Assaku (Part Four)
Aru woke up when he heard someone opening the door. "...Huh?" Chiba came in. "Oh, did I wake you up, Aru?" he asked. Aru nodded. "...Yeah, kinda...", "Did you sleep well?" Aru shook his had. "I had nightmares.", "Poor boy... but they are over now, right?" Aru wasn't sure about that, but he repressed saying it. "You overslept breakfast." Chiba said. "...I'm not hungry...", "You shouldn't starve yourself, Aru.", "I am not starving myself, I am simply not hungry enough..." Aru mumbled. Chiba sighed. "...you're a complicated one. Anyway, it's time for our first session now. You coming?" Aru nodded and got up. "It's going to help me getting over it, right? Over my illness?" he asked with hope in his voice. "Yeah." Chiba nodded with an encouraging smile. "If you cooperate with me, you will be better in no time.", "Promise?", "Promise." Chiba nodded. Aru went over to him and Chiba lead him down the hallways. They stopped at a door. "Okay, here, we will do it." He opened the door and let Aru in. Aru went a few steps inside but then stopped. The room was filled with different shelfs and a desk with piles of paper and folders. And in the middle of the room, there was a chair. Not just some kind of chair but a chair that reminded one of a dentist. Aru was at the dentist's once. He remembered that he was nervous as hell but nothing bad happened to him. The dentist just took a look at his teeth and then cleaned them. But according to what some other students of his class said about dentists... it gave Aru the chills. "Uhm... are you gonna check on my teeth?" he asked confused and a little nervous. "What? No." Chiba laughed and closed the door. "I am not a dentist, don't worry. Sit down.", "Is that part of the therapy?", "Yep." Chiba nodded. Aru hesitated before he then sat down on the chair and leaned back. "Keep still, okay?" Chiba said. Aru nodded and looked at the ceiling. Suddenly, he felt something cold closing around his wrist. He looked to the side and saw that Chiba was fixating a ring around his arm. "Uhm... what are you doing?", "I fixate you. You are not allowed to move during the therapy. Kids tend to always do that, that's why I am keeping you in place with these.", "Is that really necessary...? I am feeling not comfortable with that...", "It's only for this therapy, Aru. You'll be free shortly after again." Chiba chained his other arm and then his legs. "...Do I need to have my legs like that? Isn't it enough to only fixate my arms...?", "No." That was all that Chiba said to this. He disappeared out of Aru's sight. "Okay. Relax." He ordered. "It won't hurt.", "What...?" Chiba applied something on both sides of his head. It was something cold and wet. Aru couldn't see what. "What is that?", "You don't need to know. Relax." Chiba repeated. Aru inhaled. But he was visibly nervous. "Okay...", "It won't hurt." Chiba's voice was suddenly a little harder than usual. At the next moment, a wave of pain went through Aru's body and he screamed. "Don't be a coward." Chiba said. "That was the lowest level.", "Of what?" Aru asked with fear in his voice. "...electricity." Chiba replied. "Electricity?!" Aru immediately panicked and tried to get off these iron rings but they were too firm. Too stable. "You won't be able to break free, so don't even try. Endure it." Another electrical shock went through Aru's body. And another one. And another one. He screamed. "Don't be so damn noisy..." Chiba put this electrical shockers away. Aru could hear him tearing something off from somewhere before Chiba placed duct tape on Aru's mouth. "Damn, shut up. It's not that painful so stop kicking up a shindy." Aru's eyes were widened in panic. "Hmmhh!! Ngh!!! Mhmhmhpfhm!!!" He tried to break free even harder, but Chiba seemingly didn't care at all. He just continued his 'therapy'.
After a time that seemed like an entire eternity to Aru, Chiba was done. Aru felt weak. Weak... and broken. Chiba removed the duct tape. "You said it wouldn't hurt..." Aru said. "You said it would all be alright!", "It all IS alright." Chiba replied. He removed the rings and took Aru's wrist. "We'll be doing this until you're healed.", "How is this supposed to heal me?!", "I am the therapist here. I know if it helps or not." Chiba brought Aru back into his room and locked him up. Aru immediatly disappeared under his blanket and cried. Unrestrained. He cried bitter tears of despair and fear. This was hell on earth... if he had to endure this for days and days... No. He didn't want that. He wanted to get away from here. As quickly as possible. He wanted to go away. As far away as possible. No matter how... He cried for minutes. For moments. For hours. Until he fell asleep.
The night was stormy. Aru woke up from the rain drops that heavily impacted at the window and a loud thunderclap that roared through the air. A flash illuminated his room. Aru looked outside. "... The sky is so dark..." he mumbled. He pushed back the blanket and went towards the window. He could barely see anything outside because of all the water. He could only see shadows outside when the lightning bolts flashed through the dark night. Aru looked around and then pushed a chair under the window so he could climb on the windowsill. He sat down and leaned against the window frame, tightening both of his legs and wrapping his arms around them. He looked outside and quietly started singing for himself. "It's now or never, don't surrender, we came too far to die... So claim your weapon, this ain't heaven, we came here now to fight..." He swallowed his upcoming fear once again. Though his body shivered, he leaned his head against the window glass. "It's now or never, don't surrender, we came too far to die... So claim your weapon, this ain't heaven, we came here now to fight... Can we ever know... Claim your weapon now... all we have is now... All we have is now... It's now or never, don't surrender, we came too far to die... So claim your weapon, this ain't heaven, we came here now to fight... All we have is now... came too far to die... claim your weapon now... came here now to fight..." Aru let his forehead fall on his knees. "...This is no fair... I want this to end..." He started crying again. "I hate hope. Hope is when you hurt your knee badly and you want to walk again, as soon as possible. Hope is when someone breaks you down and you need to believe that you will mend... Hope is when there's war and you feel that everything that was destroyed will be restored, exactly like it was, and that it's the last war the world would witness... Hope follows bad things. When we hope it means something went wrong... Always. And what's the saddest part of all that?! Hope is many times the only thing that keeps us alive... I hate it!!"
