Ben thought about all the times he had had with Teddy.
Teddy trotted by Ben's side, happy to be by his master's side. His tongue hung out. They entered the forest and walked. They just walked around, happy to be outside together. Ben found a sloping place which was covered by trees. As the pushed their way up the small slope, they reached a high peak. They looked down into a valley. It was mesmerizing. Teddy barked with joy. Ben smiled at his find. The wind blew their hair and the snow was starting to melt. A few flowers were starting to bloom and a lone tree down at the ravine was growing its first leaves. Spring was arriving, a time for new beginnings. Birds were starting to come back to their homes and animals got out of hibernation. Ben looked around, he felt like he was in a different world. He thought about Teddy. He knew he wouldn't be here without the small, loyal dog. Teddy sat down near the edge where a fallen tree lay. Ben sat beside him. Ben wrapped an arm around Teddy and rested his other hand on the tree bark. They looked down into the ravine and the river that ran through it. They looked up at the clouds, slowly moving across the sky. They watched the horizon and the faint outline of mountains far away, out of their reach. Ben thought about it. He thought, maybe one day he and Teddy would go there. Teddy leaned against Ben and thought, I would do anything for my master. They sat there. The sound of birds chirping, the distant howls of wolves, the rushing of water, below them. Teddy perked up at the sound of the wolves. He felt a chill through his body. He was no pup anymore. He was not a dog. He was a wolf. His brown spots were outgrown now and he was starting to get a nice coat of silky brown and grey fur. He did resemble a samoyed but as the boy and dog sat there, he seemed to change, he looked more like a wolf. But in Ben's mind, it was just him and his best friend, his family. Just the 2 of them.
