soft music was the only thing centering jamie at that moment. people were all around, in and out of the cafe, making her barely able to hear one of her favorite songs, spring love by eric nam and wendy from red velvet.
jaehyun claimed his spring playlist playing through the speakers was to raise moral and remind everyone his favorite season was coming up soon.
the date was february 13, a day before said male's birthday.
the unspoken wish he wanted for his birthday was lucas to come home, they all knew that.
however, it wasn't looking possible. it had been two weeks since lucas almost died for the second time in months.
the boys had been tip-toeing around the three js who were suffering the loss yet again of their mood maker.
the doctors said he should be healed and home by the end of the month, but his mental state had been so fragile, so much as a negatively connotative word freaked him out to the point of sedation at times.
lee jeno was still mia. he went to school, but avoided the boys and jamie like the plague, same with mark. this left jaemin, donghyuck, and jamie to meet up often at their favorite frozen yogurt place and to eat their feelings. the owners were pleased with the business, but also concerned with the deprecating stock, so it wasn't long before the three were kicked out.
their new spot was the starbucks where jaehyun and jamie worked.
donghyuck and jamie stared at jaemin in repulsion as he straight up drank a shot of espresso, jaehyun watching along with a grin on his face.
jaehyun had dared jaemin that he couldn't drink espresso straight up without the cup of milk normally in his drink. jaemin, not being one to pass up a challenge, accepted and there they were.
jaemin didn't react after he finished, just sitting there with his shit-eating grin, pride radiating off of him.
jaehyun waited for a minute, expecting the boy to cough or to at least recoil slightly, but never got a reaction, so he left to make a free drink for the boy.
"what's the plan for tomorrow?" jaemin asked, leaning back in his chair.
"tomorrow?" donghyuck repeated, "valentine's day? my yearly schedule! let me pull it out."
jamie and jaemin watched in amusement as donghyuck opened his phone and went to his calendar.
"'tis a friday this year, so i have to get up at normal time, but i have ten minutes that i normally play games in for crying. after school i usually go to the local bookstore, buy any kpop album i desire at the time, and then go home. i end up looking through the albums and, by seven, i eat the godawful heart shaped foods my mom prepares for me before her and my dad go out for their 'romantic' evening that they don't return until midnight from most years. then i cry while watching romantic movies and sleep."
the two js burst out clapping enthusiastically, making donghyuck bow.
"can we join your plan this year please?" jamie asked, laughing lightly.
"jamie! jaehyun's birthday," jaemin gasped, "don't forget him!"
jamie's mouth opened in realization, "oh."
"it's jaehyun's birthday tomorrow?" donghyuck asked, the other two nodding in approval.
"i'm sure jaehyun would love to join our plans, he's only turning twenty four, nothing exciting," jamie waved her hand, taking a piece of the muffin in front of her.
the two boys stared at her in disbelief as jaehyun came over and gave jaemin his drink reluctantly.
"jaehyun, what do you want for your birthday?" jaemin asked, stopping said boy.
"me? isn't it kind of late to ask?" jaehyun teased, "just kidding, i need some new earbuds because lucas and jamie broke mine."
"no, like, what do you want to do?" jamie asked.
jaehyun stood in thought for a minute, "sleep. i've had a lot of work recently and haven't been able to sleep as much."
jamie threw her hands up in an "i-told-you-so" manner, donghyuck and jaemin sighing.
jaehyun glanced at them, confused, before his coworker called him to come back.
"wait, isn't jisung's dance competition tomorrow?" donghyuck asked, before groaning and banging his head against the table, "my plans!"
jamie and jaemin both groaned as well.
"wait, i'm not invited," jamie perked up, "haha!"
"you're still coming," jaemin said sternly, "this is a funky town meeting, so we need all of funky town."
the sound of the group chat's made her heart race, her mind immediately going to renjun.
"jamie's making that face again," donghyuck groaned, using his hand to cover her face, "shut up."
a gasp left her lips, jaemin choking on his drink as laughs tried to escape him.
"what face?" jamie asked, "i'm not making any face, i don't know what you're talking about."
"oh renjun oppa is going to be there! i love renjun oppa! how do i look? is my hair a mess? is there anything in my teeth? oh my god he's co-"
jamie's hand smacked against the back of donghyuck's head, making his head go forward, dramatically, and hit the table.
he groaned and covered his forehead, pretending like he was seriously wounded, jaemin crying from laughter.
"i fucking hate you," jamie sneered at donghyuck, "but you're a good actor! jeno dropped out of the play we're doing for our theatre company, because he's a little bitch, so you should take his place! please! i beg of you, i hate the person who took his place."
"hate is a strong word," jaemin sung, "besides, this is donghyuck. he can't act to save his life."
jamie glared at him, shutting the male up.
"i accept your challenge," donghyuck announced, standing up quickly, hitting the table with his hands loudly, and accidentally making the chair he was sitting on fall over, "i shall join jamie's theatre company and be the best damn..."
"wolfgang von colt!" jamie cheered.
"i'm sorry, what now?" donghyuck stopped and stared at jamie in confusion, trying to ignore jaemin's loud laughter.
"oh, drew boley!" jamie laughed.
"wait, what play are you even doing?" donghyuck asked.
"rock of ages," jamie proudly said, "you'll be a great wolfgang!"
donghyuck stared at jamie in betrayal as jaehyun walked over the group in anger.
"my boss just told me to kick you guys out for disturbing the other costumers," jaehyun sighed in annoyance, "goodbye."
the group of three laughed as they collected their stuff and walked out.
"this can't be that bad, right?" donghyuck wondered aloud.
"no! it's fun!" jamie cheered, "come with me to practice tonight!"
"can i come too?" jaemin asked, trying to stop the grin on his lips.
"yes! you should join too jae!" jamie cheered, pulling on his arm.
"yeah... i just want to watch donghyuck embarrass himself," jaemin snickered, donghyuck hitting him.
"you'll see! i'll be great!"
"i regret so much."
jaemin snickered at donghyuck as he laid face down on the floor.
"i was so excited but what the fuck is this? why am i wearing a wig? why do i sing screamo?"
"that's rude," jamie scoffed, sitting next to him.
"i think donghyuck is doing great," jaemin said, leaning back in his chair, front row, of course.
"jaemin, you should join too, seriously!" jamie tried to persuade.
"can he be the mayor with the stick up his ass?" donghyuck asked.
jamie shook her head, "we already have someone for that role. i know!"
"nice hair, blond really suits you."
"shut the fuck up."
jamie was rolling on the ground, laughing at the two males in front of her.
both were clad in "rocker" attire, donghyuck with a shoulder length, curly haired, black wig as drew and jaemin in a shoulder length blond wavy wig as stacee jaxx.
"you are evil woman," jaemin sneered at jamie, "you planned this!"
"maybe," jamie shrugged, "but you guys look so good! it'll be great, trust me!"
the two boys huffed in annoyance before going to the director, asking what to do.
jamie beamed, going over as well, happy her plan worked.
