WAS? I COULDN'T RUN AFTER YOU WITH ARCHER SO I HAD TO RUN BACK AND GIVE HIM TO HIS PARENTS! AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE YOU RAN OFF! YOUR SCENT HAD FADED BY THE TIME I WAS SEARCHING FOR YOU! AND WHEN I FINALLY GOT HERE, I SMELLED BLOOD! I THOUGHT IT WAS YOURS! I, I...I thought I lost you."
His eyes went back to normal and he let go of me and glanced down. "I thought I lost you." With that, he shifted and ran back to the house.
A new sense of pain filled me as I watched him leave and I clutched my heart at the foreign feeling.
Michael, I mentally said. Something's wrong with my heart. When Grayson left, it started to hurt.
Taylor, he quietly answered. Your heart's not broken. It's fixed.
