"my wallet is crying."
jamie scoffed, taking the ice cream out of jaehyun's hand and grabbing the spoon in his other.
the male sat down next to her and took the remote, scrolling through channels.
"this is too happy," jamie mumbled, "i want sad."
jaehyun sighed, "but you need to feel better."
"put on one more happy, romance show and i might kill you with this spoon," jamie threatened, holding up the spoon.
jaehyun raised his hands in defeat and jamie went back to eating her ice cream.
it had been a couple days since donghyuck and jamie saved chenle and encountered mark and chaeyoung and a couple days since jamie started avoiding mark.
it might've been petty, but it really hurt her when he couldn't think of any reason as to why he became her boyfriend instead of one of the others he was set up with.
so, she had resorted to old habits of eating ice cream and seeking jaehyun's comfort.
it was already summer break for the college kids, so lucas went to visit his family in china, johnny, newly graduated from graduate school, had found a more stable nine-to-five job as an intern for a professional photographer and had finally started his youtube career, something jaehyun and jamie had been pushing him to do for years, and jaehyun was trying to relax with what summer he had before he became a teaching assistant for summer school at sopa.
jaehyun opened his mouth and jamie put a spoonful of her ice cream in, the two's eyes focused on the tv.
"can we build a fort?" jamie asked softly.
jaehyun looked at her in shock and then smiled brightly, his eyes practically closing, "of course! i wanted to ask, but i was kind of afraid."
the initial awkwardness of not being together as often as they used to be was thrown out of the window as the two excitedly jumped up and collected blankets, sheets, and pillows, turning their living room into a huge fort.
the tv was discarded as they excitedly sang to music jamie had put on through their alexa, dancing around with jun xue, and having a good time.
nostalgia filled them of not too long ago where they were each the other's life support, where days like this of fake happiness turned real were often.
jamie and jaehyun thrived when together and their fort had been finished and they were two movies deep into their usual sappy american romance movie marathons, when there was a knock on the door.
jamie got up and looked through the peephole before opening the door.
jisung stood there, dark bags under his eyes. he looked awful, he was so skinny, unhealthily skinny, and was drowning in his sweater, a cut on his cheek.
there were tears in his eyes as he stood there, "i'm sorry, i didn't know where else to go-"
jamie cut him off, "no, it's fine! come on in. what's up?"
jisung awkwardly walked into the room, glancing at jaehyun who was sitting on the couch with jun xue, scrolling on his phone.
"do you, uh, want to go to my room...?" jamie asked and jisung nodded.
the two walked to her room in silence and jisung awkwardly stood around.
"what's up?" jamie asked softly.
"i didn't know where else to go... chenle is out of the country and i'm not close with anyone else in the group," jisung stumbled over his words.
jamie pulled her lips into a deep frown, patting the bed next to her, "come sit. do you want to talk about it?"
that's all it took for jisung to break down, sobs left his lips as he covered his face in shame. jamie jumped up and pulled him into a hug, comforting him the best she could.
"i can't take it anymore," jisung cried, stuttering over his words, "so i snapped at my sister and we got into a huge fight, she kicked me out of the house and told me she might as well kill herself. i tried to get back into the house but she wouldn't let me in. jamie what do i do?"
jamie's heart ached, "can... can i tell jaehyun? he'll be able to help..."
jisung looked at her, eye to eye. he seemed to be searching for something, and then he nodded.
jamie nodded slowly, "do you want to stay here or come?"
jisung holding onto her hand was the answer she needed.
jamie walked into the living room, jaehyun looking up and becoming alarmed from jisung's quiet sobs.
jamie recited what jisung had said and jaehyun's face dropped.
"let's go, i still have a key," jaehyun said.
the group of three went to jisung's apartment, jamie calling 119 and telling them about the threat.
the three got there first, waiting outside for the police to come.
when they got there, jaehyun opened the door.
jisung was hiding behind jamie as they walked in.
jaehyun gaged and covered his eyes when they got into the living room, jisung going to look, but jamie forcing his head on her shoulder.
the scene was disgusting, blood was all over the floor and jisung's sister was on the ground, a bullet hole in her forehead and her eyes wide open.
jamie took a deep breath and gave jisung to jaehyun, making the two leave.
jamie had no connection to the girl other than the two and she could tell they were devastated, so she took over.
johnny's friend yuta was there as one of the police officers and he helped her through the process of everything.
jisung's lips quivered when he saw her, his eyes red and full of tears. she had been standing next to her for ten minutes, and he only lifted his head to watch the white bag on a stretcher go by. he finally looked at her and jamie sighed, taking his hand and rubbing circles on it.
"what do i do now?" jisung's voice was raw and him taking hurt jamie, "i have no where to go."
"stay with us until chenle gets back," jamie offered, taking his other hand, "you can take my room and johnny and i will share. maybe you'll be adopted by the zhongs, maybe you'll end up with another family member."
jisung let out a cry, "i don't want a new family."
jamie's heart broke and she pulled him in a hug, "don't worry, we'll work this out... promise. we love you jisung and everything will be okay, stay strong."
