Rachel
Rachel waited patiently to hear from her cousin Noah if someone had picked up her gold star notebook from his music store. As she waited for days and days to hear back from Puck, she thought she would keep herself busy and keep her distracted from the thought of a stranger having her notebook and keep her distracted from looking at her phone and pacing all the time just waiting for the phone ping. She was panicking on the inside and she didn't want anyone especially Nick and Jeff to know how afraid she is. Rachel got dressed for the day and went to a Christmas farm to purchase and bring one home to put up to prepare and be ready for Christmas. As she walked out of the door, she kept looking at her phone and messaging Puck every 20 minutes about whether someone picked up her notebook or not.
When Rachel saw the message from Puck stating that no one had picked it up she knew listening to her brother and his boyfriend was a mistake, that no one wanted her, that she would be alone forever and alone on Christmas forever which she didn't want at all. She didn't want to be alone not when everyone around her has someone for Christmas. She walked into the Christmas Tree farm and picked out a tree and then carried it home after paying for it. She wished and wished for a Christmas miracle that someone a boy would pick up her notebook, and do all the challenges, she just didn't want to be alone, especially on Christmas with everyone in her family having someone.
She walked through the door struggling to get the tree through, and when she finally got it through she walked over to the stand to put it up and placed all the necessary decorations on it while also checking her phone for Puck but with no luck there was no messages. Rachel wanted to keep busy instead of looking at her phone the whole time. She placed her phone on the table, walked to the kitchen and started baking Christmas shortbread cookies. As soon as she placed them in the oven and closed the oven door, she heard her phone ping from the table. She took her oven mitts off and rushed to the table. She smiled when she saw that Puck had texted her with good news.
You have someone.
Rachel was excited and happy that she started to dance happily about how someone was interested in her. Well her notebook. Her in her notebook. She just hoped that it wasn't a teenage girl pretending to be a boy. Rachel stopped dancing and began to worry and overthink all the possibilities and worse case scenarios or even worse that they wanted to meet her. She was scared and didn't know what to do. She was pulled from her thoughts when the oven timer went off indicating that her cookies were done. She took them out and let them cool on the table while she texted Puck that she would be there at the music store. She picked up her bag and left for the music store.
As Rachel was walking to the music store she was starting to worry more and more about who the mystery person and started to wonder whether or not she was doing the right thing and started debating about backing out of the idea she was starting to think was stupid, but she knew it was no use not when she had texted Puck about going down to the store, and the fact that someone had actually written in her notebook. Rachel took a deep breath as she walked inside. She walked up to Puck and said
"Noah, you said someone has an interest." Puck handed Rachel her notebook and Rachel then started asking question after question
"Was he nice?"
"Cute?"
"You sure he was a teenage boy?"
"How would you describe him?" Puck just looked at her as he placed CD's on a shelf and said
"Snarly." Rachel was confused and said
"Snarly?" Puck continued
"And also, annoyingly pedantic." Puck turned to look at her and said
"He committed to the Wham! Song though." Rachel was surprised and said
"Did he leave a message or anything?" He sighed and said
"Just read it, he left instructions." Rachel was confused when Puck had left her in the classical music aisle of the store. She walked out the store contemplating about reading what he wrote on her walk home or if she should wait until she got home. Rachel looked at the notebook in her hand and she knew that she couldn't wait until she got home. Rachel slowly opened up the notebook and read
Do I dare?
Not for just anyone, and apparently Broadway I dare for you
I admire your words
I question your choice of music with Wham!
I salute your love of musicals
I'm not sure how I feel about your off standish bent towards a public spectacle,
But I have something to confess, you intrigue me and you challenge me,
I suspect that you're bubbly, happy girl with kindred spirit, so you'll understand
Rachel stopped walking when she read it, and then ran home and walked into her brother's room without knocking and said
"He hates Christmas." Nick quickly covered him and Jeff with blankets and said
"Rachel! Get out." Jeff realising what she said, lifted his head and said
"Oh my god, someone is interested?" Jeff then sat up intrigued and said
"What did he say?" Rachel opened up the notebook and read out loud to them
It's the most detestable time of the year.
The forced cheer, the frenzied crowds.
Nick was confused and said
"He got you wrong." Rachel was upset with them and said
"It's because of you. You wrote all those clues. You made me sound misjudged, snarky and cool." Jeff softly smiled at Rachel and said
"Well I think you're cool Rachie." Rachel was flattered and frantic at the same time and said
"Thanks, Jeffy, and what's worse he has left his own clues, and he wants me to follow them." Nick was pleased that it could make Rachel leave his room and said
"Great, now go and then tell us how it goes. " Rachel was offended and said
"What no, I'm doing it, he and I have nothing in common." Nick looked at Rachel encouragingly and said
"Rach, I love you but I would never make you do anything that you didn't want to do or makes you uncomfortable." Rachel was expecting a but, but it never came and she said
"But?" Nick shrugged his shoulders and said
"But what? You put the book back on the shelf and just try again and not stop until you find the right suitor who has all the same likes and interests as you." Rachel disapproved of Nick's choice of words and said
"I thought you were going to say I should give him a second chance." Nick shooed Rachel away and said
"That's not how love works you either feel it or you don't and it's clear that you don't." Rachel was quiet and silently walked out of Nick's room closing the door not knowing what to do and not knowing if she should follow his clues and instructions.
