Joshua quickly opened his locker and began shoving his books inside his bag. It was the end of school and he was getting excited about his meeting with Kyungmi. Vernon leaned against the locker next to Joshua, a smirk surfacing on his face.
"What's got you so happy?" Joshua and Vernon's friend, Seokmin, asked. He was a fairly studious person who had always been pretty close to Joshua. Though, unlike him, Seokmin was very outgoing and friends with almost everyone.
"Josh is going to meet up with his girlfriend," Vernon laughed.
"Girlfriend?" Seokmin widened his eyes and beamed at Joshua.
"She's not my girlfriend." Joshua hit Vernon on the arm, who only snickered at his weak punch.
"Who's this special lady?"
"The one and only Kyungmi," Vernon whispered.
Seokmin oohed at the answer. "You better hurry up then. Kyungmi is practically the princess of this whole town. Her family is crazy loaded." Seokmin nudged Joshua. "Not to be mean, and I mean no offense at all... but why is she meeting up with you?"
"I'm tutoring her for math." Joshua closed his locker and swung his backpack onto his shoulders. "She told me to meet her in the school's library."
"She called him a blessing," Vernon added to Seokmin, who whistled in response.
Joshua smiled and pushed up his glasses, but he let his expression fall soon after. "I'm just tutoring her. It's not like she actually went out of her way to hang out with me. The teacher is the one who assigned us together."
"She even touched his shoulder while walking away," Vernon continued. "A girl physically interacted with him."
"That's a first, isn't it?" Wonwoo, a close friend to Vernon, teased as he walked up to the group. He slung his arm around Vernon and leaned in. "Who is this girl Josh is going on about?"
"Kyungmi." Seokmin winked. "Ms. Perfect."
Wonwoo gave Joshua a surprised look and a breathy laugh. "Wow, look at you."
Joshua started to feel embarrassed by the attention they were giving him. A light shade of red surfaced on his cheeks.
"We should stop hanging around him," Vernon started, "he needs to go meet up with his girlfriend." Vernon gave Joshua a reassuring smile before pushing Wonwoo and Seokmin away.
"She's not my girlfriend," Joshua muttered, watching the three jog away. He sighed and turned to head to the library.
People pushed by Joshua to get to the bus or out the front of the building to their cars. He was thankful to see the wide windows, showcasing the library.
Joshua walked up to the door and reached for the handle. His eyes caught sight of Kyungmi already sitting at a small table. Joshua watched as she flipped through her notebook and brush back her soft hair. It took a second before he actually opened the door and entered the library. Kyungmi looked up and smiled brightly at Joshua.
"You remembered," she giggled.
Joshua pulled out the chair across from her and sat down. "Of course I did." He then began to blush even more, realizing how excited he sounded. "I mean, I'm always happy to help."
Kyungmi pulled out her math textbook and set it in the middle. "This whole radian section is confusing me. I don't understand how I'm supposed to complete the homework." She sighed while getting her paper ready. "I tried to finish it in my study hall, but my brain was fried."
"What part is confusing you?"
"Well, first off," Kyungmi huffed, "I don't even know how to convert radians to degrees."
"Oh, it's simple." Joshua pulled out his notebook and a pencil to begin writing down an example problem. He carefully showed her the steps he took to get to the right answer.
"Are you serious?" Kyungmi stared at the paper. "All I had to do was multiply by one hundred and eighty over pi?"
Joshua nodded. "And going from degrees to radians, you multiply by pi over one-eighty."
"The way Mrs. Kang explained it made this seem so much more complicated." Kyungmi shook her head. "Can you help me with the rest of the homework?"
"That's what I'm here for."
Kyungmi hopped over in the seat next to Joshua, scooting close to him so they both could see the book. She tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing her shiny diamond earrings and beautiful face. Joshua watched her carefully as she commentated while doing her work.
"And then I get two hundred and seventy degrees, right?" Kyungmi looked up to Joshua, staring at him with doe eyes.
Joshua nodded, although he didn't fully hear what she said. "Perfect."
Kyungmi smiled radiantly. "This is actually pretty easy after you explained it."
"I'm glad I could help," Joshua shyly replied.
"Do you think you could tutor me every weekend on Saturday? My family isn't really busy Saturdays around noon and I would love it if I could get the extra help then." Kyungmi cocked her head waiting for Joshua's response.
He was almost star-struck by her question. The all-loved Kyungmi was asking Joshua to go to her house every Saturday to tutor. "S-sure, I can do that."
"Fantastic!" Kyungmi clapped her hands together. "Let me give you my number so I can text you my address." She excitedly took out a light pink slip of paper from her bag and began writing her number down. Kyungmi signed the paper in a curly font before folding it and kissing the back. "Send me a text later tonight so I know your number as well."
Joshua gently took the slip of paper, feeling his best pounding as of it were going to burst. "Okay," he laughed bashfully.
Kyungmi picked up her bag and brushed her hair over her shoulder. "Thanks a lot, Joshua. See you later." With that, she winked and left the library.
Joshua watched her walk out of the building, her stunning curls bouncing with every step and people would stop and stare just like him. Everyone could see her beauty, and everyone was intrigued.
His eyes fell to the pink note in his hand, a soft kiss mark planted on the back.
