Happy New Years!

"Ten minutes!" announced Chiron from the podium overlooking the beach where the campers of Camp Half Blood and Camp Jupiter gathered eagerly. Dubstep music played from the speakers as the campers danced, mingled, and celebrated another successful year of quests and survival. Will Solace glanced around, looking his best friend - and massive crush - Nico di Angelo, but he could barely make out individual figures among the crowds. The Hephaestus kids had build these lasers and colored strobe lights that made the shores of Long Island seem like some sort of nightclub, so Will had a feeling Nico was standing uncomfortably in a dark corner alone. Will squinted, trying to make out people he knew in the dancing crowds. Somewhere in front of him, Percy Jackson was doing stupid dance moves while Annabeth Chase rolled her eyes and laughed at him. Jason Grace and Piper McLean were dancing together happily, and Hazel Levesque jumped up and down energetically while Frank Zhang watched her with a smile. Leo Valdez was trying to impress Calypso, who was trying to stifle her laughter as Leo almost burned down the camp. Reyna Ramirez-Arellano was standing awkwardly away from her friends, scanning the crowd with narrowed eyes. Will thought for a moment before approaching Reyna; maybe she had seen Nico.

"Hey, Reyna," Will said, waving awkwardly.

Reyna glanced at him and she narrowed her eyes. "Where's Nico?" she asked as a greeting.

Will blinked. "I-I don't know. I was about to ask you the same," he replied.

Reyna swore under her breath. "I thought he was with you," responded she.

Will cocked his head, confused. Why would Nico be with him? "Why?" he asked.

"Well, Nico told me that he was hoping he'd run into you at the New Years party," Reyna replied, before adding matter-of-factly, "But I wasn't supposed to tell you that."

Will blushed, hoping the darkness would conceal it from Reyna. "O-Okay," he said. "Where d you think he is?"

Reyna thought for a moment. "Check the darkest, emptiest corner," she replied seriously.

"Aren't you coming?" Will asked.

Reyna shook her head. "I think it should just be you tonight," she replied, her lips twitching into what seemed like a knowing smile.

Will prayed to every Greek God that he wasn't blushing like a tomato right now. "Alright, see you later," he said, walking off in search of his crush. It was difficult finding the darkest, most alone part of the beach, but when he spotted a shadow near the rocks slightly away from the dancers, he knew that's where Nico would be. Will's theory was proven correct when he saw two round brown eyes as he approached the rocks. "Nico," he said into the shadows. It wasn't a question asking if he was there. Will knew Nico was there. He just needed him to come out.

There was a pause, then Nico di Angelo stepped out of the shadows with his arms crossed, dressed in his normal attire of a dark tee shirt - Panic! At The Disco - , Stygian Iron sword at his belt, and black skinny jeans - although today's were ripped. Nico blew his long ebony locks out of his chocolate eyes and made eye contact with Will. "How did you find me?" he asked finally, his voice level and melodic as usual.

"I just went to the darkest and gloomiest spot in the party, and there you are, sunshine," Will said with a smirk, trying to ignore the frantic beating of his heart at the sight of his handsome friend.

Nico rolled his eyes. "Haha," he replied sarcastically. "Why are you here?"

"I was looking for you," Will replied vaguely. "Why are you here?"

Nico scowled and stared at the dirt. "Parties aren't really my thing, but Hazel dragged me along," he admitted.

"What? Who doesn't like parties? I swear even Reyna was bobbing her head to the music at one point," Will exclaimed.

Nico shrugged. "Parties aren't fun when nobody wants to talk to you," he responded.

Will rolled his eyes. "I want to talk to you," he said quite obviously. And kiss you on New Years, his brain added unhelpfully. Will told it to shut up. "I bet the rest of your friends want to talk to you."

Nico bit his lip. "I don't like crowds," he said.

Will thought about this before grabbing Nico's hand and dragging him to where their friends were. "Too bad!"

"Wh-Solace!" spluttered Nico, furiously trying to escape but Will held on tight.

"Special delivery," called Will as he approached the Seven, who watched amused as Nico attempted to escape.

"Finally!" Jason said with a grateful smile towards Will. "We were starting to think that Nico had died!"

Nico scowled and glared at the floor. "I hate parties," he grumbled under his breath.

Will just laughed, ruffling his raven hair.

"Five minutes!" announced Chiron.

"Five minutes until what?" Nico asked.

"You know, New Years!" Percy exclaimed.

"What?" Nico asked, confused.

"It signals the first day in the New Year," Annabeth explained.

"Also, it's tradition to kiss a special someone when it becomes midnight," Hazel added with a twinkle in her eye.

Nico flushed, glaring at her. "I'd rather die," he declared. "Bye now." Will reached out and grabbed his collar as the son of Hades started walking off, stopping him from leaving.

"C'mon, it's New Years!" Will pleaded, making puppy dog eyes at Nico, who blushed more.

"U-Uh," Nico stammered. "Fine."

"Yes!" Will whisper shouted.

Nico just rolled his eyes, his face still red.

"Hey, Nico," Percy said. "You're looking a little. . . sun kissed!" Then, he went, "Ohhhh!" and dabbed. Simultaneously, everyone cringed and let out noises of annoyance and disgust.

"Oh my gods," Annabeth groaned. "Please tell me he didn't just do that."

"He did," confirmed Piper.

"Did he just sneeze?" Nico asked. Hazel was in equal confusion beside him.

"Honey, no. That was a dab, the worst thing known to man kind. Its a horrible dance move," explained Piper.

"Okay, but do not call me honey," Nico replied.

"That looks stupid," Hazel said.

"Just like Percy," Jason commented.

"Hey!" Percy complained. "I can do whatever I want - "

Suddenly, a random camper shrieked, "One minute!"

All of the demigods chattered excitedly, meeting up with their boyfriend or girlfriend. Will watched as Nico stood uncomfortably beside Percy and Annabeth, who were talking amongst themselves quietly. Taking a deep breath, Will walked over. "Awkward much?" he asked.

Nico nodded, averting his eyes from Percy and Annabeth. "I hate all of this. Why aren't you with someone?"

Will swallowed. "I don't really. . .nobody. . .I don't have. . ." he stammered nervously.

Luckily, Nico seemed to understand. "Really? I'd thought you'd have someone, you know, since you're. . ." As Will listened, he noticed that Nico seemed more. . .hopeful, than he had been earlier.

"Nope," Will replied awkwardly.

"Ten seconds!" Chiron yelled.

There was suddenly a bustling of people, and Nico was shoved forwards towards Will. After shouting some choice words at them, he turned his head and noticed how close Will was. Not thinking, Will set his hands on Nico's waist. Nico's brown eyes widened and he blushed. "Will?" he asked.

"Ten!"

"Yeah?" Will asked, looking down at Nico.

"Nine!"

"Wh-What are you doing?" Nico stammered.

"Eight!"

Will took a deep breath. "I might as well tell you - I really like you Nico. Not just as a friend."

"Seven!"

Nico took a sharp intake of breath. "Really?" he asked.

"Six!"

Will nodded, heart pounding in his chest.

"Five!"

"I've liked you since I met you," confessed Will.

"Four!"

"Will," breathed Nico.

"Three!"

The son of Hades took a breath. "I really like you too."

"Two!"

It was Will's turn to almost faint. His crush liked him back. "Really?"

"One!"

"Yes," Nico breathed. Then, he cupped Will's face and stood on his tiptoes as Will leaned down, hands still on Nico's waist.

"Happy New Year!"

Nico and Will's lips crashed together as fireworks exploded above them and people kissed and cheered around them. It felt like the same thing was happening in Will's chest; he had been wanting to do this for so long. Around them, Nico's friends had finished and were staring open-mouthed at them, but nobody else mattered to Will but Nico. The way Nico had to stand on his tip toes to reach Will's mouth, even with the son of Apollo leaning down slightly. The way Nico's hands had moved up into Will's golden curls from his face. The way Nico's lips tasted against his own. Will memorized all of this in the few seconds when their mouths were connected, and then the two pulled away, gasping for air. For a moment, they just stared at each other; chocolate brown eyes and sky blue ones locked together. The kiss had been short and sweet; it wasn't desperate and needy, or passionate and romantic. They would have time for that later. It was simply a kiss, plainly expressing how they felt. But it was anything but plain.

Then, people squealed and wolf-whistled around them. Nico and Will blinked, seeming to realize that they had an audience. Both of their faces immediately flushed dark red.

"Finally!" Jason yelled, exasperated. Piper and Hazel were squealing as Annabeth gave Nico a thumbs up while grinning. Frank and Reyna were smiling with knowing looks in their eyes, and Percy was just staring blankly.

"Wait. . .so Will Solace is your type?" he asked finally.

Annabeth pushed him into the ocean.

Everyone laughed, talking amongst themselves and occasionally congratulating Nico.

"Wow," Will said finally.

Nico smiled slightly, biting his lip. "Are we. . ." he trailed off, but Will knew what he meant.

"Only if you want to be," replied Will.

Nico didn't even hesitate before responding, "Oh Hades yes."

Will grinned, wrapping the son of Hades in a hug and kissing the top of his head. "Happy New Year, Deathboy."

"Happy New Year, Solace."

The End

A/N: Hey everyone! Happy New Years! Lets hope 2017 isn't a huge failure like 2016 was! Anyways, today's fanfic was angst-less because I wanted you to have a happy new year, not spend the first day of 2017 with a box of tissues and makeup remover. So here's the story with the lack of updates: I was on a vacation from Dec 25 - Dec 30, so I was super busy and unable to write. Luckily, on Dec 29 (when I'm writing this) I was able to squeeze in time to write this, so this wasn't actually published on New Years. Oh well. I'm not publishing this until New Years Eve so you people can read it on New Years. Hehe. Problem solving. Anyways... Happy 2017! Ciao, Ras.
