Chapter 28: Free yet shackled

As Shigaraki helped Yumi and Deku out of the chambers, they stood uneasily, still trying to readjust.

Yumi kept tripping over her feet, hand on the canister.

"This feels amazing.." Yumi whispered, a smile breaking out along her face.

"It sure does." Deku smirked, grabbing Yumi's hand, twirling her around himself.

"Can you lovebirds calm down a minute? I need to test your vitals to make sure everything worked." Shigaraki scoffed, ushering the doctor inside.

Yumi turned to the two still-full canisters, where Y/N floated, still unconscious.

"Are they going to wake up?" Yumi asked, looking to Shigaraki.

"Depends. Do you want them to?" He shrugged.

Deku grabbed Yumi's wrist, twirling her towards him.

"We don't need them anymore, babe. So you know, they can just stay afloat, trapped in their head, reliving horrible memories over and over. It's only fair after everything they put us through." Deku said, pouting slightly.

Yumi hesitated, before sighing. "I suppose you're right.."

"They're not going to die- well, soon anyhow. Their bodies will give in on themselves within a few weeks. Now, let's test you both."

Shigaraki ran a multitude of tests, including the use of quirks, and everything in-between.

"Well, I don't find any problems. Now off you go- leave me alone." Shigaraki said, ushering them away.

Deku happily moved out of the room, door closing behind them.

Yumi glanced back, feeling a tinge of guilt as she left her old body behind to rot.
As she left Y/N to die.

Back at U.A, the staff were meeting together, discussing plan after plan what they could do with Y/N.
Her overall existence was a threat, in the school, as well as society.
"We can't just lock her up. She's still a person." Midnight protested.
"It's going to be our best course of action until we can get Midoriya and the League Of Villains away from her every move. You know that." Nezu said.
"Until then we keep a young girl trapped away from her childhood? Nezu she's practically still a child! All we need to do is have more security measures!!" Midnight exclaimed.

"Midnight, that's enough. Nezu is right. Just until it can calm down. She can have visitors, like her classmates, and one of us can come and help her do the work. But let's not worry about that this moment. We need to find her first, as well as Shinso. Trusting him was our mistake." Aizawa grumbled.

"Well, they would have returned to the leagues base. The only problem is, is that we don't know where that is." Present Mic sighed.
"We could always turn to the media for help! Villains like Dabi are easy to spot in a crowd." Midnight suggested.

"That may be the direction we turn in. We'll also hire some detectives as such. As for now, go back to your classes. I believe the school day is going going to start again soon." Nezu said, standing up and wandering off.

"I want cake." Yumi grumbled, as her and Deku wandered around the city, hoodies pulled around their faces.

"Well, we could go get some, but I have absolutely no money whatsoever. Actually, let's just steal it." Deku suggested, a smirk tugging at the edge of his mouth.

"What a pitiful crime, stealing cake." Yumi scoffed.
"Well at least you'd have cake to eat then." Deku shrugged.

"Yeah but it's just such a stupid crime, y'know?" Yumi said, finding an empty bench, taking a seat.
Deku sat beside her, hand in hand.

"Somethings wrong with you. You're not yourself. The transfer must have gone wrong. Come on, Shigaraki can fix it." Deku suddenly said, standing up and tugging at Yumi's hand.

"Deku, I'm fine. I just feel a bit sick." Yumi lied.
"Alright. Let's head back anyway." He said, helping Yumi to stand.

Then they wandered back to their base, finding it more lively than last time.

"Where am I? It's dark."

"Your own head." Yumi replied.

I felt as if I was chained, weighted down by large metal weights, holding me down, a prisoner.
From my chair, I looked up.

Yumi looked down at me, emotionless, cold.
She was clad in a dark black dress, a harsh comparison compared to her ghostly complexion.

"Why am I stuck here."

"Well, you could say you've taken my place, I suppose. Stuck in your own head, forced to watch your life laid out like a screen." Yumi shrugged.

"But why- you were moved into your body and I'm in mine." I stressed.

"Well, it didn't work properly. Part of me is stuck here, and part of you is stuck there. Messing with the mind is a tempting thing, but it never works out well." Yumi explained.

"But surely it can be fixed."

"Well, maybe, but it's risky. Maybe this time we'll be merged as one. But for now, please wake up. Get out of this chamber, get Midoriya, and leave. Deku doesn't want you awake. That's why you're trapped. I didn't want this." Yumi explained, her cold expression filling with worry.

"But how do I wake up?"

A clock was ticking, louder with every hum of my heartbeat.

"Just do it. You can. I know you can." Yumi smiled, before she disappeared into a puff of smoke, the maiden in black gone like the wind.

I tried to stand, only to be pulled down by restraints.
I tried again, and again.
Nothing.
I reached painfully down to my legs, clawing at the ankle cuffs with my nails.

I felt it slowly snap open.
With one ankle released, I stood up.
Spinning, I found a door.

With a lot of effort, I dragged myself to this door, opening it to be engulfed in light.

My eyes widened.

I was back.
But I was still suffocating in the gruesome green liquid.

I swam up through the thick slime, pulling myself up and out.

Midoriya was still trapped.
I clambered onto the top, opening the lid and pulling him out.

With a few splutters, he awoke.

"Did it work??" He asked, looking at me with bright green eyes.

"Nows not the time. I don't think it worked properly. I think Deku wants us dead." I whispered, helping him to stand.

"My my, the lab rats escaped."
