jamie walked into the cafe, a pink hoodie on, the hood over her knee length jacket, black jeans on underneath with platform boots. her short blue hair was now tan and wavy, thick glasses resting on her nose.

she found jeno sitting at a table with two drinks, a lime green hoodie and jeans on, a black backpack next to him, and his blond hair falling in his face as he played on his phone.

jamie sat in front of him, drowning in her coat, "you are so lucky you don't have older brothers."

jeno looked up in surprise, before smiling, a light laugh leaving his lips, "my sister pulls that sometimes too, the old, you're going to be too cold talk. then she goes out in tube tops and thin jackets and it's fine."

"exactly!" jamie whined, "jaehyun and johnny never wear jackets! if they do it's only a hoodie or a jean jacket, sometimes both."

jeno laughed, nodding his head, "i had older brothers at my last house that did that too."

"how many houses have you moved to?" jamie asked quietly.

"a couple," jeno lies, shrugging, before pushing a drink over to her, "it's hot chocolate, your favorite, jaemin told me."

jamie grinned, nodding as she took the hot drink, putting it up her to lips, "thank you."

he smiled and shook his head, watching as she took a sip before recoiling from how hot it was.

he let out a light giggle at the sight, jamie pouting, "that's mean!"

jeno laughed, his eyes practically closed, "but it's cute."

jamie's cheeks turned a light pink as she mumbled something to herself, blowing air into her drink to cool it.

jeno secretly took a picture, jamie realizing last minute and whining.

"look how good it is!" jeno showed her the pictures, "i love photography, normally i'm modeling for jaemin though."

jamie laughed, nodding, "jaemin is quite the photographer, isn't he? did you guys know each other before squad? you seem quite close."

"we had a couple projects together here and there," jeno hummed, "and a photography unit assignment. squad brought us together though and helped us become friends... i had matched with him before squad too."

jamie nodded, a smile on her lips as she took another sip of her hot chocolate, "that's nice."

jeno nodded back, taking a drink of his own drink.

"what did you get?" jamie asked, looking at the boy.

"americano," jeno laughed, "want a sip?"

jamie nodded happily, taking a sip of his coffee.

"that's good," jamie commented, "i normally don't drink coffee because johnny scared me into thinking it stunts growth. want a sip of my hot coco?"

jeno nodded and had a sip of hers, accidentally choking on it.

"are you okay?" she asked worriedly, taking the cup as he handed it to her.

"down the wrong pipe," he managed to get out in between coughs.

jamie couldn't help but laugh, making jeno pout, a smile tugging at his lips, "you're so mean to me! laughing as i die!"

"pretty sure you're still alive," jamie teased, before, wrapping her hands around her cup, "is the family you're with now your adoptive family or still a foster?"

"adoptive," jeno replied, "my sister met me through my past family's brother because they were dating and she begged her parents to adopt me."

jamie smiled softly, "i'm adopted too, so i know how it feels. you must be pretty lonely, huh?"

jeno shrugged, "sometimes. i don't have many friends at school and after you leave a family it's kind of hard to keep in touch... you kind of just have to cut off ties to be able to survive without them."

jamie hummed, playing with the cardboard covering on her cup, "i get it... is that why you're on dnyl?"

jeno nodded, "i wanted to make some friends outside of my foster families and my older sister."

jamie smiled, "and make friends you have! you might be closer to jaemin than i am and that boy practically lived with me for four months, and then did live with me for a month!"

jeno laughed, leaning back in his chair, "jaemin is clingy!"

jamie nodded, laughing along, "he is, isn't he?"

"jamie, you always seem so happy," jeno said after their laughter had died down, "how? your life seems to be so hard."

jamie shrugged, "it's how i am, i guess. i was brought up defending myself and only relying on myself, so i've gotten used to pushing everything down and just smiling and joking around to make other people happy, because in reality i am not, but i want others to be."

jeno nodded, "it's okay to put yourself first sometimes though and lean on someone."

jamie smiled, "i know and i'm training myself to do that now finally. i was unsuccessful with two but successful with way more, so i think i'm going to keep this up."

"you can always text next, you know," jeno muttered shyly, "i'm pretty much always on my phone when i'm not at theatre."

"you do theatre? that's so cool!" jamie beamed, "what do you normally do?"

"musicals," jeno grinned, "i'm actually apart of a group!"

"no way!" jamie squealed excitedly, "i love acting! i've always wanted to do that!"

"you should join!" jeno excitedly answered, squirming slightly from excitement, "it would be so much fun!"

"i'll ask johnny if i can!" jamie cheered, "this is going to be so much fun!"
