58. Understood?

(Written for a request sent in by Kawaii_Ellie . Hope you like it!)

There was a consistent drone and hum of loud, buzzing voices in the Great Hall of Hogwarts, and the ringing of spoons clattering on tables filled Ellie's ears. For once, just once, it would be great to eat her breakfast in peace, rather than listening to the intolerable shrieks of laughter from the other side of the banquet hall, on the table furthest from hers.

The Slytherin table.

The shrieks, she came to discover, were the irritating noises erupting from the throat of Pansy Parkinson, a Slytherin in the year below her. Pansy, as usual, was draped over the table, leaning so close to Draco, they looked stuck together, conjoined, even. Probably laughing at Draco's jokes, the silly twit. As she pivoted her body slightly, her green eyes sought out for a closer inspection. Well, as much as her eyes could, since she was blind in one eye.

As suspected, Draco was making jokes.

And the subject of those jokes?

Ellie.

"She's staring at you again, Draco ..." Pansy informed, with a snarl in the sixth year Gryffindor's direction.

With a nasty smirk, Draco turned to Pansy, his eyes never leaving Ellie's. "Staring? Oh, heavens no. We all know she can't stare at anyone." He added a stupid, emphasised wave in her direction, pulling a face of idiocy. "Hello? Are you looking at me, or do you have any idea where you're looking? Oh, that's right, I forgot - you don't exactly have much talent in looking, do you?"

The table of Slytherin's giggled and sniggered, barely even having to glance at the Gryffindor table to know that he was talking about Ellie. Ellie was always the centre of attention, always picked on, for being too shy around new people, or too crazy around her friends, or, for the simple facts of her genes; one arm shorter than the other, and her eye.

She ignored Draco's cruel comment, and turned to face her breakfast again, shoving a spoonful of Dragon Snaps in her mouth to distract herself from being too hurt.

"Ellie, I can't help but ask this, but do you need one of those stupid muggle things, what is it? Ah, yes - a guide dog? Is that why you can't ride a broom? Does your guide dog get scared of flying?"

More laughs, this time louder, and a Fifth-Year girl, a few seats across from Ellie, scoffed, her curly dark hair falling across her shoulders as she shook her head. Hermione Granger.

"He's so stupid. Guide dogs are only necessary for completely blind people." She offered a soft smile to the older girl. "He's completely ridiculous, Ellie. Ignore him."

Ellie smiled back weakly, twirling her spoon through the saturated Dragon Snaps that flopped and floated lifelessly in the bowl full of milk. Her appetite was gone.

Once more, Draco spoke up, his voice poisonous. "The teachers don't need to take house points off her as punishment, guys. They only need to rearrange the furniture."

Tears pricked in Ellie's green eyes, and she felt a salty drop slide down her pale cheek, which she viciously and immediately wiped away. She would not cry, especially in front of Malfoy. She was not weak, she was strong -

"Look, Ellie - or, at least turn this way!" Pansy squealed. The temptation, after a few minutes took hold, and Ellie dared to turn around ever so slightly.

Draco was holding his arms out in front of him, smirking, and Ellie knew exactly what he was hinting at. The tips of his fingers were perfectly aligned, as were his wrists, shoulders, elbows -

His arms were the same size.

"Have you seen her arms, Pansy?" He laughed horridly. "Don't worry, cause in her right eye, she hasn't, either!"

That was the last straw. Ellie didn't want to be there right then, swirling soggy cereal about with a spoon as she put up with the shit spewing out of Malfoy's mouth. Her vision began to fog as she felt moisture in the corners of her eyes, and she could barely do anything to prevent her tear ducts leaking, save for stand up and run out the hall, straight back to the common room; her safe haven, far from any other horrid students, where those Slytherins could never set foot in.

As she disappeared, past the huge doors and along a corridor, the Slytherins couldn't help but cackle with unashamed victory.

The only thing they failed to notice, was Fred and George Weasley, exchanging looks with each other before nodding, and standing up to follow in Ellie's footsteps, glaring daggers at each and every shrieking student.

Her pillow was saturated, completely soaked with salty drops of tears, and yet they did not stop. Ellie had never cried this hard before, and yet here she was, crying a river, ragged currents staining her pale face and falling to the wilted collar of her blouse. Her eyes were red raw, and they stung awfully, her mascara was running and there wasn't a damn thing to do about it.

All of a sudden, her ears detected whispers from outside the girls dormitories, near the bottom of the staircase.

"You go up!"

"No, you go up!"

"I am not intruding into the poor girl's personal space."

"Nor am I."

"Fine. Together?"

"Together."

There was a flash of light outside her door as they both whispered a charm that pinged through her ears, and suddenly footsteps up the stairs. Ellie wiped away her tears viciously, swiping the droplets of water as they fell from her cheeks so no one would no she had been sobbing.

Two gentle knocks became apparent, and with a quick mutter of 'come in,' the two guests entered.

Fred and George Weasley.

"Alright, Ellie?" They both said simultaneously, a cheeky grin etched upon both their faces.

Ellie smiled weakly, and although she did not say, both twins could immediately decipher that happiness was not the case, and that something was wrong.

Both approached her, and as she was sat at the pillows of her bed, George took to sitting at the foot of the bed, on the left side; Fred on the right.

"Both of us know that something's wrong," George began.

"We saw it in the Great Hall during breakfast," Fred confirmed.

George nodded, before continuing. "And let's face it, we all know Malfoy's an arse."

"Well, he definitely looks like one, doesn't he? If I wanted to hear an asshole speak, I would've farted."

Ellie giggled quietly to herself, a small grin on her lips that made the twins beam with happiness.

"There! See? You're smiling, so you obviously know that it's true!" George grinned.

"A very beautiful smile, I must add," Fred continued, and Ellie felt a soft blush creep into her cheeks. She pushed her long brown hair behind her ears, looking down shyly. Normally, since she knew Fred and George so well, she would've made jokes also. But after Malfoy, and all these compliments, she was at a loss for words.

"We reckon it's really cool, your eye and your arm. It doesn't make you weird, if anything it makes you better. I'm sure Malfoy wouldn't be able to live as well as you do. He'd whine about it every day."

"Plus, it means your not a copy like everyone else. Who else at Hogwarts is like you? You're limited edition, Ell - kind of like the limited edition Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans, the special edition ones with only nice jelly beans, like juicy pear or whipped cream -"

"Or toasted marshmallow," George reminded Fred.

"Yeah! Toasted marshmallow! They're great? Aren't they?"

"Floating a bit off-topic here, Freddie," his twin sighed.

"Ah, sorry about that."

"Anyway, the point we're trying to make is that -"

"We love you for who you are. You are better than Malfoy could ever be. You have more good in your little finger than he possesses in his whole body."

"And if I could choose one person to be on the cover of Jodina Blackcorts Top 100 beautiful wizards, I'd definitely choose you over Malfoy. Over anyone."

Ellie's blush grew deeper. "You really mean that?"

"We do," they said simultaneously, and all three of them burst into fits of laughter.

"Can you see him, Georgie?" Fred whispered quietly amongst the quiet noise of students switching to their next classes. They were under a the staircase near the Great Hall, after receiving news that the Slytherins had been transferred there for an announcement about changes in the dungeons. Both twins waited quietly and patiently, sticking and remaining in the shadows, their keen eyes spotting out a familiar boy with almost-white hair and Slytherin robes.

"And then I told Potter, 'training for the ballet?'!" He announced to his group of friends as they left the hall. The crowd all erupted into fake, annoying shrieks of laughter with the arrogant brat, and as their lessons were separate, Malfoy was parted from his crowd, completely alone.

A perfect oppurtunity.

As soon as his lanky figure past the staircase, they emerged at his side, walking alongside him and linking his arms suddenly so he couldn't leave.

"Keep walking, say nothing, else your in for it ..." George said, not turning to look at a fearful looking Malfoy, whose eyes widened with terror.

They walked, remaining silent, and receiving odd looks from their fellow students. They even walked past their sister Ginny, whose jaw had dropped, standing frozen on the spot.

Soon, they arrived at the designation. A dark hallway, one that no one ever walked through. Rumours had been spread that it was haunted when the twins and Ellie were only first years, and as those stories evolved, even teachers avoided it. Not because they believed it to be haunted; simply because it was so avoided they pretended it didn't exist.

"Why are we here?" Malfoy tried to struggle against their grip, but their smiley faces did not falter, they just held tighter. "Get your filthy muggle-loving hands off me! Wait 'til -"

"Yes, yes, we know ..." Fred sighed, before they both exchanged looks and said simultaneously, "'Til your father hears about this."

"What the hell do you want me for?!" He shrieked melodramitically, his hair flipping over his pale, sickly face.

They all paused, and the twins pushed Draco against the wall angrily.

"Stay quiet, Malfoy. You know what this is about."

George nodded. "It's about Ellie."

"What? That frea-"

"Don't say that!" They both growled angrily, their faces still straight and unmoved. "If you so much as even look at her in a bad way, you'll be getting scraped off the floor of the courtyard. Ellie is so much better than you can ever dream of being, you or those little mates of yours."

"And you need to apoligse. We don't care when, or where, but you need to seriously apologise. Not a fake apology. You make her smile, else you'll never be able to smile again. Understood?"

Draco could only nod uneasily, jerking away from them both until the let go.

And, despite the damage to his pride, he did exactly as he was told, for he had never seen a wizard with more terrifying calmness in their anger than the Weasley twins.
