Chapter Forty-Two

A/N: I don't know what gave me more of a headache, the flu I am fighting, or JK's character in this chapter. If there are any errors, we will blame both.

Jin lovingly ran his hand along Bam's head, "I am going to tell your dad that we need to get you another bed, too." As he did so, he couldn't help but smile as he watched Bam wagging his tail and gazing up at him with adoring eyes.

He was finishing the baby's room and trying to get it done quickly before getting ready for his date night with Jungkook. It had become their routine to have two date nights per week as long as Jungkook wasn't traveling. The idea originated from Jungkook, who insisted they prioritize it after finding a study showing that at least one date night per week helped couples have a better relationship.

Jin didn't mind the date nights, as he found that they helped with their relationship. It was during those moments that they communicated and talked about many important things. Jin also used those opportunities to challenge Jungkook, especially regarding his communication with others.

After closing the nursery door, Jin took Bam outside for a quick walk before returning inside to prepare for what he knew would be their last night out before his due date.

*****

As Jin sat in the cozy ambiance of the restaurant, he savored the sweet sound of music playing softly in the background. The staff moved around, placing a variety of dishes on the table he and Jungkook were seated at. Jin allowed himself to relax completely, feeling almost lulled to sleep by the comforting melody. However, he quickly snapped back to reality, grateful when he noticed Jungkook engrossed in his phone, unaware of his momentary drowsiness.

"Has work been busy? It seems like it's been demanding a lot from you lately."

"Work is consistently demanding, Seokjin. That is the nature of work," Jungkook remarked as he stowed his phone in his pocket.

Jin rolled his eyes and picked at the appetizers placed on the table.

Jungkook noticed a subtle change in Jin's expression, prompting him to offer an apology. "I'm sorry. Did my response offend you?"

"No. You are fine."

"Okay, how was your day? Did you sleep?"

"I did. Bam and I had a good nap," Jin smiled.

"I trust that when you refer to you and Bam having a nap, you are indicating that Bam slept in his designated sleeping area while you, likewise, slept in your own sleeping space."

"Sure."

"Seokjin, as our baby's due date approaches, I would like to reiterate the importance of maintaining separate sleeping arrangements for Bam, our dog, and our baby. Research indicates that the average weight of a full-term baby is approximately 7 pounds. Given that Bam weighs 88 pounds, a significant difference exists, requiring attentive consideration.

To mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of our baby, I want to make sure we're being extra cautious to prevent any accidents. I'll be around as much as possible, but please remember to keep them separate when I'm not. Thank you!"

Jin let out a deep sigh, feeling annoyed. It wasn't the first occasion he had received this kind of lecture from Jungkook. He found it frustrating, as he didn't believe it was necessary, considering he didn't consider himself stupid. However, Jungkook's habit of constantly researching everything meant that Jin was frequently being instructed on what he should and shouldn't do.

"Jungkook, it's important to remember that we have a bassinet for the baby in our room. Bam cannot fit in the bassinet, and I don't think he is interested in fitting in or sleeping in there. I am not clueless either, so you don't need to tell me these things."

Jungkook's voice held a serious tone as he addressed the situation. "I want to make it clear that I didn't say you were clueless, and Bam somehow manages to find his way onto your lap, even though he can't fit. Therefore, I think it's important for us to have a mutual understanding of what is and is not allowed around our baby," he emphasized.

"Got it. Thanks for the education."

"You seem upset. Are you upset?" Jungkook asked, wanting to know.

"What do you think, Jungkook?" Jin responded, glaring at him.

"Based on how you responded, there is a chance you might be upset. Why are you upset? Is it because of what I said?"

"Please stop telling me how much Bam weighs and how much our baby might weigh as if I lack the ability to understand. I find it quite annoying and unnecessary. If this is what our date night has come to, then please take me home," Jin said firmly.

Jungkook leaned forward, gently extending his hand across the table to touch Jin's, a gesture filled with concern. "Okay, I can see that you're upset, and I don't want to contribute to that. I'll avoid bringing up topics that bother you."

"Good..." Jin's voice trailed off into a whisper as he watched Jungkook place a small jewelry box on the table. "What's that?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.

"I had intended for our evening to be enjoyable, and I had not anticipated causing any distress. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to broach the subject, as it was part of my plans for this evening. Seokjin, I am certain that you are the one for me, and now that we are starting a family, I believe it is an opportune time for us to advance our relationship.

While being your boyfriend has been satisfactory, it does not align with my ultimate aspirations. I aspire to be your husband, and I wish for you to fulfill the same role for me. Therefore, I feel the time is right for us to contemplate our next steps and proceed with marriage. What are your thoughts on this? Do you feel the same way?"

Jin was utterly dumbfounded, lost for words, as he locked eyes with Jungkook.

Jungkook arose from his seated position and retrieved the jewelry box, assuming a kneeling position before Jin. "Sorry, I believe it is also my responsibility to fulfill this act," he expressed. Offering the jewelry box, he stated, "Should you accept, you would become my spouse. Are you interested? Also, I understand that I am expected to ask, 'Will you marry me, Seokjin?' So, will you?"

"You can't be serious."

"I am completely serious when I say you are the only person I can envision as my future husband. I hope you feel the same way about me. I truly believe that the bond we share surpasses that of many other couples I know. I am committed to you for life, except in the event of my expiration.

Otherwise, I promise to always be by your side, even on the days when you may prefer some space. You can always communicate your feelings to me, and I will respect them. For instance, I went for a walk when you mentioned that I was overwhelming you last Saturday. I will be more mindful of that in the future.

Jin's expression transformed from one of disbelief to a warm smile. No matter how much he tried to hold onto his feelings of frustration, he found himself unable to. This was often the case when it came to Jungkook. He realized that he couldn't stay angry at him for long.

"Are you smiling? Does that mean yes?" Jungkook asked, trying to understand Jin's now more relaxed expression.

With a nod, Jin said, "Yes, I will marry you, Jungkook, but you better keep your promise and stay committed to me and only me." He then extended his hand to Jungkook for the ring.

Jungkook withdrew slightly while holding the jewelry box and stated, "Before giving this to you, I believe it is necessary to clarify my definition of commitment. I will consistently uphold my commitment to you as my partner, however..."

Jin quickly interrupted him, saying, "You will also be committed to your job, our child, and Bam. I understand, Jungkook. You don't need to explain that."

"Understood. I am happy that no further explanation is necessary. I am prepared to present this to you," Jungkook stated as he removed the ring from the jewelry box and slid it onto Jin's finger.

"Should the ring not meet your preference, we can arrange a replacement. Also, it is not mandatory for you to wear a ring, as our marital union will be confirmed by official documentation. The ring itself functions as a symbolic representation of our marriage. Personally, I favor the concept and intend to wear a ring, although I will not force you to do the same. I will naturally recognize our marital status with or without a ring."

"Okay, Jungkook. I understand. You don't have to say anything else. I'm also happy that you've decided to wear a ring. I want you to always wear it and never take it off."

Jungkook's smile illuminated his face as he spoke softly, "I can do that for you. So, when would you like to get married? Your due date is next week, so should we wait until after, or would you prefer to do it this weekend? But first, let me ask, do you want a wedding with guests present? I don't have many people who would come, but my brother and my mom can attend if you'd like a wedding."

"You can get up now, and we can discuss those things later. I believe we should enjoy our engagement for a while before considering marriage."

"When you use the word 'wait,' please specify the duration. Are we talking about a week or a month? I want to schedule it in my calendar, so it would be helpful to have a timeframe."

"Jungkook, I am getting a headache."

"Sorry, I will wait until you tell me then," Jungkook said as he rose, leaning in to kiss Jin's forehead. "Thank you for agreeing to be my life partner. I am confident that we will succeed together."

*****

Jungkook leaned forward, his brow furrowed as he looked at the Doctor, making a concerted effort to capture every detail of her words in his notebook. "Can you please repeat that?" he asked.

Jin sat cradling their one-week-old daughter, Seul, as he listened to the conversation, but he soon found himself drifting away from the discussion as he focused on tending to the baby.

"Of course. I advise that Seokjin should abstain from sexual intercourse for a minimum of six weeks, even if he feels fine. I would recommend waiting until after his six-week check-up and my confirmation to resume any sexual activity. It's also possible that recovery may take longer than six weeks, depending on how Seokjin feels as his body continues to heal.

I also suggest using a form of birth control to allow Seokjin's body time to recover before considering having another child. In addition, for the next six to eight weeks, he should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities to take it easy." The Doctor explained, shifting her focus to Jungkook.

"Thank you for your advice, Doctor. I want to assure you that we will follow all of your recommendations. I have a question about the ideal time frame for considering having another child. While my fiance and I haven't discussed it extensively, having another child within the next year wouldn't be suitable, especially since we're still adjusting to parenthood. However, I would appreciate your guidance on this matter so we can factor it into our future discussions," Jungkook inquired, eagerly awaiting the Doctor's response.

"I suggest waiting for at least 2 years before having another child. Any time after that is fine if it fits well with Seokjin's and your circumstances."

"Considering a two-year gap, should that begin once Seul turns two years old or when Seul is around 13 months old?" Jungkook asked, needing further clarification.

"I should have been clearer about that. I recommend waiting 18-24 months before trying to have another baby," the Doctor said.

"Okay, I understand now. Thank you for explaining. I'll remember this and make sure both Seokjin and I keep it in mind. It's really important to me that we prioritize Seokin's health and the well-being of our home. Seokjin, my love, do you have any questions for the Doctor?

Are you certain it's safe for him to be discharged now? It's only been a week, and we have a dog that's very attached to Seokjin and doesn't understand personal boundaries."

"Jungkook, I'm ready to go home!"

"I no longer need an answer to my question; it seems he is prepared to leave and go home."
