18. Good Day Sunshine

"Well would you look at the lovebirds." John cracked making my eyes shoot open to be met with a pool of light washing into the room. I had fallen asleep in George's arms last night and George must've slept as heavily as me because he had also woken up with a jolt.

"John, have you heard of knocking?" George asked with a twinge of irritation on his raspy voice as he released me from his arms. John only smiled admiringly as he stared down at the two of us. I groaned suddenly and dug my head into George's side taking in his scent of sandalwood filled me with a sense of joy.

"What's the matter love?" George asked warmly.

"It's a school day." I groaned into his side. Of course, as soon as I had gotten myself out of trouble I put myself right back into it.

"I've got that taken care of." John spoke casually. I lifted my head and looked at John with narrowed eyes.

"How?" I challenged curiously. His smug expression grew immensely.

"Well the principal called, so I told him you were sick." John shrugged. "I do a great impression of Brian." He smiled satisfied making me groan.

Although how badly I wanted to cringe at the thought of John trying to mimic my uncle, I was just glad I wasn't in trouble.

"Let's get a move on kids, we've got big plans for today." John spoke with a clap of his hands before disappearing from the doorframe. I turned to George who was still lying down looking groggily up at me. I watched as his lips curved upwards slightly at the sight of my face.

"Good morning." He grinned sleepily.

"Good morning." I leaned down to peck him on the lips. The smile across his lips spread as they touched mine, sending a warm feeling through me.

"How are you feeling?" I asked lingering near his face as I stared into his big brown eyes with concern.

"Better with you 'round." He spoke softly tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.

"I meant the cold." I gently grabbed his hand that was still at the side of my head and smiled.

"Ah, it's alright, a lot better than before." He smiled staring into my eyes thoughtfully. We stared at each other for a moment before John came back bursting through the door.

"Alright, alright, up you come then!" He motioned for us to get up annoyedly making us both groan in aggravation.

We soon pulled up to Cynthia's house so that we could meet Maureen and Ringo at a coffee shop on Penny Lane as they had planned. George sat beside me in the backseat leaving the passenger seat vacant for Cynthia.

She came out from her home with a radiant smile and bounce to her step, absolutely glowing at the sight of John. John straightened himself up, fixing his mop top in the mirror hurriedly. It was a cute sight, they looked so happy to see each other.

When Cynthia hopped in she gave John a quick peck and looked back to me and George. John sighed that her focus wasn't necessarily on him and started to pull out of the driveway.

"It's been too long." Cyn looked giddily at me. I nodded in agreement. Before I got a chance to speak again she practically exploded with her words happily.

"How has the relationship been?" She smirked over at George. I turned my head smiling to see George was watching me in a daze with a soft smile taking over his features. When my eyes met his he looked at his lap with a blush in embarrassment.

"I'd say good. They slept together last night." John piped up quickly. I immediately shot him a glare through the rear view mirror.

"I speak but the truth." John said looking back through the rear view mirror as I noticed George had the same narrowed eyes as I had being unimpressed by John.

"Yeah, but it wasn't the way you're implying it." I scowled at satisfaction across his smug face. I looked back at Cynthia who was looking at John with knitted eyebrows in distaste.

Slowly Cyn turned back and faced the road. John, Cynthia and George soon struck up a conversation about the old bass guitar player Stu Sutcliffe and how they would see him again this trip to Hamburg.

"-Oh and you would love Stu's wife Astrid Poppy, she's so kind." Cynthia exclaimed joyfully.

"He's married?" I practically choked. From what I'd heard he sounded about the same age as John, only twenty two.

"Yeah, the poor bloke got tied down too soon." John sighed before Cynthia reached over and hit his arm. John's response was simply laughter, seeming completely unaffected by Cynthia's anger.

We pulled up in front of a cute little diner on Penny Lane that John said had the best hamburgers money could buy. Of course I wouldn't really know, my uncle never really liked eating out much, he made mostly healthy things at home, so even if the hamburger was terrible, I'd still probably prefer it over any healthy thing my uncle would make me try.

We all exited the car and got onto the sidewalk when John spoke up very suddenly and bluntly.

"Bloody Hell Macca!" He laughed uncontrollably making my head snap to the side where John was holding Cynthia with one arm and his stomach with the other from laughing so hard. I looked the other way to see George was staring off in the same direction with a smirk. I squinted over to where I spotted Paul looking over at us helplessly as he was pinned up to the wall by a girl with lipstick all over his face.

The girl moved back from Paul in embarrassment giving us all a better look at her short skirt and tight button up shirt. I think I'd seen her around school before walking around with the girls who were considered the easy and provocative group of girls that people warn you not to mingle with.

"Erm, John, George, Cyn, Poppy, what are you guys doing 'ere?" His spoke, his face heating up almost becoming the same shade of red as the lipstick on his face.

"What are we doing here? What are you doing here?" John laughed.

"Is this the mystery girl you won't shut up about?" George asked with a slight mindless cringe at the girl. The brunette girl smiled brightly at George's remark and turned to Paul excitedly.

"No!" He blurted. His eyes widened, his neck snapping back to face the girl, who was already raising her hand to slap him across the face. She stomped off in the other direction as Paul held his cheek in agony.

"Damn it." He whispered to himself looking up and shaking his head in thought.

"Well, now that she's gone, care to join us inside?" John smiled pointing to the door of the diner. He looked at John with a roll of his eyes, then looked over the four of us, his eyes watching me for a second longer than the rest.

"Alright." He sighed after a second. We all filed into the restaurant seeing Ringo and Maureen at a large round booth near the back.

"-and ever since my parents met yer' my brothers and sister won't leave me alone." George told me as we walked behind the other three. I giggled and looked at his overwhelmed expression. I squeezed his hand gently making him look down at me admiringly.

"Well I'd be glad to meet them anytime." I smiled. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek. I blushed profusely as we made it to the table.

"Poppy!" Ringo exploded happily after greeting the boys and Cynthia.

"Ritchie!" I smiled sitting down next to him. George sat on the other side of me happily, holding my hand in his as we sat.

"This is my girlfriend, Maureen." He stuck out his chest proudly in the presence of his girlfriend. She sent me a welcoming smile.

"It's so nice to meet you." I gushed to the girl Ritchie was so obviously head over heels for.

"It's nice to meet you too!" She smiled so sincerely and sweetly.

"What can I get you kids to drink?" The silver haired waitress asked with a notepad stuck out in front of her.

"A beer." Paul blurted with a sarcastic smile as he looked up at the women.

"It's noon hun." She looked down with a disgusted scowl. Paul looked at his watch.

"Oh, god it is. A beer please." He pursed his lips seriously as he looked up at the woman. She rolled her eyes and scribbled his request on the notepad. John was getting quite a kick out of this Paul, because he had a smile stretched across his entire face.

We ordered our drinks and sat there making conversation with a now seemingly normal Paul after the scene he'd had a moment ago. Of course, thanks to Johns big mouth, the conversation was short lived.

"So Macca, since that wasn't the girl you've been chatting on and on about, who is she?" He leaned over toward him intrigued. Paul's smile fell.

For a second, I could've sworn his eyes flicked over in my direction.

"No one." He shrugged.

"Well it's obviously not no one, you've been coming up with tons of new songs, all about someone." George pointed out blatantly.

"You don't know her." Paul stared at George blankly. George raised his hands to claim innocence making Ringo snicker.

"You never know, it's a small world." Ringo spoke encouragingly.

"You're telling me." Paul sighed irritatedly.
