Chapter 18
"To the divine,
mischievous
spark in you."
Callista wrapped James' Gryffindor scarf around her neck. She nicked it from him the day before so she could show her support for him during the Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff Quidditch match. Her friends did not approve of the red and gold but she wore it with pride.
On the way down to the Quidditch pitch, Reece walked past in her Quidditch uniform but once she noticed them she turned to walk backwards. "A Gryffindor scarf? Outrageous!"
Callista laughed. "Give me yours then," she gestured to Reece's scarf thrown over her shoulders.
They both stopped and she walked towards her. She took it off and threw it over Callista's shoulders, around the red and gold one. She pat it down once she was finished and stood back to observe her work. "Much better."
They laughed and continued the walk to the pitch. She reached her friends who had continued without her at a slower pace and said goodbye to Reece, wishing her good luck.
She smiled to the group who all gave her varying looks, ranging from disapproval to amusement. She looked at Rabastan last, who shook his head but did not hide the amused smile on his face. He threw his arm over her shoulder and pulled her forward. "By the time we get there, the match will be over."
"With you stopping every minute to fix your hair, then definitely," she argued.
"It's windy."
"Deal with it." She stuck out her tongue and he shoved her away, laughing. She joined in, regaining her balance and falling in step next to him.
~~~
"GRYFFINDOR WINS!"
The loud shouts of Gryffindor students ensued once the win was confirmed. Callista joined in, ignoring the unenthusiastic cheers from her friends. She laughed at them and continued cheering, raising her hands in the air and letting out a few whistles. She paused to brush hair out of her face but the wind would not let down and blew it back into her face.
James flew down to the bottom of the pitch with his teammates as they celebrated their win. This was their second win and they were well on their way to winning the Quidditch cup. Though she wanted him to win, she also wanted her own house to win. She would be happy either way.
"Let's go," Rabastan called, nudging his head to the nearest set of stairs. "It's cold and it's windy and I want to sleep."
With a mouthful of hair she nodded and turned to follow them, trying to get it out of her face. Amused smirks covered Fallon and Genevieve's faces. She scrunched her nose in reply. She had fun and she would not let the wind or the cold ruin her mood.
"You always want to sleep, mate," Aidan said, shoving his shoulder. Rabastan turned to shove him back and the two boys stumbled through the rows of people in a little competition of who could shove the other harder.
"You're going to fall down the stairs!" Callista called to them, concern filling her features. They gave no indication they had heard her and continued their chaos. The last time this happened, which was just last week, both boys ended up in the infirmary. They were running down the stairs inside the Hogwarts castle. On one of the stairwells, they failed to notice it moved and both of them ended up falling to the stairs beneath them. They never learn.
Fallon walked along on the stand above hers and leaned down to rest her elbow on her shoulder, almost falling off in the process, but she swiftly regained her balance. "Ignore them. Let them fall."
Genevieve piped up from behind her. "That's mean, Fallon."
"I say let them." Magorian shrugged, slipping his hands into his pockets. "Serves Rabastan right for tripping me in the corridors yesterday."
Fallon gave him a look. "He only tripped you because you spilt ink on his Charms essay."
"Which you only did because you thought he ate your secret," Callista made a gesture emphasizing the word, "stash of chocolates, when really it was Aidan."
He looked at her, his eyes widening. "The little bastard," he muttered. He turned and chased after Aidan and Rabastan who had made it down the stairs. "Avery!" He shouted, grabbing onto the wall beside the stairs to steady his turn as he bolted down them.
Aidan saw him and with a scared laugh, he turned and ran. Rabastan followed him, enjoying the chase.
The girls laughed at them as they ran away. "Children, I swear," Callista said shaking her head, the remnants of laughter still on her lips.
"How'd you know Aidan took them and not Rabastan?" Genevieve asked, giving her a look.
She smirked. "Because he shared them with me."
Fallon hit her on the arm. "And you didn't share with us!"
She laughed and the three walked back to the castle. After all, she still needed to congratulate James on his win.
The Great Hall buzzed with the excitement of the match and even the Hufflepuff team wore smiles as they congratulated the Gryffindor team and went on to formulate a new strategy for the next match. The only sourness that dulled the buzzing excitement were a few Slytherins, mostly their own Quidditch team and the few students who were serious about the sport. She guessed they were worried about their own match against Gryffindor that would end of the season, and determine the winner of the Quidditch Cup.
Callista found James sitting amongst a group of Gryffindors. Those closest to him consisted of the Marauders and Lily Evans, as well as her friends, Alice Fortesque, Marlene McKinnon, and Emmeline Vance and Dorcas Meadowes, whose blue and bronze scarves stood out against the overwhelming tide of red and gold. She was almost happy to see them there, so she would not be the only one standing out. Though she figured green and silver would always look out of place next to red and gold.
She walked closer to James and as his friends started to noticed her she put a finger to her lips and sped up. Once she stood behind him she put her hands over his eyes.
"Hello, Cal," he said, shoving the rest of his buttered roll into his mouth.
"How'd you know?" She asked, though he always guessed right. "I didn't even speak this time."
He laughed, moving her hands and turning to look at her. "Your hands are always freezing."
She rolled her eyes in a half-hearted manner and then shoved her hands under his scarf onto the back of his neck.
He made an inhumane sound and shrieked, "Hey!" He fumbled, trying to grab her hands and hold them still. "You were forbidden from doing that."
Sirius barked with laughter and pulled two galleons out of his pocket and handed them to her. "I got rid of the rule."
James gasped and looked between them. "I've been betrayed! By my two best friends!" he scooched closer to Lily and looked at her and then back to them. "Lily is my new best friend."
Callista laughed and waved at Lily and her friends, squeezing into the spot that James had made by moving. She smiled at Remus beside her, who was glancing up from his book to watch the situation unfold. "Lily is already your girlfriend, she can't be your best friend too." She said.
"On what grounds?" He said, a look of bewilderment covering his features.
"Basic best friend laws, mate," Sirius added, reaching over to pat him on the shoulder as if he were comforting him.
"You two are ganging up on me! Lily!" He turned to her and pouted his lips, waiting for her to defend him.
"They have a point." She shrugged, throwing Callista a mischievous smile.
He gasped, almost standing up. "Not my girlfriend too!" He got up and strutted over to Remus, forcing him to move up so he could sit. "Remus and Peter would never betray me like this."
"I would do it in a second if you offered me chocolate." Remus said, before returning to his book.
James' mouth opened in shock and he turned to Peter who shrugged and said, "If they have good food I'm gone."
"You are all no longer my friends." He announced, turning his back to us and crossing his arms.
Lily shrugged. "I guess I'll just date Callista then." She leaned forward on the table. Callista smiled, slightly, she was a saint for putting up with James. Or maybe she was just as crazy as the rest of them.
"Yeah," Callista called to James, leaning closer to Lily. "I'm stealing your girlfriend, James."
He turned around and pouted. "Wait," He said, drawing out the word. He got up and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "Don't leave me."
"And us?" She gestured to the rest of them. "Fine." She shrugged. "Sirius is my new best friend."
James scrunched his nose at her in defiance and laughed.
She smiled. "Anyway, betrayal wasn't exactly on my to-do list for today. I came to congrangulate you on the win."
"I never would have known with all this betrayal."
"Oh, clearly."
"Prick."
"Twat."
She stood up and took a step backwards, saluting to him. He returned the gesture. She waved to the rest and blew a kiss to Lily, who returned it with a wink. James looked bewildered and Sirius laughed, exclaiming, "Mate, I think your girlfriend has a girlfriend!"
Callista laughed and turned around to find her friends. She was pleased with the outcome of the interaction and the unlikely friendship that was forming between her and Lily. Though, she still had to break the icy exterior of Marlene and Dorcas who were protective of their group and wary of her. No one chased her away, and for her, that was a success.
!!IMPORTANT!!
Heyy so over the next few days, possibly weeks, I'll be editing what I've already written.
Nothing big but just adding to places where there could be a little more description or fixing up some errors.
So if you see a notification that an earlier chapter has been updated or something like that just know it's nothing that will affect the story will be changed.
Also sorry if there are any mistakes, I did write this while listening to a podcast XD
