The smell of pancakes and eggs wafted through the sun lit home, being carried in the gentle breeze up the stairs and through the cracked open door of the second bedroom. The sweet scent swirled in the air across the room, hitting the young red head who sat with her legs crossed on her light pink bedding, waiting for her mother to call her down the stairs.
Excitedly, the young girl, just ten years old, closed her eyes imagining the breakfast that was being prepared by her mothers in the kitchen for her birthday celebrations and after what seemed like a life time, the young girl heard her name being called from the bottom of the stairs.
Instantly, she climbed off her bed, hurrying out of her room and down the set of stairs that led to the front door of her home, blindly running passed the suitcase which stood against the wall, her attention caught by the colourful balloons that littered the floor like a ball pit that led her to the kitchen.
"Happy birthday, Inanna" The young girls mothers shouted as she slid into the kitchen, gripping the door frame to stabilise herself before she crashed into the kitchen counter.
Inanna ducked her head shyly and her mother, Iris, ran around the kitchen counter, pulling her young daughter into a hug as she pressed kisses onto the top of her head, unable to wipe the large smile which had plastered onto her face when she had began baking with her girlfriend. "Happy birthday, baby" Iris tickled Inanna behind her ear making her squirm out of her hold with a giggle.
Inanna's mother, Marnie, who still stood by the counter, watching the interaction, picked up her son, sitting him on the kitchen counter next to her, secretly passing the small child a piece of pancake to keep him quiet for a moment longer.
"Thank you" Inanna mumbled as Iris tucked her daughters red hair, which matched her own, behind her ear.
"Before you have breakfast, do you want to have one of your presents?" Iris asked with a beaming smile.
Inanna hesitantly nodded, although she could feel her stomach churning hungrily, she desperately wanted to know what her parents had gotten her for her tenth birthday.
Iris set her hand on Inanna's shoulder, keeping her still while using her other hand to beckon someone else into the room.
The room fell silent for a moment, but as a familiar deep voice came from behind her, Inanna's eyes widened and she turned instantly, unable to contain her joy.
Stood in the doorway, holding a wrapped present was Inanna's father, who crouched down, sitting the present on the floor next to him before opening his arms.
"Happy Birthday, sweet girl" Jonny said with a slight tilt of his head.
Inanna left her mother's side, running into her father's arms. Inanna wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning her head against his shoulder and Jonny patted her back, mumbling how much he loved her as he stood up again, lifting his daughter up with him.
Jonny's grip tightened slightly but Inanna paid no mind to it, she was just happy to be able to hug her father on her birthday, which occasional she had to miss out on. But when something wet trickled down the side of her cheek which was squished against her father, Inanna lifted her head with confusion as she wiped the liquid away.
Smeared across Inanna's fingers was a deep red which seeped into the faint lines of her finger tips. It was blood. Fresh blood. Inanna turned her head towards her father, unsure of where the blood had come from, but when her eyes landed on her father's face, her question was answered before she had the chance to ask it.
Jonny's face which was unharmed and smooth skinned moments before, was bloody and torn, with a large shard of glass piercing through his eyeball, dripping blood down his face and his neck and onto his daughter in his arms.
Inanna's terrified scream echoed around the home, rattling her little brother, who burst into tears as the pancake fell from his hand and onto the floor while Inanna tried wiggling out of Jonny's rigid hold.
Inanna could hear her mothers asking what was wrong and Marnie desperately tried comforting her crying son, but Inanna couldn't respond, feeling as if she was sinking into a dark hole as her surroundings, including her father who held her, seemed to grow further away from her and another familiar voice, which called her name, grew louder and louder and...
"Inanna!".
Inanna's eyes shot open and the bottom half of her body slid off the bar counter as the bottle of whiskey fell from her hand, shattering onto the floor.
Diego's eyes widened as he and Lila grabbed Inanna, pulling her back onto the bar to stop her from falling into the shards of glass that now laid below her.
"Shit, Red, you had one heck of a night" Diego chuckled, looking around at used glasses and half empty bottles which laid around the bar.
Inanna stared blankly at Diego, wiping the drool from her chin, as she tried to gather her surroundings and make sense of the dream turned nightmare which she had been shaken awake from by Diego.
"Come on" Lila patted Inanna's calf. "Let's get you up. Diego's daddy is calling a family meeting in the lobby soon".
Lila was certain that Inanna wasn't paying attention and that her words had gone in one ear and straight out the other, but when Inanna began pulling herself up, she realised that Inanna was in fact listening and went to help her.
"You should have invited us, this party looks better than the wedding" Diego took Inanna's hand in his, pulling her up slowly as her head spun with a pounding headache.
"We should get you some water. Maybe some food too" Lila pushed Diego out of her way and stood in front of Inanna, grabbing Inanna's head in her hands to stop her head rolling like it weighed more than a bowling ball.
Inanna's eyes widened slightly and Lila tapped her cheek lightly making Inanna's eyelids flutter. "You definitely need some water in your system" Lila muttered. "Jesus, Inanna, how much did you drink?".
Inanna didn't know how much she drank, but she knew she wasn't as drunk as Lila thought, if anything she was in shock from the horrors her brain had conjured up while she slept. Though, Inanna had drank enough to have little to no recollection of the events that occurred after she had begun drinking — including a conversation she had shared with Reginald Hargreeves while she drank her first glass.
"You're a hot mess" Lila muttered trying to rub away the mascara with her thumbs, which had bled down Inanna's cheeks, mixing with the tears that had escaped her eyes while she slept.
"You gonna be sick?" Diego asked.
Inanna shook her head. Though she felt sick, it wasn't because of the alcohol she had consumed. The dream, although made up, had reminded Inanna of what she had lost and how brutally she had lost it.
Inanna shoved Lila's hands off her face. Lila took that as Inanna needing her space and took a step back from her, allowing Inanna to get off the bar by herself.
Diego and Lila followed Inanna with their eyes, watching her as she pressed her hand above her aching heart and began walking towards the elevators.
"Should we-" Diego pointed at Inanna with his thumb. "Maybe we shouldn't leave her alone" Diego said.
Lila nodded. She didn't think it would be wise. "You can hold her hair back if she pukes" Lila patted Diego's chest as his face twisted in disgust.
"Why do I have to?" Diego asked Lila as they followed after Inanna to the elevator.
Inanna wrapped her arms around herself, wondering where Five's blazer had disappeared to during the night as she had been wearing it when she had begun drinking, and she leaned her head against the wall of the elevator, watching Lila with half open eyes as she pressed the button to their floor.
"You good?" Diego asked nodding his head at Inanna. Inanna nodded, running her thumb over her earlobe which was missing an earring — She had no idea when she had lost it, all she knew was that she had it in her ear when she had left her hotel room the night before to meet Delaney. "You sure? You don't look so good".
"No shit, Diego, she's probably really fucking hungover" Lila slapped Diego's arm as she glared at him. "And she woke up to that" Lila pointed at Diego's face.
Diego ignored Lila, putting his attention back on Inanna, not only was he worried that she was going to throw up on both him and Lila — which was why he stood as far away from Inanna as possible in the small elevator — but he was also a little concerned as Inanna was yet to answer him or Lila with words. And if Diego had learnt anything about Inanna in the time he had known her, he knew that Inanna always had something to say.
"Is that a new necklace?" Diego asked, hoping he'd get a verbal response from Inanna instead of a head nod as he pointed at the silver jewellery that she wore.
Lila leaned against the elevator wall mumbling "Bloody hell" as she shook her head. Although Lila wanted to make sure Inanna made it back to her room in one piece, she didn't think it was necessary to pester her with small talk.
Inanna didn't respond and she didn't have to as the elevator dinged, signalling that they had arrived on their floor, a second before the doors rolled open, revealing the hallway to them.
Lila shoved Diego's chest, knocking him back against the elevator wall as Inanna left the elevator. "Stay here, alright" Lila nodded at Diego as his brows furrowed and Lila caught the elevator door, keeping it open. "The last thing Inanna needs right now is to be bombarded with questions".
"Lila" Diego sighed.
"Stay" Lila stepped out of the elevator, pointing at Diego.
Lila followed Inanna into her room and stayed by the door while Inanna began changing out of the black dress she had worn to the wedding.
"I don't need babysitting, Lila. I'm not gonna set the hotel on fire or anything" Inanna said stepping out of the dress which had looked around her feet.
"I know" Lila crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned against the door and Inanna began redressing into the shirt and jeans she had taken from the store before the wedding. "I just wanted to make sure you're good".
"I am. I'm good".
"Okay" Lila nodded. "'Cause you looked like you had seen a ghost or something".
"Just a shit dream that's all" Inanna's voice was slightly muffled as she pulled the shirt over her head.
"You wanna talk about it? My mum used to-" Inanna glared at Lila as she untucked her hair from the back of her shirt. Lila realised that mentioning about her mother wouldn't be the best thing. "Talking about it could make you realise that your night mare isn't as bad as you think".
"It wasn't a nightmare" Inanna responded.
Lila tilted her head. "Oh, because you don't get nightmares?" Lila asked. "A shit dream is basically a nightmare".
"I'm not twelve years old anymore. I'm not-".
"Oh my God" Lila groaned. "Just bloody tell me what happened in your shit dream before you die from old age".
Inanna narrowed her eyes at Lila as she stepped into her jeans. Inanna didn't feel like sharing what had happened in her dream, but she had a feeling that Lila wouldn't leave her alone until she knew.
"I saw my dad".
Lila uncrossed her arms. "That's it?" Lila asked. "I thought your dad was one of the few good ones in the world, like the complete opposite of-".
"He was dead" Lila's eyes widened subtly and her mouth formed into an 'o' shape. "Yeah, not exactly the best dream to have".
"It could have been worse, he could have been naked" Lila shrugged. Inanna's nose scrunched up in disgust but she strangely agreed with Lila, it would have been worse.
It fell silent for a moment between them as Inanna tied up the blood stained converses that Klaus had picked out for her the day they had arrived back in 2019. Inanna wouldn't have chosen them out herself but they were comfortable and her size.
"Speaking of deaths" Lila walked further into the room and leaned against the table while she casted her gaze on Inanna who sat on the edge of Five's bed. "I really am sorry that I lied about Stanley-" Inanna glanced up to Lila before dropping her eyes back to her shoes. "I know you liked him".
"I barely knew him" Inanna muttered.
"So?" Lila shrugged. "If you're gonna tell me that you didn't care about him, then i'm gonna call bullshit right now".
Inanna sat up straight, turning to look at Lila. "What is it with this family and you all claiming that you know me?" Inanna asked.
"Because you are incredibly easy to read" Lila replied. "Most of the time anyways" Lila added pulling herself up onto the table. "I mean, you are either a total psychopath who talks to inanimate objects or you are secretly a kind person who hides behind a knife and twenty threats a day".
"I didn't sign up for a therapy session, if that is where you plan on this conversation going".
Lila sighed, partially regretting that she had asked Diego to leave. "I just want to talk, that's all".
"Do you not see my mouth moving?" Inanna asked with a shake of her head as she stood up.
"Yeah but you're just spewing shit".
Inanna groaned as she walked towards the door, grabbing the dark blue jacket that hung on the end of her bed. She slipped her arms into the jacket before opening the door while Lila followed after her again.
"If you keep following me, someone's going to assume you have a thing for underaged girls" Inanna glanced over her shoulder to Lila as she headed towards the elevator at the end of the hallway.
"Hate to break it to you, but you aren't the Inanna I have a thing for".
"That is the most soul shattering thing I have ever heard" Inanna said as Lila fell into step next to her. "I don't know how I will ever truly get over it, Lila" Inanna rolled her eyes,
"You could start by getting under Five or on top of him, whatever floats your boat" Lila muttered with a shrug.
Inanna tilted her head back as she stopped in front of the elevator. "Please stop talking about my marriage". Lila smacked Inanna's hand and pressed the elevator button before Inanna did.
"What else am I supposed to talk about? The most thrilling thing to happen recently besides Diego loosing his fingers, is finding out that you and Five still have sex".
Inanna groaned in annoyance as the elevator dinged before the doors rolled open in front of them. "Thank God" Inanna mumbled under her breath.
Lila shoved Inanna, knocking her away from the elevator before she hurried into the box first. Inanna followed after her, her glare only amusing Lila further as she reached out to the elevator button. Inanna grabbed Lila's wrist and leaned passed her to press the button.
Lila grabbed Inanna's arm with her free hand, pulling her arm behind her back as she shoved her against the elevator wall in one quick movement which startled Inanna for a split second as the door slid closed.
Inanna tried to wiggle her hand free but Lila only chuckled, which further irritated Inanna who just wanted to get to the lobby for the meeting that Reginald was calling.
Inanna forcefully punched her elbow into Lila's side, causing Lila gasped sharply as her grip on Inanna loosened. Inanna spun them around, pressing Lila's back against the wall.
"Stop with your bullshit" Inanna spat her words as she pressed her arm against Lila's throat, only then noticing the tears that had welled up in the blonde's eyes. "What the fuck is wrong with you, Lila?" Inanna dropped her arm from her throat before taking a step back from her, taken aback by the sudden change in Lila's demeanour.
Lila placed her hand over the spot on her side which Inanna had just elbowed. She looked down at her stomach before looking back up at Inanna who was waiting for an answer.
Lila took a shaky breath before sliding her hand from her side to her stomach. "I'm pregnant".
Inanna's brows furrowed as the words sunk in, but Lila saw the annoyance in her eyes be replaced by what she could only assume was concern.
"I-" Inanna's eyes flickered from Lila's face to her stomach. "Shit- Why? Why would you attack me?" Inanna pointed at Lila as she shook her head, regretting her previous actions.
"I didn't think you'd elbow me".
"I'm a paranoid person" Inanna shouted, poking her finger into her chest. "And- and you and I, we don't have a great history-" Inanna ran her hands through her hair, pulling the red strands out of her face. "Your baby-" Inanna nodded her head at Lila's stomach. "-I didn't. They'll be okay, right?".
Lila nodded, though with the world ending in a couple hours, she didn't know if it mattered all too much as they'd all be dead. "They'll be okay".
Inanna's entire body relaxed and her arms fell to her sides as Lila leaned her head back against the elevator wall.
"Can you not tell the others?" Inanna nodded. "That includes Five too" Inanna nodded again. "I can just imagine that Luther and Sloane will make a big deal out of it and that is the last thing we need right now".
"Yeah" Inanna mumbled as the elevator doors pinged and opened up into the lobby.
Lila exited the elevator first with Inanna gesturing for her to go with a nod of her head. Inanna exited afterwards and fell into step with Lila as they walked down the steps.
"I'm happy for you though" Inanna said tucking her hands into her pockets. "For you and Diego" Inanna only assumed that Diego was the father and Lila's small smile confirmed it.
Lila threw her arm over Inanna's shoulder, pulling Inanna closer to her. "I knew you were a softie" Lila tried to kiss the top of Inanna's head but Inanna stepped out of her hold quickly, putting a few pacing between them.
"I'll still punch you in your face" Inanna said glancing over her shoulder to Lila, making the blonde chuckle as she skipped over to her.
