Chapter Forty

A/N: I am currently neglecting my weekend cleaning to bring you this chapter. However, I have plans to wrap up a couple of these books before the summer ends if I have the energy needed. I figure if I prioritize this chapter before cleaning, it will ensure I do an update. I already know I will clean, even if I stay up late tonight.

Jin frowned as he entered the bedroom following his shower, catching sight of Jungkook sitting on the bed, absorbed in his laptop, typing away.

He couldn't suppress his curiosity as he walked further into the dimly lit room. "Are you seriously working this late?" he asked Jungkook, raising an eyebrow. With a casual movement, he let the towel draped around his shoulders slide off, revealing his silhouette in the soft glow. Making his way to the dresser, he picked up his moisturizer and other skincare products for his after-shower nighttime routine.

As Jungkook's gaze moved from his laptop screen to Jin, he quickly closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Seokjin, do you find the bathroom too small for changing? Should I consider renovating it?"

While Jin applied moisturizer to his body, he glanced at Jungkook and stated, "I don't enjoy getting dressed in the bathroom, especially with all that steam lingering in the air. Moreover, you have seen and touched every part of my body, so there should be no issue with me getting dressed in our bedroom."

Jungkook found himself unsure of how to reply to Jin. He opened his eyes and attentively observed Jin applying moisturizer to his body. Witnessing the growing baby bump deepened his admiration for Jin. Jungkook had never imagined that he would meet someone with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. He knew many people wished for that kind of life with him, but he was thankful to say that he never had that wish with anyone besides Seokjin.

Seokjin was the perfect partner for him. Not only did he complement him well in appearance, but he also had other strong characteristics that Jungkook found likable. Although there were moments when he questioned some of those characteristics, he understood that perfection is rare, and he valued the learning experience he gained from his time with Jin. This learning process was helping him become better and more acceptable, and he wanted to continue learning from Jin.

"You know, I used to sleep just like this," Jin said, placing his moisturizer bottle down and turning to face Jungkook.

Jungkook drew in a deep breath for the second time since Jin had entered the room. After a brief pause, he said, "I'm thankful you've stopped sleeping that way. As someone who carries responsibilities and faces demands at work, it's important for me to have a good night's sleep. I'm concerned that if you were to continue sleeping like that, it might disrupt our ability to have a restful night."

Jin's lips curled into a smile, nearly chuckling as he listened to Jungkook. He then responded by saying, "I love how effortlessly I distract you. And I don't mind losing sleep. A sleepless night with you is always welcome."

Jungkook couldn't help but let his gaze linger on Jin's body as he shifted the laptop in his lap and cleared his throat. "Seokjin, it's important to prioritize your sleep. You're pregnant, and I want to ensure that nothing compromises your well-being or our baby's. Perhaps we can revisit these thoughts after the baby is born. Until then, I will continue to ensure that I remain in control of my thoughts and feelings. We didn't sleep much last night; today, we did a lot with being out. You need to get some good rest tonight."

Jin pouted and said, "Fine. You are right; my sleep is important." With a sigh, he selected his night clothes and proceeded to change into them. "Also, shouldn't you be sleeping? Why are you working? I hope you don't plan on doing this often either because our bed is not for you to work in unless that work is being put into me."

Jungkook leaned back in the bed and closed the laptop with a satisfied smile. He carefully placed the laptop on the night table next to the bed. "Sorry, I don't usually bring my laptop to bed," he chuckled to himself. "But I am without an assistant and was sent a list of recommended candidates who don't seem to be the right fit for the position."

Jin picked up his towel and placed it in the bathroom as he listened. Afterward, he joined Jungkook in bed, sitting close to the end so he could maintain eye contact as Jungkook spoke.

"Why don't you hire me? I could be your assistant since you don't like the idea of me walking dogs right now," Jin suggested. He didn't see anything wrong with taking the temporary role as Jungkook's assistant. He knew it would keep him busy and give him something to do while he worked on figuring out his plans after having the baby.

"Seokjin, I appreciate your offer to help, but unfortunately, you do not meet the necessary qualifications to be my assistant," Jungkook stated candidly. Having a solid understanding of the criteria typically required for hiring an assistant, Jungkook knew that, based on his knowledge, Seokjin fell short of meeting those qualifications.

Jin's eyes widened, and his mouth hung open in disbelief. Despite his past experiences with Jungkook, he couldn't help but be shocked. "What do you mean I don't have the qualifications?" he asked incredulously. "I graduated from university and gained valuable experience setting up and maintaining my dog walking business. I successfully managed all appointments and schedules for each client while juggling my school responsibilities."

Jungkook sighed, "Seokjin, I didn't mean to say anything that would upset you. As a CEO, I need to be mindful of the decisions made within the company, including the hiring process. I am conscious of the past mistakes I have made in hiring the wrong individuals, take Hoseok as an example, and I am determined not to repeat them.

Although you are my boyfriend, I don't think it's a wise choice to hire you. It would also raise numerous questions and provoke contemplation regarding my decision being influenced by personal preference." Jungkook moved closer to Jin, sitting on the bed, gently placing his hand on Jin's, hoping to explain things without causing him too much trouble.

"Since I am the CEO, the role is for an executive assistant. This position is just as important as mine, as it involves ensuring the smooth running of my daily activities. They are responsible for managing my schedules, coordinating meetings, liaising with various individuals on my behalf, and preparing reports as necessary.

This person will also be the gatekeeper to my office, calendar, emails, and other communication channels regarding my work. For instance, Jimin currently handles these responsibilities in addition to overseeing my travel arrangements, managing projects I am involved with, and conducting research when needed.

While I appreciate your organization and attention to detail and have no doubt about your communication skills, I don't see you at the same level as Jimin.

However, Jimin is by no means the best assistant; he lacks in many areas. Nevertheless, he is by far the most competent and tolerable assistant I have had.

I also know you would not appreciate having me as your boss. I am learning to be a good boyfriend; I don't want to become your boss and ruin how you see me. So, for the health of our relationship, it is better for you to be an assistant somewhere else if that's your wish."

"Goodnight," Jin muttered, his eyes rolling in annoyance as he settled into his spot on the bed. He impatiently flipped the blanket open and climbed inside. He draped it across his body, with his back facing Jungkook.

"Seokjin, please don't be upset with me. I would like it if you could be my assistant. I have thought about it before, but that thought was based on my personal bias, which will not be healthy for the company. You play a much more significant role in my life, the most important role and I want to make sure that is clear." Jungkook expressed as he tried to reassure Jin, realizing that he may have communicated poorly, and caused Jin to feel upset.

Every day, Jungkook made a conscious effort to communicate more effectively and with good intentions. However, it was challenging for him due to his unique way of expressing himself, which his therapist had confirmed.

Namjoon also emphasized to Jungkook that others should understand and consider this aspect of his communication style. He had suggested involving Seokjin in some sessions to help him understand Jungkook better, but Jungkook had been hesitant. He did not want to add more pressure on Jin, especially as he was pregnant. He knew that Jin was already handling a lot and didn't want to overburden him.

Jin turned to Jungkook, wearing a puzzled expression. "What role is that?"

"The role of my boyfriend, future husband, and life partner is probably the toughest role of all. I know I can be difficult to be with and communicate with, but you have shown me acceptance and are unafraid to point out my mistakes. Your actions remind me daily that you truly care about my personal growth. Thank you for taking on this role and fulfilling it with such excellence. No one else could possess the level of qualification and dedication you do. You exceed the requirements and are overqualified."

Jin emerged from beneath the blanket and straddled Jungkook's lap. "It's getting harder for me to stay mad at you these days, but thank you," Jin said before kissing Jungkook.

Jungkook gently placed his hand on Jin's waist as he expressed, "I don't want our relationship to be polluted by anger or us being upset with each other. It's important for our well-being and baby that we always strive to communicate our feelings openly when we're upset, but in a way that doesn't inflict harm. I apologize if I sometimes fail to articulate my thoughts effectively, but I truly never mean to cause you hurt. You mean everything to me. Before you, I never imagined having a family of my own, but you've shown me it's possible. I am thankful for you every day and willing to do whatever is needed, never to lose what I have with you."

Jin pressed his face against Jungkook's neck and let out a deep groan. "Trust me, you won't be losing anything, he said. If anyone is losing anything, it's me, with my senses."

"What do you mean by that, Seokjin?"

Jin raised his head and looked at Jungkook, "These days, you're driving me crazy."

"I am sorry-"

"No, it is not a bad thing. It is a good thing. You are driving me crazy about you, and by that, I mean that I want the same thing you want, and I do not want to lose what we are creating. Jungkook, you are an amazing person, and I am sure our child will be pleased to have you as a father."

As Jin gazed into Jungkook's eyes, he noticed the shimmering tears welling up. With tenderness, he reached out and gently brushed them away with his fingers. "It's okay, whatever is troubling you, remember I'm here for you. Let it out," Jin reassured as he pulled Jungkook into a warm embrace. He wanted Jungkook to feel safe and supported, to know that showing vulnerability in his presence was perfectly acceptable and that he would never judge him for it.

Like Jungkook, he was learning a lot and developing a newfound understanding of the many different traits among people. It was something he had never contemplated before, and he hadn't fully grasped how these differences could lead to divisions among people and, unfortunately, result in exclusion for certain individuals who were deemed different from the majority.
