Yurai (Part One)

This is the story of a little girl who was born with black hair, as the only one in her family. Because of an old superstition resting in the family, she was thought to serve it with misfortune, so her pure existence was one single hell...

Pain shot in her cheek when her father slapped her so hard she flew against the wall. The impact robbed away her breath for a sec. "Ugh...!!", "I knew it all along!!" The man yelled. "You are bringing misfortune to our family! It's your fault your grandmother died!!" She held her cheek. "Daddy... why can't I come to her funeral?", "I don't want you around, Mirai!" The man replied. "You've brought us enough misfortune already! First, you killed your uncle and now your grandmother too!", "But... Uncle Henry's death was a car accident! That's what you said!! And grandma suffered from cancer!", "And it's your fault." The man came closer and grabbed Mirai by her hair. "Black hair... the color only misfortune brings into the houses! Black! I should've gotten rid of you when I still had the chance!!", "Ouch! Daddy, you're hurting me!!", "Stop whining!!" The man made her fall against the wall once again and kicked her in the stomach. "I want you to disappear, Mirai! Right now! Piss off!!", "But... that all these cruel things happen is not my fault!!" she defended herself. "I don't do anything!!", "Shut up!" Her father slapped her again. "Get away from here!!", "But... this is my home! I have no where to go!!", "I don't care!! Leave!!!", "No!!", "DON'T DISOBEY ME!!" The man started kicking her again and again and Mirai whimpered from the pain. "Get out now, will ya?!", "N...o....", "No? Fine, than I'm gonna drag you out!!!" He grabbed Mirai by her hair and dragged her out of her room. "Stop!!", "Shut up!!" He kicked her. "NOOOOOOO!!!!!" She gasped when intense pain suddenly rose up in her chest. She struggled for breath and froze in her movement for a sec. Then, the pain disappeared again. Her father had nearly dragged her out of the door by now. "Let me go!!" she said. "Not a chance, miserable little girl!" Her father hissed and pulled at her hair a little harder. Mirai screamed from the pain. "Now get lost and stop with your whining!!", "LET ME GO!!!!" Mirai burst out into tears. A rattling sound was audible when the window behind her suddenly shattered out of nowhere. Her father looked around. "What the?!" The shards of the window glass were laying on the floor, widely distributed. "What the heck?" Mirai crept away when her father let go of her, and sought for shelter in a corner of her room. She shivered and cried. Her father looked at the window glass with visible irritation before he turned around to her again. "So then. Was that your work again, demon spawn? It's really time to get you fucking out of here!!" He grabbed her arm and grossly ripped her on her feet. "No!!!" She screamed. At that moment, the shards of the window glass started levitating in the air and pointed at her father before they shot towards him. Mirai widened her eyes and her father looked around. The shards dug themselves into his body. One stayed stuck in his leg, two in his stomach and one drilled itself into his rips. Another one... was stuck in his neck. He spat blood and went down. His body shrugged and blood flew on the ground... until he died. Mirai stood there with shock in her face which had turned pale like the wall behind her.
She heard steps coming up the stairs and her mother pushed the door open. When she saw her husband's dead body and Mirai who was standing next to it, her eyes widened. "What...?!", "It just happened!" Mirai said. "The window shattered and the shards suddenly started flying and then, they flew towards him... It wasn't me, I swear!!" Her mother's look turned into a wrathful glare when she looked at the girl. "YOU!" she hissed. "It's the third death you caused!!!", "It wasn't my fault!" Mirai said. "Please, believe me! I didn't do-" Her mother's hand hit her cheek. "YOU WITCH!!" she yelled. "You cruelly murdered him!!!", "No! It wasn't me!!" Mirai's mother grabbed her arm and turned around, dragging Mirai out of the room and down the stairs. "You ruined my entire life, you damn rat!" She hissed, walked to the outside door, opened it and threw her daughter on the stairs in front of it. "The day you were born was the day that drove my entire life to ruins! The day that turned everything into hell!! Don't you ever dare coming here again!! Get out of my eyes!!!" She slammed the door and locked it. Mirai sat up and looked at the door. Her arms were bruised from the fall on the stairs. She shivered. She was merely wearing a thin night dress in white, short-sleeved and reaching down to her knees. That was way too cold for an early morning in December. She stood up and went to the door, trying to open it. But it was locked, so she had no chance. "Mommy..." she looked around. It still was kinda dark and the sky was ash gray. The cold wind tore at her clothing and made her body shake from the intense coldness. She sat down in front of the door and tightened her legs, trying to make herself as tiny as possible to resist the cold. But it didn't help in any way. She hid her face in her knees and cried quietly. Her shoulders shrugged. She felt so miserable right now... her life has always been unfair like this... Just because of her black hair. She hated it so much... It was responsible for the hell she had lived in ever since she was born. She heard steps on raw asphalt somewhere nearby. Light steps. She didn't look up. The only thing she wanted right now... was to disappear from this earth. Forever. The sound of the steps muted. Then, she heard them again... coming straightly towards her. "Hey." she heard a voice asking calmly. "What's wrong with you?" Mirai looked up. "...?" Opposite her stood a young boy with dark, red hair. He wore a black hoodie and a gray jacket over it. His skin was pale, probably from the cold, and his eyes had different colors... One seemed to be injured because it was red and surrounded by black... "It's cold outside. Why aren't you in your house?" The boy asked but then closed his mouth when he saw her tears. "...I was thrown out..." The little girl replied. The eyes of the boy narrowed. "Thrown out? Poor girl... Hey, you're freezing, aren't you?" Mirai nodded. "Yeah...", "Here, take my jacket. It should spend you at least a little warmth." She took off his jacket, bowed down to her and carefully put the jacket around her shoulders. "Thank you..." she said. The boy smiled. "No big deal."
