Imagine you are the Doctor's companion, but you are engaged to a man you love very much. You travel the universe with the Doctor, and you slowly fall in love with him. You know that he could never return your feelings, that your love is one-sided, and you marry your fiancé, despite your feelings. You watch as the Doctor conjures a romance with someone that isn't you. In the end, you are faced with a choice. Leave the Doctor to be with your husband, never able to see the Time Lord again, or stay with the Doctor, letting your husband whom you love dearly go and be lonely for all your days, watching the Doctor and his lover prance about the TARDIS.

You, of course, choose your husband, knowing that you can be happily in love with him and perhaps start a family. After all, he did wait 2000 years for you.

What you didn't know, however, was the Doctor felt the exact same feelings towards you, as you did him.
