"it's time boys."
jaemin let out a laugh, looking at jamie who was standing at the front door proudly, next to johnny and lucas, all of them wearing matching outfits.
jaehyun had pretty much been living at lizzy's house since his fight with jamie, so he wasn't there, even if he was a host.
the three hosts that were there all wore matching ugly christmas sweaters that said "rolling with ma snowmies," the two boys wearing black jeans and jamie wearing a black skirt. jaemin was wearing his own ugly christmas sweater too that said "jingle my bells," a button up underneath with the collar over the top and khaki pants on.
their theme was ugly christmas sweaters and christmas music was already playing.
as soon as it hit 7:30, the doorbell started ringing.
chenle was the first one there, renjun and yena behind him. yena and renjun both didn't have ugly christmas sweaters on, but chenle had one that said "happy holla days," a fake gold chain hanging from his neck.
"this isn't acceptable," jaemin scoffed at the lack of christmas sweaters on the two, "good thing jamie and i made extra."
jamie grinned, nodding, "oh yes, we knew this would happen."
the two got matching sweaters as a punishment, both having half of a reindeer, christmas trees and lights coming from each end.
the two were not happy to say the least, but jamie and jaemin were thrilled.
after them, johnny's friends came in a big clump. yuta and sicheng who were matching with "oh snap" on them and gingerbread men whose heads were broken off, the latter ecstatic to see jamie after so long, jungwoo who wore the onesie from a christmas story, taeil who's said "yeti to party" with the yeti on it, dongyoung's which was grumpy cat's head on a snowman that said "no no no," and kun's which was grandma got run over by a reindeer themed.
taeyong, mark, and taeyong's girlfriend came after, mark staying next to jamie while they waited for the rest of their group to come. taeyong and his girlfriend both had on "gangsta wrapper" sweaters on.
"nice sweater," jamie laughed at mark's, "national lampoon is definitely my favorite christmas movie."
mark's sweater had the outline of the cat from national lampoon's christmas vacation on it, christmas lights under it.
mark laughed, "thanks, it's mine too."
"i wanted to wear something like that but johnny and lucas insisted on matching," jamie pouted, making mark pat her head in condolence.
next came donghyuck, wearing a "we gonna party like it's my birthday" sweater with jesus on it, and jeno who was wearing a sweater with cat heads on it, santa hats on each of them.
the groups all mingled with each other, johnny insisting they were missing people and couldn't start games until they came.
the doorbell rang and jamie went and got it, screaming excitedly and jumping into the arms of the unsuspecting person standing there.
"ten! oh my god!" jamie cried, hugging him tight, "i missed you so much!"
ten's hair was newly red and it matched his red sweater that said "hoe hoe hoe" on it, a barbie doll on a pole on. he held her back just as tight, "i can't believe you didn't come send me off!"
"yangyang told hendery to tell me," jamie deadpanned, "hendery."
"wrong choice on his part," ten laughed, "is taeyong here?"
"of course," jamie scoffed, "johnny too. jaehyun hasn't showed up yet."
confusion was in ten's eyes but he didn't say anything, "the others are on their way up."
"others?" jamie asked in confusion.
"stop touching it!" xiaojun's voice screeched from down the hall, "you're going to ruin it!"
jamie started crying out of laughter as soon as she saw xiaojun's sweater as he walked next to hendery and yangyang.
he had a flamingo on his shoulder and a palm tree on his sweater, a fake beard on and big, pink sunglasses covering his eyes. yangyang's sweater was supposed to be rudolph with antlers and a huge red button as the nose. hendery's said "merry catmas" on a stocking and a wine bottle in it that he was casually sipping from.
yangyang continued to poke the flamingo, making xiaojun more and more upset as time went on before he saw ten and jamie staring at them.
xiaojun ran ahead and hugged jamie, "look! his name is jerry!"
jamie laughed, "hi jerry."
jamie smiled at the other two boys, letting them in.
when she turned around, jaemin was standing there, scaring her.
"boy," jamie sighed, "why do you do this to me?"
"it's fun," jaemin shrugged, giving her a wide grin, "is that everyone?"
"everyone but jaehyun and lizzy," jamie sighed once again.
"they're going to come," jaemin consoled, resting his hand on her shoulder, "don't worry."
jamie nodded and tried to stop her worries.
she didn't want to be in a fight with jaehyun, not at all. in fact, it made her depressed to not spend time with him like they always would, him taking up more and offering shifts than her and never being home. she had gotten used to him being her rock, but he had left her.
she blamed it all on her though, and tried not to let it show as she pulled jaemin back to the party, going over to their younger group of friends.
yangyang and renjun were instant best friends, the two talking excitedly about something. xiaojun mostly stuck with jamie and jaemin who had made a small group, hendery and yena sending glances at each other from across the group.
jamie didn't necessarily like how close her ex and her crush were, but tried to ignore it.
"i guess we should start now, huh?" johnny asked, sadness in his voice.
"yeah!" lucas cheered, trying to bring up the mood, "let's go man!"
even with the group laughing, jamie still frowned, glancing at the door, waiting for jaehyun to come in.
the rest of the night they played, sang, yelled, cried, and had fun. jamie tried to ignore the sadness in her heart as she continually glanced at the door.
after the party was over and everyone had left but ten, taeyong, taeyong's girlfriend, mark, and jaemin, jamie still sat anxiously, wanting jaehyun to walk through the door.
"should we go find him?" jaemin asked, scaring her.
he had been in a conversation with mark about what was better milk or chocolate milk for the past hour while she was out of it.
mark stared at the two in curiosity, "jaehyun? is that who?"
jaemin nodded.
"i don't want to anger him more," jamie muttered, fiddling her fingers.
"jamie, you obviously miss him," jaemin scoffed, "just go up to him, hug him, and apologize."
"apologize for what though? for the truth?" jamie sighed, leaning back against the couch, "this is unfair."
"jamie," mark mumbled, handing her her phone, "your phone is ringing."
jaehyun's name was on the screen and jamie looked at jaemin, meeting his eyes, before excusing herself and walking into the hallway.
"hello?" she hesitated to answer, "jamie?"
his voice sounded so broken, so hurt, like he had been screaming and crying before he had called.
jamie swallowed, "hey."
"is the party over?" jaehyun asked.
"yeah, it's just taeyong, mark, and jaemin here now," jamie replied, glancing over at jaemin who was watching her with his eyes, "ten, uh, said he misses you."
"ten was there?" jaehyun swore quietly.
"yeah..."
"can you, uh, come outside the building? in the back?"
jamie glances at jaemin again, "yeah.. sure."
"thank you.."
jaehyun hung up and jamie walked back over to jaemin, "i'm going outside, i'll be back in a minute."
"want us to come?" jaemin asked and jamie shook her head.
"no, i don't want to overwhelm him," jamie mumbled, "i'll be back though."
jamie left, pulling a heavy jacket on and a pair of slides that were johnny's, taking the elevator down to the bottom floor.
when she got outside, jaehyun was leaning against the back of the building, a bottle of beer in one hand and the other against the building, a bag at his feet.
he glanced at her and his teary eyes made her heart break as she sped over, pulling him in her arms immediately.
he let out a sob and held her back even tighter, "it happened again. why am i so stupid? why did i think this time it would work?"
jamie just buried her head in his chest, trying to stop her own tears from falling, "you're not stupid jaehyun, you're just in love."
the two stood there for half an hour, waiting for jaehyun to calm down and be ready to face other people.
"are you okay now?" jamie asked jaehyun, rubbing his back.
he nodded, drying his tears with a tissue that was in jamie's pocket, "i'm alright..."
"taeyong is going to be excited," jamie beamed, "he's been asking all night for you."
jaehyun laughed, grabbing his bag, "no one can resist me."
jamie laughed along, "sure."
the two made it into the elevator, silence filling in.
"i'm sorry for not believing you," jaehyun said, leaning against the back corner of the elevator, "i should've, i was just so blind."
"it's alright," jamie smiled, "i'm sorry for pushing you, it wasn't my place. i just want the best for you."
"and i for you," jaehyun looked at her, his red eyes smiling, "promise we won't speak of what happened?"
"promise," jamie nodded, "what's the excuse for the eyes then?"
"someone sprayed me with pepper spray," jaehyun immediately said.
"ah, what an oldie," jamie laughed at the sentence. they had been using that for years so no one would suspect why they had red, puffy eyes when they came back home.
the two gave each other a grin before walking down to their apartment and into it, jaehyun being smothered by taeyong, lucas, and johnny, and jaemin going over to jamie.
"you good now?" he asked her, smiling slightly.
she nodded, "better than ever."
he beamed and the two went back over to mark, talking about why watermelon was the best fruit.
"oh wait!" jamie stopped, running into her room.
"jaehyun!" she sung, handing him the ugly christmas sweater, "you are a host, so you must match."
jaehyun groaned as he pulled the blue sweater on, "rolling with ma snowmies" on the front.
"i hate you."
"we love you too!"
