The Story

Lauren's POV

I talked for a while about Doctor Who, and how it followed the Doctor's life and adventures. He seemed to listen more by the second, but then I got to the part about knowing what was going to happen in his future. He was not impressed with that. But he was also fairly annoyed that he had yet another person who looked exactly like him.
When I'd finished, he told me about my DNA being odd. He explained how I could never go back to being human, and I couldn't get rid of my wings. I think he was also happy finding out he wasn't the last of his kind, again. He told me about how my Time Lord DNA was hidden, until I came into contact with their technology, in other words, the TARDIS.
After our little chat, he helped me get up, and we walked back up the corridor to the console room. Indi was sitting in the chair beside the console when we came out.
"Where've you been? I've been up here for ages!" She shouted at us as we emerged from under the console. "Oh, here, let me help," she added as she saw how much pain I was in, just walking. Indi was a few years older than me, so she was strong enough to help me up the ramp. My drooping wings hit the back of her legs a couple of times as we walked up and sat on the chair. I had to tell her.
"Indi?"
"Yes?" She asked in reply.
"I need to tell you something," she braced herself for the news, "I'm a Time Lord." Her eyes widened and looked down at my chest area. She put her hand on my chest, feeling my double heartbeat. I had always dreamed of saying those words, but now that I'd actually done it, it didn't feel as I imagined. I would live long past her lifetime, having to see her go, then I would have nothing left. Well, nothing but the Doctor, but he was already around 905 years old. The TARDIS hummed as I looked down at my feet. I wasn't sure about what was going to happen next, but, when does anyone really know?

The Doctor's POV

Lauren was definitely brave, I could tell from the moment she'd woken up. My mind kept going back to when I'd jumped into the lake to save her. It must have been the instinct to save my own, then again, I destroyed my home planet, so it can't be instinct. Something else was going on. That Doctor Who thing was interesting though, I have to admit, they can put a lot of detail in those episodes.
I looked up to see Indi's hand resting on Lauren's chest, her mouth wide open in shock and surprise. Lauren was looking down at her feet, so I put my arm around her as comfort. She flinched at my touch, but relaxed after a few seconds. She looked up at me her eyes questioning.
"Doctor?"
"Yes, Lauren?" I wondered what her next question would be, hoping it wasn't an awkward question.
"What animal DNA do I have, because I know for a fact that the Time Lords didn't have wings?" I stared into her blue and gold eyes, not having a response to that question.
"How about we get you feeling better, then we can talk about this," I suggested, hoping that she would take up my offer of help. She nodded, so Indi and I helped her into the medical bay.
I picked up a small needle and expertly injected it into her arm. I drew a small amount of blood, then went to do a DNA test. I put the tube of blood in the machine and waited for the result. When it came up, I was in utter shock. Her extra strand of DNA was of a species even the TARDIS couldn't match with.
I walked back over to where Lauren was laying and stroked her right side. I had seen her collapse to the right earlier, so I assumed that was where the problem was. I scanned her with my sonic screwdriver, taking the readings of a deep cut. I looked up at Lauren with wondering eyes.
"Can I?" I asked, gesturing with my hand at her side. She nodded and I lifted up her t-shirt. I saw the deep red mark down her side, but I was sure when I had first taken her into the TARDIS that it wasn't there. I then got Lauren to roll over so she was on her left side. I examined her back, a similar mark running down her spine. This was odd. Too odd for my liking.
I scanned her spine, being careful not to touch the wing joints, and looked at the readings. Nothing came up on the sonic, nothing to say she even had a mark. Something was happening to my new Time Lord acquaintance. She suddenly curled towards her left side, pain evident on her face. As I rolled her over, I realised another red mark, a lot brighter than the other two, had appeared.
"What just happened Lauren?" Her face was scrunched up in pain, and she didn't respond. She had her eyes squeezed shut, trying to stop the pain.
