Chapter Forty-Five

As Jin entered the kitchen, he found a tray covered with breakfast on the counter. He smiled as he picked up the neatly folded note resting on the counter next to the covered food that Jungkook had prepared and left behind for him.

Good morning, Seokjin:

You were peacefully sleeping when I woke up in the morning. Given the stressful events from last night, I decided not to disturb your sleep. I took care of everything, so don't worry about being tired. First, I checked on Seul, ensuring she was fed and changed before putting her back to bed. My goal was to give you extra time to rest. I also took Bam for a quick walk and fed him. I prepared breakfast for you to make sure you didn't miss out. Don't forget to eat and take your vitamins.

Today's schedule is full of meetings, so I anticipate returning home late. I will make an effort to contact you during any available breaks. Please send pictures of Seul throughout the day. Have a good day, and remember that I love you, Seokjin.

Jeon Jungkook

Jin's wide grin lit up his face, and without hesitation, he reached for his phone and sent a message to Jungkook. He attached one of the numerous adorable pictures of their daughter earlier, capturing her infectious smile and lively energy.

In another message, he shared his plans to take Seul and Bam to the park and then to a dog-friendly cafe.

Now that he felt a lot more like himself, he wanted to spend some quality time outdoors and not confine himself to the house for the entire day.

He was taken aback by how quickly Jungkook responded. He shared his thoughts about the picture and advised him to be mindful of sunscreen and to bring an umbrella.

"Why are you here?"

Upon Jimin's decision to return to work earlier than planned, of all the greetings he could have imagined receiving from Jungkook, 'Why are you here?'  was not one of them.

This unexpected response made Jimin question his decision to return early and reminded him of the difficult boss he had to deal with.

With a polite smile, Jimin said, "Hello, Mr. Jeon. It's nice to see you again. I returned to work earlier than originally planned since I had started my leave earlier than expected."

Jungkook impatiently scanned the office, his frustration evident as he searched for the other assistant who was supposed to be present that day. "Okay, where is the other assistant who is supposed to be here today? I have important meetings that cannot be delayed by your need to readjust to your job."

He wanted to avoid any disruptions to his upcoming meetings and had put in a lot of effort to make sure that his temporary assistant had finished all the required tasks.

"Since I have returned, she has been reassigned to another executive. Also, there is nothing for you to worry about. I have prepared everything for your upcoming meetings. You will find a printed agenda for your meeting with Mr. Choi at noon on your desk, which I have scheduled in the Empire conference room. As this meeting coincides with your lunch hour, I have made sure that lunch will be provided.

For all other scheduled meetings, the agendas are in the calendar invites and in a separate folder on your desk, organized in the order in which they occur. I have also familiarized myself with the needs for your upcoming project plan in Busan and should have the finalized report ready for your review within the next hour.

After speaking, Jimin exhaled deeply, feeling a sense of fulfillment wash over him. He was pleased with all that he had managed to complete and address. Returning to work had been what he wanted, so he didn't find it challenging. Taking care of a baby at home wasn't particularly enjoyable for him. He preferred facing Jungkook's scolding over listening to his child's cries.

Jungkook, puzzled, inquired, "I don't recall being asked what I wanted to have for lunch, so how did you decide what to order?" His eyes were fixed on Jimin as he continued with more questions. "Don't you think asking me about my preferences would have been the appropriate thing to do before deciding? Did you also consider Mr. Choi's preferences?"

Jimin fought to suppress a weary sigh and keep his emotions hidden as he responded, "You are right, and maybe that's what I should have done instead of taking Jin's recommendation. What would you prefer for lunch, Mr. Jeon? I can still make changes to the order I placed."

Jungkook interrupted Jimin and asked for clarification: "So, you're saying that Seokjin suggested what you should get for my lunch?"

"Yes, Mr. Jeon. I did try contacting you multiple times, but I couldn't reach you-"

"Please ensure that my lunch is left exactly as it is, and refrain from making any changes. Moreover, I am pleased to observe that you have returned with a better state of mind than when you departed. I suspect that your time away has allowed you to develop a deeper appreciation for your responsibilities and the perks of your position.

Similarly, I have realized that while you may not be the most exceptional assistant, you surpass the majority. As a result, I will be guaranteeing you a salary increase and a return bonus."

Jimin's lips curled into a subtle smile as he said, "Thank you, Mr. Jeon. I am glad that my abilities have been acknowledged, and I appreciate working as your assistant."

"You should. You are compensated fairly for it."

Later that day, as Jungkook was reviewing some important financial reports, his deep focus was suddenly shattered by a persistent knock on his office door. Annoyance crept into his voice as he impatiently called out, "Jimin, what do you want? Can't you see that I am occupied-"

Jin pushed the door to Jungkook's office, carefully balancing their daughter in his arms. "Sorry for interrupting; it's us," he said as he peeked inside.

Jungkook quickly shut his laptop, a smile spreading across his face as he caught sight of Jin and his daughter. However, a tinge of concern crept in as he spoke, "What brings you here? Is everything alright? And where's Bam?"

"Everything is fine. Bam is with Jimin. After going to the cafe, I realized we were close by, so I decided to stop by and surprise you. We won't stay, though; I know you're busy."

A smile lit up Jungkook's face as he reached out and carefully took their precious daughter in his arms, cradling her. His eyes glowed as he stared down at her, then shifted to meet Jin's gaze. "You do not have to leave. Space is abundant here, and there is a sofa. We can also have a crib delivered and set up for Seul so she can be comfortable and safe."

Jin smiled. "Are you sure? Also, I have Seul's carrier with me. She doesn't need a crib. There's no need to go through all that work and rearrange your office."

"We have a convenient onsite daycare that provides a supportive environment for employees with children. I'm sure that there are brand-new cribs available here for your use. If not, we can arrange for someone to purchase one and bring it here promptly. I hope you can stay. It's quite unexpected to see you here. You've never been here before, have you? Did Jimin give you a tour?" Jungkook asked, staring at Jin, still shocked that Jin was there to see him.

"I have never made it this far in the building before. No, I haven't gotten a tour, but maybe when you are done, you can give me one," Jin said. He didn't want Jimin to be bothered with giving him a tour, knowing that Jimin must have already done a lot on his first day back.

"I can give you one, but I need to complete the review of the report I am currently reviewing. Will it be fine for you to wait until then?"

Jin nodded and reached his arms out. "Yes, that's fine. I am in no rush. I will take Seul and go check on Bam. You can go back to work."

Jungkook's arms held closer around Seul as he declared, "I can keep her."

"Okay. Well, I will be back," Jin said, leaned closer to Jungkook, and kissed him quickly. Thank you for this morning and last night. I went to bed feeling good and woke up feeling even better."

"You don't need to thank me for taking care of you. I need to do that. I'm satisfied that you are in a good mood and relieved that last night didn't create any issues for you. I was concerned and unsure if you were experiencing any discomfort."

"I still want to thank you because you don't have to do what you do, but you choose to, and it makes me happy. Also, no, I'm fine. There's a little soreness in my legs and stuff, but nothing unexpected. So don't worry about it."

Jungkook became a bit concerned as he stared at Jin. "It may be helpful for you to decompress with a calming bath tonight. When we get home, I'll prepare a warm bath for you."

Jin knew he couldn't refuse what Jungkook had in mind, so he nodded and offered a smile.

After spending an hour with Jimin and Bam, Jin returned to the office to check on Jungkook and their daughter. Upon entering, he was met with the heartwarming sight of the crib Jungkook had talked about and their daughter, Seul, peacefully asleep in it. Jungkook was working at his desk, completely engrossed in what he was doing.

"You really had them bring the crib in," he acknowledged as he approached Jungkook's desk. After clearing a few items from the desk, Jin lifted himself onto it, settling into a comfortable position and directing his attention to Jungkook. Leaning in, he looked at Jungkook's laptop screen and asked, "What are you working on now?"

Jungkook looked away from his computer screen and met Jin's gaze. With a thoughtful expression, he explained, "I'm currently developing strategic objectives that are important to the overall company's success. These objectives guarantee that all departments, their functions, and the projects they undertake next year perfectly align with the company's strategy and vision."

"Oh. That sounds interesting. Is it a lot of work on your end to do that? Like how do you go about developing these objectives?"

Jungkook was surprised that Jin actually had an interest in what he was working on and felt happy to discuss it more in-depth. "Well, it's a collaborative effort," he replied with a smile. "Starting from the top, we gather input from different departments to gain insights into their specific challenges and opportunities. We then align these insights with our overall objectives. It involves combining data analysis, brainstorming sessions, and numerous cross-functional meetings. To remain competitive, we also compare our processes and performance with industry standards."

Jin was even more intrigued now, which led him to ask, "And once you have these objectives, how do you ensure everyone stays on track?"

"Within my company, communication and transparency are key," Jungkook responded. "The strategic objectives are usually broken down into achievable tasks and distributed across various teams. Regular follow-ups and detailed progress updates ensure everyone is moving in the same direction. We take the time to acknowledge and celebrate each milestone to keep everyone motivated and engaged. It's a dynamic process, and seeing the collective effort come to completion is incredibly rewarding to many."

"Wow, it seems you really know what you're doing at work. I like that," Jin said with a smile, feeling impressed by Jungkook.

Jungkook reassured, "I always know what I am doing when it comes to my work, Seokjin." However, he was startled as Jin unexpectedly pushed away his laptop and settled onto his lap, straddling him. "Seokjin, may I remind you that we are in my office?"

Jin let out a small laugh, "No, I don't think I need a reminder. And I'm sure you've had some interesting experiences on this desk, haven't you?" Jin playfully taunted as he adjusted Jungkook's tie.

Jungkook's eyes widened. "No, I have not. You are the only partner who has ever been allowed into any of my offices."

"That's great. That's the only response I expected."

"Okay, well, now that you've received the response you were expecting, I kindly request that you consider standing up as the current seating arrangement is not suitable for an office environment and-"

Jin's soft, warm lips pressed against Jungkook's, silencing him. After a tender exchange, he observed the look in Jungkook's eyes as he kissed him back, prompting a smile as he pulled back. "Don't worry, I'm not here to distract you. But I must say, I find it sexy that you know what you're doing for work, and you're not just someone bossing people around."

"Thank you. I always strive to put in the same amount of effort into both. I believe in giving my best in everything I do."

"You are funny without even trying, do you know that?"

"No, but I have noticed that you laugh often when I speak, so I must be quite amusing. I hope that's a positive thing."

Jin said with a smile and a confirming nod, "It is. I have grown to really like that about you and all the other things I love about you."

"Could you please elaborate on those other things?" Jungkook asked, wanting to know more.

"I will, but another day. Just know that I love you and am looking forward to our wedding."

Jungkook's eyes lit up as his hands settled on Jin's waist. "You are?"

"I am."

"Are you suggesting we get married this weekend, or do you have an earlier date in mind? I am available any day except tomorrow, as I have prior commitments."

"Jungkook, I do want us to have a wedding, so it will not be as soon as the day after tomorrow. Let's talk more about it this weekend and decide on a date, okay?"

"Okay. I won't have a large number of guests to invite. Are you comfortable with that?"

"As long as you are present, that's what is most important to me." As their lips met, Jin reassured Jungkook, leaning in to savor the moment. He could feel the radiating heat between their bodies as they kissed, and Jungkook, with his hands gently massaging Jin's hips, asked, "Are you sure you didn't come here to distract me?"

"Am I distracting you, Jungkook?" Jin teased as he undid a few buttons on Jungkook's shirt.

Jungkook admitted without hesitation, "You are being quite distracting."

"Sorry. I will get up so you can get back to work." Jin apologized and started to get up so that Jungkook could continue working. However, Jungkook stopped him and said, "You can stay here with me for a little while. Just hold on for a moment, please."

Jin let out a soft chuckle as he leaned in, resting his face between the curve of Jungkook's neck and shoulder. He could sense the longing in Jungkook's touch, the unspoken desire for him to stay put. He was careful not to do anything else to avoid making things more challenging.

Jungkook embraced Jin tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "Thank you for being here today. I didn't expect this, but I am thankful. You're always welcome here."
