epilogue
"jaehyun give me back my hair straightener!"
jaehyun opened the door to the bathroom, jamie storming in and taking the hot iron off the counter.
"why are you curling your hair with your straightener?" jaehyun questioned, adjusting his tie.
"i broke my curling iron, okay?" jamie groaned, "leave me alone!"
"yeah jaehyun," jaehyun's girlfriend, victoria, teased, leaning against the bathroom doorframe, already ready, "leave our little graduate alone."
"stop reminding me!" johnny depressed voice yelled as he walked down the hallway, "i don't want to see my baby grow up!"
johnny's girlfriend, yura, laughed, "vic, we should help jamie instead of making fun of our boyfriends."
victoria sighed, "i guess we should."
the girls shooed jaehyun out of the bathroom and went to helping jamie with her hair and makeup.
"you look so pretty," yura gushed, hugging the girl with a bright smile, "don't be nervous, okay?"
jamie nodded, "i will not!"
johnny nearly burst into tears when he saw jamie, her cap and gown in hand, yura running to stop him.
"let's go!" jamie hurried the group, "we're going to be late!"
"wait! we're forgetting lucas," jaehyun stopped before yelling for the male.
lucas came running out of his room, still buttoning his shirt, "i'm ready! i'm ready!"
the group continued and made their way to seoul school of performing arts.
"i'll go with jamie, you guys get seats," yura shooed the others away.
the older helped jamie out her cap on and helped straighten her gown.
"you got this, okay?" yura whispered, smiling at jamie, "we're proud of you."
jamie smiled back and hugged yura, "i love you."
yura hugged her back just as tight, "i love you too, now go get 'em kid!"
jamie walked over to the group of students all in caps and gowns and spotted jisung and chenle, arguing over something.
jamie hopped over and threw her arms around the two of them, "happy graduation day!"
jisung's eyes were already slightly red as he turned to her, "stop reminding me."
chenle giggled, "jisung is scared of the future!"
jisung quickly put his hand up over chenle's mouth, "shut up."
chenle promptly licked jisung's hand, making the younger recoil in disgust and wipe his hand on chenle's gown.
"guys, can you like stop?" jamie groaned, "it's our graduation day! can't we be happy and yet depressed like everyone else? not fighting?"
the two boys pouted, but complied.
"i can't believe the whole dream group is coming," jisung muttered, cringing from embarrassment, "donghyuck is definitely going to yell like some sort of weird parent."
jamie shivered from the thought and chenle just laughed.
"jamie, your ex and your boyfriend, in the same group, together, how do you feel?" chenle asked jamie.
jamie deadpanned, "how many times have we gone over this? mark has no ill will towards jaemin and jaemin doesn't care if mark is my ex."
"player," jisung coughed and jamie shoved him.
"shut up jisung! no one likes you," she stuck her tongue out.
"hypocrite," jisung stuck his tongue out back at her.
"guys, we have to go!" chenle pouted, "see you later!"
the three all got into their spots melancholy.
the ceremony was long and boring, jisung being right about donghyuck screaming at the top of his lungs to embarrass the three younger ones.
lucas was the first to make his way to jamie, picking her up and hugging her, "i'm so proud of you!"
"lucas!" jamie whined, "put me down! put me down!"
lucas eventually listening, teasing her.
jaehyun and victoria were next, jaehyun giving her a big bear hug.
"squirt, congratulations," he said, and she could tell he was crying, making her cry as well, "you're going to do great things, i know you will."
"jaehyun, stop making me cry," her voice cracked, "i love you."
"i love you too," he smiled his dimple smile, holding her at arms length, "don't disappoint me daughter."
jamie laughed, "i wouldn't dream of it father."
johnny was red by the time he had made its way to jamie and the group forming around her, tears streaming from his eyes and yura also crying.
"my parents," jamie's voice cracked and she hugged the two of them tightly, "don't cry! why is everyone crying?"
"because you're so old now," johnny cried, "i remember when i saw you in the courtroom when they decided we got custody over you, hell i remember when you were born, and now you're all grown up."
"stop being such a jerk john seo," jamie scolded, "my heart can't take your reminiscing."
johnny laughed and let go of her, jamie pretending to finally be able to breathe and took in a deep breath.
"congratulations jamie," yura smiled at her softly, "we may've only known each other for a year now, but you really are my daughter and i love you."
"i love you too mom," jamie teased, hugging her.
jamie looked at them all, talking and reminiscing, jaehyun, victoria, johnny, yura, and lucas. a sob left her lips, it was her family, her two sets of parents and her older brother, they were her family and she loved them, and this closed a chapter with them.
then, jamie met jaemin's eyes and he pushed through to get to her.
she excitedly went over and flung herself into his arms, burying her face in his chest.
"i knew you were crying," jaemin muttered in her ear, holding her tight, "i just knew you would break, no matter what you told me."
"stop calling me out on my lies jae," jamie whined, "i don't want to hear you voice, i just want your comfort."
jaemin laughed and placed a kiss on the top of her head, "congratulations jamie seo, welcome to the adult world."
"that sounds so wrong," jamie's comment made jaemin laugh again.
the rest of the dreamies came and their squad was built again, everyone catching up on what they had missed since their last meeting during spring break.
jaemin jealously kept his hand in jamie's, leaving her close to him as she talked to mark, catching up.
mark had also gotten a new girlfriend, someone who jamie had started to get close with because they were the only two girls in their group.
the night drew to a close too quickly after all going to chenle's house for a big family celebration with all of his family, jisung's uncle, and jamie's "family."
the dreamies all laid in a circle outside, staring up at the stars.
"look! it's the big dipper," chenle excitedly pointed at the sky.
"that's the little dipper chenle," jisung corrected, moving his finger, "that's the big dipper."
the group laughed and ended up silent again.
a silent understanding lingered in the air of just wanting to be together, with words or not.
"it's been a while since we were all together," jamie commented, "so i expect you guys to be raiding my fridge in two days when i wake up."
"who says we'll last two days," donghyuck teased.
"speak for yourself," renjun scoffed, "i need at least a week before subjecting myself to this madness again."
"we'll probably be there tomorrow," jeno giggled.
"good," jamie smiled, leaning her head against jaemin's shoulder, feeling his grip on her hand tighten, "i need as much dreamie time as i can before we all leave again."
the boys all hummed in agreement.
"guys, doesn't that constellation kind of look like a watermelon?" mark asked, making everyone groan, smiles on their faces nonetheless.
eventually, they all had to get up.
the stood in a circle, smiling brightly as they all put their hands in, mark's on the bottom and jamie's on top.
"yo dream!" he yelled.
"let's show them how awesome we are!"
