The Great Escape
Fighting. That was what I was doing right now. It had been a month since I started fighting in the arena and I almost had enough of my magic rejuvenated to make a portal all the way home. It would take a lot out of me, but I've lasted this long, I can last a little longer.
My head whipped to the side as some phsyco alien chick's club cracked me across the face. I better focus on this one otherwise I won't eat tonight. That's how the arena works, you win a fight, you eat. You lose, you don't. Simple. So far I haven't lost so now they are sending harder people, the crowd wants me to lose, badly.
The alien smiles at me, sending shivers down my spine. He grip on her club tightens. She and I both know that if she didn't have it, I would already be walking away. Because I have magic, I don't get a weapon. That's ok, I don't need my magic either. Plus, there is the fact that I am charging it up so I can get off of this planet. I spit out the blood that had piled in my mouth from her last hit and went in. First, I disarmed her by aiming my kick at her meaty wrists. The shock from my attack on her wrists made her drop the club. Kicking it away I send another kick at her face which dazes her. I'm now ready to end this. I run toward her and send a flying kick to her nose ( or whatever those face holes are, she's an alien I don't really know their anatomy).
I've won and I feel my powers come back fully. I don't have to worry about eating tonight, it's time to take my leave. I turn and sprint at the open door, taking out both guards as I make it outside the arena. Sprinting, I take out guards as I run past them, picking up one of their guns on the way. I'm literally shooting my way off this planet... awesome.
I somehow made it back to the place I recognized as where I first woke up here. Stolen, from my own bed. This is it. It is literally now or never. Life and death. I close my eyes slowly, focusing all my powers on the portal. I can hear their footsteps padding across the ground, and their voices calling out to one another as well as to me. They slowly become muffled and I can feel myself being pulled from the planet. Gun shots rang out but it was already too late. I was already gone.
. . .
I let out a groan as my eyes fluttered open. I took a deep breath, it felt good, I could breathe. I realized I was lying down so I slowly sat up, my head pounding as I did so. "Sweetie are you alright?" I snapped my head to where the voice came from. It was an old woman who was leaning on her cane as she peered down at me. I nearly broke down right there.
She was human.
I stood up and shifted my gaze to the sky. It was blue with fluffy white clouds and the sun was shining oh so nicely. I looked back to the woman who hadn't moved yet. "Can you please tell me where I am?"
"Metropolis."
"Thanks." I said happily as I looked around me. Metropolis. Very close to Gotham and Central City. I vaguely remember being here once but not enough to know my way back to Central City. I turned back to the old lady but she was gone, strange. I shook it off however and started walking. It took me a minute to see that people were staring at me, and another minute to realize that it was my attire. I looked down at my dirty and worn out combat suit, complete with armor and all.
Stepping into an alley way, I used what little strength I had left to change my clothes since I didn't have enough to portal me to Central City. I got back to Earth, I'm just thankful it was on the same continent. I changed into blue jeans, a dark green t-shit, a leather jacked, and black combat boots. This will do.
Emerging from the alley, I asked the nearest person which way Central City was. Getting my answer, I started on my way back home, good think it was only a few miles so walking won't be so bad. My powers might have recharged by the time I get there anyway.
I'm coming home.
. . .
I finally made it to the city and believe me, when I saw the sign that welcomed people to the city, I nearly broke down right there. Now, actually in the city, I'm still on the verge of tears. I stop on a street corner and close my eyes, taking in Central City in all its glory. I let out a deep breath that I hadn't even realized I was holding and smiled. I made it. I freaking made it. After a year- yes a year, I checked the date on a newspaper stand- I am home and ready to see my friends. If they haven't forgotten about me.
No. Don't think about that. They would not just abandon you after only a year. They would look...right? Of course they would. Picking up my pace I somehow made it to the park. So many things happened in this park. I sit down on a bench and smiled at the people around, they looked so happy. Now, I was too.
A familiar tug told me that I was now at full power, and I used this to teleport to the cave.
. . .
I stood in the little lounge area where the living room/kitchen was and took it all in. Nothing had changed a bit. I looked towards the couch to see the team, all of them were sitting on it conversing and watching tv. All but Megan that is, she was actually in the kitchen behind me. I know because I heard her gasp and drop the glass plate she was holding making it shatter on the ground.
"Nicole?" Megan asked, even though she can clearly see that it's me. I smile and this time the tears come. She flies over and gives me the biggest hug I had ever had. I sniff and look behind me at the team who was staring, jaws dropped.
"You guys are gonna catch flies if you keep your mouths open." I said as more tears came to my eyes and streamed down my cheeks. Artemis was the first one to react and rush over to me, tackling me into yet another hug. The guys soon followed. All but one.
When the hug was over I looked up and caught eye contact with a specific red head. He stood there, just staring at me. I gave him a smile and I could see tears in his eyes. He snapped out of his dazed state and wrapped his arms around me.
"Where were you?"
