His Butler, Capricious

The young master had you and Sebastian go into town with him. The Queen had another job for her faithful guard dog. To get you up to date, the young master explained what was going on and gave you news clippings with the articles on it while in the carriage. All were essentially saying the same thing. This "Jack the Ripper" had brutally murdered a few local prostitutes in the East End, they were all gruesome murders, mutilated in the same way. How they were mutilated was not mentioned.

"Do the prostitutes have any ties to each other besides their rather... unique occupation." He smirked, "It seems you ask the relevant questions from the start. I knew I was right in choosing you to assist me." You smiled at the young lord as he sat across from you, the carriage jolted as it came to a stop. Sebastian opened the door and you let the young master go out first, Sebastian extended his hand towards you with his closed eye smile, you swatted away his hand and hopped out the carriage. "That's not very lady like you know." You went to open the door for the master. "Well then it's rather fortunate I'm not considered a lady by society." Opening the door you held it for both of them to walk through. Going into the drawing-room, the three of you came upon a rather odd sight. Madame Red, Grell, and Mr. Lau completely trashed the room, apparently, they were looking for tea.

"Madame Red?! Lau?! What are you doing here?"

They just noticed that you three entered the room. "Oh, Ciel darling you're here early won't be another couple of days before the nobility come to the city."

"If you're here my lord that can only mean one thing."

"The Queen's guard dog has a new scent to follow."

The young master was unamused, "Sebastian it appears we have guests, go prepare some snacks, we'll be in the parlour instead."

Sebastian bowed, "Certainly, my lord." He turned to you, "Clean this up and help me serve the tea, don't stay too long with your head in the books," he affectionately grazed your cheek which heated up immediately, winking he left. That reminded you that you had brought the book concerning demons, it intrigued you so much.

~

"Are you sure you'll be brave enough to stomach the crime scene?" you walked in while they were discussing the case.

"What do you mean?" the young lord turned to Mr. Lau.

"The sight of the dismembered body is gruesome, and one can only imagine the stench. Are you prepared for that little lord?" He scoffed at the question, "I am the head of the Phantomhive family, don't ask foolish questions. Now, I assume you're going to follow me whether I ask or not, so let's go."

You blinked at Mr. Lau, "The papers didn't say anything about the bodies being dismembered, do you know something?" He merely laughed and shrugged his shoulders. "One hears many things in the underworld, whether or not it's true is of no concern to me, I've never seen the bodies."

~

There was a large crowd of people around the crime scene, honestly, how could Scotland Yard let so many people near. "I'm afraid this is no place for a boy, why don't you run along home," a young handsome brunette inspector waved off the young master with this statement.

"Abberline!" Sir Randall approached all of you looking rather annoyed that you were there. "Ah, what do you want Phantomhive, out with it," he gnashed his teeth baring his anger out for everyone to see. He lifted up the letter to show the royal coat of arms on the seal, "Your investigation was straggling a bit so I was sent in," he grabbed the papers out of Inspector Abberline's hand, skimmed it and handed it to Sebastian to read. "Shall we be off?" Madame Red, Mr. Lau, Sebastian, you, and Grell walked away from the angry man and his confused subordinate who had his papers returned.

"So where to now darling?"

The young master sighed, "To someone who can be of use."

Mr. Lau gasped as if the young lord said something embarrassing, "My Lord! Surely not..."

~

You giggled, it was great to be able to see your friend again.

"The Undertaker?"

"So... who is this?" Mr. Lau... forever leading everyone on. You didn't know why any of you paid attention to when he indicates he may know something. Good grief if you weren't such a lowly servant you'd slap him.

You sat on your special coffin; it was about the young masters' size, perfect to stretch your legs and enjoy your tea. While everyone was getting settled in trying to adjust to what was creepy to them, you looked for the Undertaker.

"Undertaker, are you about?" the young Lord shouted to the air.

An eerie laugh rang through it the parlour, "Heehee well then, hello there my Lord tell me... Do I finally have the pleasure it's fitting you for one of me coffins today?" He stepped out of the coffin in the corner with his eyes gleaming in the dark scaring Grell so much he ended up on the floor mouth wide in shock.

"No that isn't why I'm here I nee-" the Undertaker put his finger to the earl's lips to silence him and turned to face you a mischievous grin on his face. "Dearie it looks like you've gotten mixed up with the little earl here I warned you not to, he and that butler of his aren't ever in any safe situations."

"Ohhh I see my Lord this is nothing but a cover-up. How much is it for information?" Mr. Lau asked the Undertaker. Grabbing him Undertaker grinned in delight, "I want nothing to do with the Queen's measly coins," glancing at the young Lord he suddenly grabbed him as well. "You know what it is I need, give it to me and all me information is yours. Give me the simple pleasure of a joke!"

After Madame Red and Mr. Lau's pathetic attempts at trying to make Undertaker laugh he turned to you but you shook your head. "It seems like you're the only one left my lord." Sebastian stepped forward, "I'll handle this, I need you all to wait outside, and don't attempt to hear this no matter what." Everyone headed outside while you remained seated on the coffin. "You too Y/n." He grabbed your arm and dragged you outside, a mere thirty seconds later the Undertaker's laugh was so chaotic it made his sign fall down. Sebastian opened the door revealing an exhausted Undertaker clinging on to one of his coffins, drool from having his mouth open so long started to trickle down his chin. "Oh wow, I've now seen the face of ultimate bliss. Who knew the butler had that up his sleeve."

Settling back in the Undertaker got himself together enough to talk normally. "Well you see, there is a pattern. I often get customers who are incomplete. The uterus is missing which is quite odd. The killer makes a big mess of the body, but that particular part is always precisely excised."

"He did it on a road that was public though, not high traffic. Wouldn't an amateur have difficulty performing that quickly?" Sebastian inquired.

"A doctor then?" You furrowed your eyebrows.

"You think quickly Y/n, you too butler. I thought so too. First, he slits their throat then he rips out that little organ. Sadistic killers like this one don't stop until someone stops them. Will you sniff him out like the good dog you are?"

The young master scoffed at the question, "I am bound by my family and service to the Queen, I eliminate anyone she asks me to, without failure."

~

In the carriage on the way home, you all discussed the case. "First, we look at people with the necessary skill set crossing out anyone with an alibi. Removal of the organs suggests some sort of gruesome ritual."

"Not necessarily, some killers take things from their victims as trophies. Look for people who are obsessive or someone who likes to brag and show off." You should know, not being a serial killer but by being a killer yourself, it's easy to look into the mind of someone of that nature.

Scoffing, Madame Red retorted, "As if that narrows the suspects, why even I would have the medical skills for this. Besides which the season is ending soon, everyone will have to go back their separate ways."

"Then we'll have to conclude the investigation soon," arrogantly smiling, Sebastian asked the young Lord to be excused to start making a suspect list. Opening the door, the young master waved him off, and he jumped... out of a moving carriage...

~

Opening the door for them to enter the townhouse, you saw Sebastian standing there. "I-"

He bowed taking the young masters hat, "Welcome home your tea is waiting for you in the drawing-room."

"How are you here?!!"

"Well after making the suspect list I came home to edify you my lady. "

"Sebastian I admit you do your job well. But how do you manage to jump out of a moving carriage and then go all over London to collect information about a night that someone surely would have to jog their memory a bit to remember exactly what happened. That's impossible what are you?" You scoffed at the showoff. It wasn't humanly possible.

He smiled, "Surely you know by now," you waited for the iconic line he loves to say whenever he gets the opportunity but all you received is an innocent stare, knowing Sebastian, it was far from innocent.

"Come on you aren't some sort of Secret Military Intelligence officer?" Madame Red broke the awkward silence.

"No my lady, I'm simply one hell of a butler." There it goes.

Madame Red whispered to Grell, "I'm sure those two are together, those knowing stares. Don't you agree?" Mr. Lau settled himself in between them, "Rightttt, the head maid running off with the head butler, how scandalous." They concocted other nonsense theories about you and Sebastian that made you blush furiously.

Sebastian walked close by you while you two escorted the chattering lot to the drawing-room. He leaned in and whispered softly in your ear, "We could run away you know." You scoffed and laughed at the idea desperately trying to hide your blushing face from the observant guests and butler.

~

"I have narrowed it down to one possible suspect."

It was time to attend your first ball.
