Chapter 27

"Keep some room
in your heart
for the
unimaginable."

Students piled into class for the very last time that Friday. Callista waved to her friends as she found her seat next to Reece. The class had an emotional air to it, filled with both excitement and sadness that it was their final day. It was midday, classes being let out early to watch the final Quidditch match of the year.

With Slytherin and Gryffindor being head to head in the tournament, this match would be the deciding one. Even more excitement jittered through the students. She knew James must be nervous. It was his last chance to win the Quidditch Cup as captain. The Marauders had not even attempted a prank, letting him focus on Quidditch.

Professor McGonagall walked into the class. "Alright students," she began and the talking began to simmer but it picked up again into small chatter. She sighed, looking at them. "We'll use this time as a study session. Get to work." She went back to her desk and sorted through some papers. Probably marking.

Callista turned to Reece. "I can't deal with another study session this week." She was good enough as is in Transfiguration. She would manage without the extra revision. She could do it next week when she studied with her group for the last time.

She leaned back into the chair, letting it fall back onto two legs, rocking back and forth. "Tell me about it. At least it's the last one."

She hummed in agreement, too caught up in her mind.

"Oh, what are you thinking about?" A mischievous grin forming on her face. "Is it Rabastan? Have you had sex with him yet? You have, haven't you?"

Callista gave her a look, her eyes widening. A rosy tint covered her cheeks. "No," She said in a hushed tone, the word falling out of her mouth in a hurry. "Reece, we're in class." Her cheeks began heating up and she knew a blush was creeping onto them.

She rested her elbow on the table, turning her body to her. "Oh come on. Dirty make-out sesh?"

"No!" She hissed, shocked by Reece's bluntness. The worst she was surrounded with had been the Marauders. "We haven't done anything." It was true. To the outside world, they have liked each other since Christmas. Between them, it had been less than that. Their relationship was filled with tiptoeing around each other, figuring the other out. Trying to find where they sat with each other. It was all still fresh and new and scary.

They did not know much about each other. Not like other relationships that had reached the point that they were supposed to be at. She liked him. She wanted to be with him. She was happy to marry him. Merlin, did that mean she loved him? Did she? She had never been in love before.

"What's gotten that look on your face? You look scared half to death." Reece laughed, though her eyes still held some concern.

She leaned closer to her, turning her eyes away from the wall she had been staring at. "I think," she paused. "I think I love him."

Reece gasped, but was quick to cover it up when some others looked their way. "Merlin," She whispered. "Well, I mean, that's a good thing isn't it? You have been dating for quite some time."

"Yeah, I guess we have. It hasn't felt like it."

"Well, seventh year has been really busy."

It has. So much happened and she could barely keep track of it all. Would it slow down when she was married? Or would the war cause it to speed up? She would miss school. The lessons. Her friends. Going to class, sitting in the Great Hall. Even detention. This was it. The beginning of the end of her school career. Her life at Hogwarts. Her childhood.

~~~
After an hour sped by, the students were dismissed. The class cheered and they all walked down to the Quidditch pitch, their cheers and excitement spreading through the halls. Though they still had a week of preparation and then the exams, it was still a time to enjoy. No more classes. Another phase passed from their life.
Her and her friends reached the stands and found their seats. Though Callista was decked out in green and silver, her heart was rooting for Gryffindor. For James. He deserved the win.
The crowd cheered as a the Slytherin team flew onto the pitch, drowning out the boos from the Gryffindors.
Then the Gryffindor team flew out, James Potter at the front, ready to play. Callista cheered against the boos and hisses from her house. Rabastan whacked Aidan on the arm when he tried joining in on the booing. Her grin widened. She should tell him she loved him. Shouldn't she? Would he react badly? She hoped not.
The captains met in the middle of the pitch, shaking hands. The returned to their teams and the whistle was blown. James had the quaffle in his hands and was heading towards the goals. He dodged bludgers and other chasers, throwing the quaffle. The crowd waited in anticipation.
"TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!"
James Potter had scored the first goal.
Two hours later, the crowd sat drenched in rain. Callista had to squint to see the other side of the pitch. Gryffindor lead by 230-220. It was close, up to the Seekers now. No one could see them. The rain was coming down too hard.
A cheer sounded from the other side of the pitch. Students and teachers alike squinted their eyes, leaning forward in their seats to discover the source. Two players sped by the stand. The seekers. They were in chase, eyes locked onto a target. The snitch.
The crowd waited, gripping their seats. Some stood. No one was still. The seekers were shoulder to shoulder, arms outstretched.
The Slytherin seeker swerved right, hitting the Gryffindor seeker. Both went tumbling down into the stands, breaking the fabric and falling into the wooden supports that held them up. A hush fell over the crowd.
The flying professor went to check what had happened. The game had paused, everyone waiting to see the outcome. The professor came out, followed by both seekers.
The Gryffindor held up her hand. A glint of gold flashed. Could it be?
"ONE-HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR! GRYFFINDOR WINS!"
The crowd, apart from the Slytherins, burst into cheers. Callista cheered with them, watching James as he cheered himself, receiving pats on the backs from his teammates. They flew to the ground where they lifted the Seeker. They lifted James too, and she swore she could hear their cheers from where she was.
Another end to another phase. This, she knew, would be remembered by a lot of them for a long time. As she smiled and cheered, ignoring dirty looks from the rest of her house, and annoyed ones from her friend, she could not think of anywhere she would rather be. The feeling only increased when one by one, her friends joined in, albeit rather unenthusiastically.
This was a good way to end the day.
Wow, writing this made me sad. Like them, I experienced my last lesson about a month ago. Except it didn't really feel like it. I do an online homeschooling. I didn't get to experience the excitement, the sadness, all those emotions, with my friends.
All I did was write some notes, watch a lesson, and that was about it. It felt anti-climatic. That was it. Now, almost done with the preparatory exams, it doesn't really feel real.
Anyway hope you enjoyed!
