Meet the parents part 1
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I couldn't be happier. I want to visit my parents. I miss them so much. That is until i received a call an hour ago.
"Bonjour, Elsa. Comment vas tu? Ça fait longtemps. (Good morning, Elsa. How are you? It's been a while)" My mom is actually talking to me. Hmm. She wouldn't call me if there's nothing important to talk about. Also, my mom and her formality. I wonder why she can't just say ça va or something. I mean she's not talking to a president right.
"Salut! Maman. Bien et vous deux? Et Qu-est que c'est? (Hey mom. Good and you two? And What is it?)" I ask her. I'm so excited. I really miss her voice. Not to mention her cook. Yum. I can't wait for thanksgiving. As French, she doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving but since she married dad the two cultures are mixed perfectly together.
"Nous allons bien. J'ai une mauvaise nouvelle. (We're fine. I have bad news.)" Oh great. I hope grandma's not die. Last time she said those sentence, her dad passed away.
"Dis-moi. (Tell me.)" I tap my fingers on my desk.
"We cannot celebrate Thanksgiving together. Your dad and I, we're going to Venice to have our second honeymoon. We're so sorry dear." She really feels bad for me. I can hear it in her voice. I sigh. At least grandma's alive.
"Whose idea is that? Mom, you can't do that to me. I've been planning our holidays and activities we'll do together. I miss you guys. I also want to introduce my girlfriend. Can't i just come along?" I sniffle.
"It's your dad and we miss you too, honey. We'll spend Christmas and New Year together. I promise you. Wait did you say girlfriend. Oh my God, you have a girlfriend, finally." I roll my eyes. I'mm glad she's on the other line otherwise she would glare at me.
"It's sad that we can't meet her. Send her pictures to us. And why i just know this by now? By the way, you can't come with us. There's no honeymoon if there are kids around us." She chuckles at her last statement.
I came out when i was fifteen. Their reactions were comical. My dad spit out his beer while mom drop a bowl full of spaghetti. What a waste. It seemed like the time was frozen. No one move. No one talk. It was my father who broke the silence. He motioned us to the living room. Soon we had a family meeting. They interrogated me first, asked if it was just a phase or was I just experimenting. I said firmly that it wasn't. They understood and hug me tightly. Giving me a warm hug and soothing words. I didn't realize that I was indeed crying. They accept me truly and never ashamed of me. How I love my parents.
"We're just get official about two weeks. She's so beautiful, mom. I'll send you her pictures. Oh and please, use protection. As much as i want little brother or sister, i don't need additional member in our family. Not when i'm old enough to be his/her aunt." I say sternly. Actually, my parents always asked me about having another child. But I told them not to. Deep inside, i am a selfish person.
"We will. Don't you worry. Tell her my greetings. I have to go. We truly are sorry. Au revoir."
"Au revoir maman." I say sadly. I put my hands on my face and place it on my desk.
I stay on that position until I startled by the intercom.
"Miss Johnson, your girlfriend is here." Evelyn speaks.
"Send her in, please.
"Sure."
I feel a tap on my shoulder. I tilt my head to see who it is. It's Anna. I don't know when she's in, didn't hear the door creak open. She usually informs me first, although that doesn't really necessary since she's my girl. Well, it is. I don't want her interrupting my meetings.
"Baby, you're crying. What happens?" She wipes my tears away with her delicate hands. I smile at her and hug her. She seems shocked at my sudden movement but return the hug.
"I won't spend Thanksgiving. My parents are having their second honeymoon. My plans are ruined. I miss them." I say whispering in her ears. She pats my back.
"Second honeymoon?" She asks in disbelief.
"Baby, you sure that's the only thing you heard." I sob again.
"I'm sorry. It's just the idea... oh forget it. You can spend it with my family." She breaks the hug and smiles warmly at me. I still sobbing a little.
"What do you think?"
"Well, it's family time and i'm not your fam-" She puts her index finger on my lips to shut me.
"We can manage it. My parents are nice. They will like you. And I don't take a no as an answer." she says sternly.
"Thank you very much. I appreciate it." I hug her again. My frown is replaced by a smile. A cheeky smile. She considers me as her family.
"When will we visit them?"
"In three days. I still have some work to do. It's almost 12, how about we orders Pizza? I don't feel like going out. It's too hot out there." She's fanning herself. What a drama queen. Wait. What a drama princess.
"I want Chinese." I pout and give her my best puppy look. They never fail me and I'm sure this time any different.
"It's a no." She says deadpanned.
"But but... Oh well i can eat by myself." I swipe away my fake tears and about to get up when.
"Alright. Chinese it is. "
"Woohoo"
"Just because you're a baby." She smirks.
"I am your baby though." I lean in and give her a light kiss on her lips. She blushes. Oh how fast the situation turns around.
