A/N This chapter has mass spoilers for Torchwood: Miracle Day. Please watch the series before reading for it to make some sort of sense.
Lauren's POV

I woke up presumably a few hours later, my wings shimmering in the fake sun. I lifted my head to look over the lake, seeing the Doctor sound asleep next to the outcrop. I stood up and flew over to him, laying down next to him with my back in his face.
I was just drifting into light sleep when I felt his arms on my sides. My eyes snapped open, but I leaned into his hug from behind. He tightened his grip around my middle and thought,
I don't know what's happening to me.
I just stayed on the ground in shock. It was rare for the Doctor not to know what was going on, let alone not know what was happening to his own body and mind.
Is it Rose, Doctor? She's happy and safe, with the Doctor-Donna. Martha is living a happy life with Mickey and Donna is going to be just fine. You have lots to look forward to in your future, the adventures you will have.
He just sighed sadly at that. I think he was trying to use me to fill the gap that his friends had left. He was trying to get close to me, figure me out. I loved this incarnation of the Doctor, but I didn't want it to become more than a strong friendship.
By the way, Ianto died, protecting Earth from the 456. He was a strong member of the Torchwood team, and he was a great companion for Jack. Gwen now has a daughter named Anwen, and her partner Rhys is happy with her. By the way, you may want to keep an eye out for a man called Rex Matheson.
I told him about the fate of the Torchwood team, tears brewing in my eyes. There had been so much loss during the Children if Earth fiasco and Miracle Day. The Doctor hadn't shown up the whole time during these worldwide events.
No, it isn't Rose. It is you. But thank you for your information about the team, Lauren, and I'll keep an eye on Rex. You are the most bizarre creature in the universe for me right now. Your thoughts are even more confusing than your DNA. I don't know what happened but it feels as if I've just regenerated and everything's new to me again.
Doctor, leave me here, in London. I'll live for a few more centuries and then you can come back. I'll spend my time at Torchwood with Jack so I at least have some lasting company. Oh, and I'll try not to have to regenerate.
The Doctor's arms retracted and I stood up, looking at his blank face. He jumped up a second later, hooked his arm in mine and we walked back to the console room.

The Doctor's POV

She had to leave. I landed the TARDIS outside the Torchwood tower, seeing Jack running towards me.
"Doctor, it's good to see you again. Captain Jack Harkness, and who are you?"
"Stop it." I was starting to get annoyed with Jack's routine of flirting. Jack scowled at me, holding out his hand for Lauren to shake.
"Lauren. And yes, I already knew who you were, Jack. Oh, and I know about Rex, John, and Gray." She took Jack's hand and shook it roughly. Jack's mouth hung open in shock for a moment before he smiled and led her towards the tower. Lauren had made sure that her wings were hidden before we opened the doors.
"Come on, Doctor. I thought you might like to see where I've lived for a century and a half!" I walked over to Jack hesitantly. He pressed a few buttons on his vortex manipulator, and with a jolt, we started lowering into the ground. I looked around the hub, taking in my surroundings. This was where Lauren would live for the next few centuries.
"Jack, would you mind if I stayed with you for a while? I wanted to get off the TARDIS for a bit, you know. I want to stay here, on Earth, for a few years," Lauren asked, not giving away any main information.
"Oh, and don't try anything Jack, because she's a Time Lord," I told him, a warning tone in my voice. "Show him." Lauren revealed her wings, flying up to the pterodactyl that I hadn't noticed until then. Jack and I walked off the platform, down to where all the computers and alien equipment were. Gwen walked out from around the corner. I remembered her from when Torchwood had helped me save the world.
"Doctor," she stated, staring at me. She looked up at Lauren, her jaw-dropping when she saw her stunning red and gold wings. She flew down to join our little group, grinning from ear to ear.
"Where's Rex?" She asked, her grin fading.
"He doesn't live here, you know!" Jack replied with a slight note of 'I thought that was obvious'.
"I just thought you guys wanted to keep an eye on him, you know, after what happened. Oh, I haven't told the Doctor here what happened. I thought you'd like to?" Lauren responded. Jack went stiff and glanced at Gwen for approval before continuing.
"Rex Matheson became a member of Torchwood during Miracle Day. Esther Drummond also became a member at the time. She died saving the world, while Rex and I survived. We all went to her memorial service and found out that, after being shot in the heart, Rex was immortal, like me. We assume this is because we transferred my blood into his body, a way to make sure we had the right circumstances. So, a good enough explanation?" Jack asked me. I just stared back. My mind wondering about this Rex Matheson and what he would become, with immortality. Lauren folded her wings around her, bringing me back from my thoughts, and I nodded, walking back towards the entrance, towards the TARDIS.
"Doctor?" Lauren called after me. I turned to face her, her eyes watering, "Let Indi stay with you. You need some company. Just spend a while with her, take some time to think before coming to pick me up. By the way, I don't want to do this either. I know how you feel about me. You talk in your sleep. Please, keep her close, for me." Then she pulled me in for a tight hug, a warm, heartfelt hug. I would see her again when I was ready. I was going to travel with Indi for a while, get to know her, get to know Lauren better through her. This was a plan.
