2k special - Yandere!Toma (Amnesia) - Being Needed
As thanks for 2000+ reads, I give you the present of Yandere!Toma being 4,800 words long! I hope this is an acceptable gift to you all! Enjoy!
I waited in the darkened room, my eyes wide as I tried to take in every bit of light available, from the smallest flicker of light peeking under the door to the faint sunlight trying to make its way through the heavy curtains of the window. The soft smell of laundry soap came from the pillows and blankets that surrounded my trembling form, almost hiding me from view as I pulled my head back under the rumpled sheets of the bed.
The feeling of eyes watching me was a constant thing, making my skin crawl as I could feel those eyes raking over my body. I could almost sense the malevolence of whatever it was waiting for me, the only questions were where it was hiding and what it wanted from me.
It was the sound of a distant door opening and closing that snapped me awake from the strange dream. Opening my eyes for real this time, I looked around my bedroom, seeing the sunlight pouring in through the window, tiny particles of dust floating through the beams of light as they seemed to almost sparkle as they moved.
The difference between my dreams and my reality were astoundingly immense. The only thing that remained the same from one to the other was the comforting smell of the clean sheets surrounding me. That and once in a while I would still get that feeling like something was watching me, but during the light of day it was a very easy thing to ignore.
I mean, we all get that feeling of being watched from time to time, right?
--------
"The parfait is exceptionally good today, Toma. Thank you for making it!" I smiled happily as I took another bite, nodding to the blonde young man as he smiled back before turning and walking to another table.
It was later, as I was taking the last bite of the parfait, that I felt again like I was being watched. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath, feeling a faint dread rise up in my chest. I couldn't help the small scream I let out when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey (y/n), are you okay? You seem a little tense over here." Opening my eyes at the concern I could hear in his gentle voice, I looked up into warm orange eyes.
"I'm okay Toma, thank you. I've just been feeling a little jumpy lately. Guess I haven't been getting enough sleep at night, ya know?" Laughing weakly, I tried to smile up at the man I'd befriended during the frequent visits to the cafe he worked at.
"Hmm.. Wait here, I'll be right back. I don't want you walking home alone when you are feeling like this. I'd end up worrying and unable to work." The soft smile he flashed my way made my heart warm, a real smile appearing on my face as I watched him walk over to his boss.
After a quick conversation between the two, Toma hurried into the back room, reappearing a few minutes later with his jacket on and in his regular clothing. Flashing him a worried look, I waited for him to return to my table.
"Toma, why did you get changed? Don't you need to come back to work afterwards? It would be easier if you had just worn your jacket over your work clothing. Or was Waka worried you would get the clothing messy, is that it?" I watched in confusion as he began laughing softly at me, a kind smile on his face as he messed up my hair.
"He said I could take the rest of the day off, since I didn't have too much more of my shift today left anyhow. He agreed that making sure you were taken care of was more important, so lets get going so I can take care of our favorite customer." Blushing, I turned my head away from him and stood up, grabbing my own coat from the back of the chair.
"Thanks Toma. It means a lot to me, having a friend as good as you to look out for me. I really don't know what I would do without you!" I quickly pulled him into a hug, happy to know that even though I lived so far from my family, I still had people nearby that cared about me.
The warmth I got back as he returned the hug was enough to almost make me forget the cold weather outside.
--------
I turned the key, unlocking the door to my apartment as I felt a chill run down my spine.
"Toma, let's hurry inside. The air is so cold today and I don't want you to get sick just because you walked me home. I'll make you something warm to eat, so make yourself at home while I get started." Smiling quickly at him, I put my jacket and shoes away before heading into the kitchen.
"Would you like me to assist you?" Toma's voice called to me as he slowly put away his own jacket and shoes, gazing around the apartment as he wandered towards the living room.
"It's okay, Toma. Like I said, make yourself at home! Consider this my way of saying thank you for taking care of me today." Smiling softly to myself, I began pulling out a few pans and various ingredients.
"Then I'll be taking over the living room, if you don't mind (y/n)? Maybe we could watch a movie while we eat!" His cheerful voice carried into the kitchen with ease, brightening my mood as I began washing the vegetables before chopping them up.
"That would be fun! Pick whatever you'd like to watch, I like to think I have a decent collection of movies to pick from." I smiled happily as I began heating one of the pans on the stove top, grabbing the needed spices as the faint smell of warming olive oil filled the kitchen.
--------
Laughing as the credits rolled across the screen, I began gathering the plates only to have them taken from my hands by Toma. Looking up, I saw a warm smile on his face as he stood up.
"You cooked the food, it is only fair that I clean them. I'll be right back." After messing up my hair, he walked into the kitchen, dishes filling his hands.
Smiling after him, I stood and trailed behind him as I heard the faucet turn on and water begin filling the sink. Walking up behind him, I reached over and grabbed a dish towel.
"You wash and I'll dry them?" I couldn't help smiling at the tiniest hint of pink on his cheeks.
"Sure, that will get things done faster like this." The look on his face as he spoke those words made my heart flutter the tiniest bit as I finally understood what people meant when they spoke of having butterflies in their stomach.
--------
"Thanks again, Toma. Maybe... Maybe we can do this again some time. If you want to, that is. I mean, you don't have to-" My words were cut off as I felt his lips press gently against mine, my eyes wide with shock before I melted into the sensation.
Feeling his fingers run through my (h/c) hair, I closed my eyes and gave in to the feelings running through me. Everything, from the tingling of my lips as they brushed against his to the small tremors in my legs as I fought to keep upright, it was all building up to slowly push my senses over the edge.
I was being overwhelmed by the feelings he was creating in me, but I couldn't bring myself to want to do anything but float within the sensations. It was almost painful when I felt him pull away from me, a shock to my body as much as my mind. Bringing my fingers up, I ran them across my lip, feeling tiny sparks under the skin.
"I have a day off coming up, maybe we can get together then?" I almost didn't hear him talk, my brain still trying to make sense of the world around me, but once I put together what he'd said I began slowly nodding at him with a smile curving my lips upwards.
"I'd like that very much, Toma. Very much indeed." Leaning forward, I pressed a quick kiss to his cheek as we said our goodbyes and I slowly closed the door behind him.
Leaning against the door I once again touched my lips, smiling as I recalled how warm his own had felt, how gentle he had been. Maybe it wouldn't be so weird, being more than just friends with him.
--------
"Merry Christmas Toma!" I shouted happily, holding the carefully wrapped gift out to him, light softly reflecting off of the gold foil paper.
We'd been dating for a few months now, in addition to having already been friends before that, and the thought of being able to get a gift for someone I cared about had been exciting to me. After all, spending a couple years away from your family and by yourself makes you appreciate having someone around again to enjoy the holidays with.
"Yeah, Merry Christmas (y/n)." A small, but warm, smile lit his face as he took the present from my hands, pulling me into a gentle hug.
--------
New Years Eve was spent at the Cafe, everyone gathering together to celebrate the end of the old year and the beginning of the next. It was just before midnight hit that I found myself looking for Toma, wondering what was keeping him so busy. When I heard his voice in the back room as I passed, I put my hand on the door, ready to push it open the rest of the way. I froze when I heard the voice of one of his coworkers.
"Toma, your already with (y/n). You shouldn't be asking someone else on a date when you already have someone. Besides, you know I'm already in a relationship of my own. I'm not leaving him, Toma. So don't ask me again." The soft, feminine voice barely carried through the tiny opening of the door, but it never-the-less managed to fill my ears as I stood there in shock.
Hearing movement coming towards the door, I quickly turned away and hurried to the front of the cafe. Ignoring the voices around me asking what was wrong, I opened the door and left, turning towards my home and rushing down the sidewalk. All I could feel were the tears running down my cheeks as my heart continued shattering into tiny, jagged pieces.
By the time I got home, I was a wet, shivering mess. Dropping my purse beside the entrance, I barely realized that I had left my coat at the cafe, heading to the living room and collapsing on the couch as I cried myself to sleep, unable to take another step.
--------
I woke up to pounding on the door, matching the pounding in my head as forced myself upright. Slowly making my way to the entry, I heard Toma's voice from the other side and barely opened the door to look at him.
"What do you want?" I asked him quietly, my head still feeling sore.
"I'm here to return your coat. You left it behind last night when you left. Why did you rush out so fast? You didn't even say goodbye to me, to anyone in fact." I opened the door enough to grab my coat, throwing it to the floor inside before turning back to look at his surprised face.
"Why should I bother? You were too busy with that other girl to care about what I was doing, so what need did I have to say goodbye? No, wait... You're right... Goodbye Toma. I don't want to see you again. I refuse to waste any more time on someone who doesn't really want to be with me." Closing the door and locking it, I ignored the shouts from the other side and began walking towards my bedroom.
I barely felt my head hit the pillow before I was asleep again.
--------
Everything seemed so distorted when I woke up again, my mind fuzzy and head aching. I didn't even have the strength to open my eyes more than a crack when I felt something cool touch my forehead, able to make out little more than a vague figure beside me before closing my eyes again.
"It's okay, I'll take care of you. Do you think you can eat some broth?" A muffled voice seemed to whisper, an arm lifting me up as the other moved the pillows behind me the moment I nodded the slightest bit in agreement.
Soon I felt a spoon resting against my lips, opening my mouth to feel the warm broth trickle down my throat. After several minutes, I had finished as much as I could take and shook my head no to the next spoonful. I heard the bowl being sat down on the bedside table and felt a new cooled cloth replace the one that had been on my forehead before I ate.
"Thanks..." I mumbled, my voice cracking from the fever that was overheating my body.
"Shhh. Just rest and get better. I'm not going anywhere, so you needn't worry about being alone anymore." Perhaps if I hadn't been so sick, I would have spent more time contemplating how someone had gotten into my locked apartment and why they were here in the first place.
Somewhere, deep inside my mind, I knew who this was helping me. What I didn't know, was why he was here after everything that had happened.
--------
It took days before I was feeling good enough to get out of bed, let alone leave the apartment, but finally I was allowed to go outside. With assistance of course. I couldn't help smiling at the young man walking beside me as we wandered to the cafe to have lunch. Maybe, just maybe, things could work out for us this time.
Smiling as he held the door open for me, we found ourselves seated quickly, a few curious looks sent our way from some of the staff as we began making plans for how to spend the rest of the day together. I couldn't believe it had taken such a short amount of time to become so close again.
"Who the heck is this, (y/n)?" Toma's voice washed over me, my eyes narrowing at the anger he dared display to me.
"Why do you care? Last time I checked, you were too busy chasing after some other girl on New Years Eve to even worry about me until the next morning. Besides, we're not even together anymore, so who I spend my time with now doesn't have anything to do with you. You had your chance with me and you decided I wasn't enough for you." Looking over at the brunette beside me, I stood up. "Let's go, Yuu. My appetite is gone."
I ignored the feeling of Toma's eyes watching me as we walked out, just wanting to get away from him. It was supposed to be his day off, the only reason I had gone to the cafe today. I guess he had wanted to spend more time near that girl he liked, why else would he have been there?
Shaking my head, I continued out the door, pulling Yuu behind me as I went.
--------
"(y/n), why are you avoiding that guy still? It's been over a month now, surely it's time to let it go." Yuu's gentle voice came from behind me as I tried to decide what to make us for lunch, my head almost inside of the fridge as I peered around to see what we had.
Slowly pulling my head back out, I closed the door and turned around, looking up into his warm brown eyes as he smiled down at me. Letting out a quiet sigh, I nodded at him as I felt his arms wrap around me.
"You're right Yuu, it's time to let go and move on. What do you say to lunch at the cafe today? And maybe some shopping afterwards to restock the fridge, since it's starting to look a little bare in there..." Smiling up at him, I could feel the warmth filling my heart as I listened to his laughter echo through the room.
"You're right, you're right! We do need to go shopping soon. We can only live for so long on bread, mustard and cheese, right?" Cringing at the idea of eating one of his 'cheese sandwiches' tomorrow, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen to start a list of things to buy at the market.
"We are definitely going shopping. It is no longer a maybe. My taste buds demand it." Within a few minutes I had finished a basic list of things to get and we were out the door, holding hands as we made our way to "Maid's Sheep" for lunch.
--------
Our lunch had gone better than I had expected, receiving greetings from everyone working that day, as well as requests to not stay away so long and leave them missing my company like that. Promising that we would both come by more often, I even managed to give a small smile to Toma as he came to collect the dishes after we had finished the meal. Seeing the smile he gave me back, I felt my own smile grow into a more sincere one.
"Thank you Toma." I quietly told him, putting a hand on his arm as he looked at me in surprise.
"Why are you thanking me, (y/n)? I messed up, you have no reason to be thanking me." The smile that had been on his face before, faded into a frown as he spoke.
"I needed some time to get over what happened, I admit. But I think, if you are willing to try, I would like to at least be friends again? Please?" Looking into his eyes, I could almost see the internal war he had with himself and prepared myself for a negative response to my question.
Not that I could blame him. Few guys ever want to be friends with someone they used to date, especially when it meant watching them spend time with another guy in their place. Pulling my hand back from his arm, I gave a small jump when I felt his hand grab it, pulling me into a hug.
"I'd rather be just your friend again, than loose you completely, (y/n). Thank you for letting me at least have that much of you back." Hugging back, I could only feel joy at having not forever lost a friend, even if we had been through a bad breakup.
We just hadn't been meant to be more than friends.
--------
As the weeks passed, me and Yuu spent more and more time hanging out with Toma, from watching movies on the nights Toma have to work, to having lunches at the cafe and chatting with Toma as he took a break to visit us.
It was the beginning of April when things started falling apart. Yuu had left for a few weeks to take care of some family trouble his brother was going through, so when the notice appeared on my door that I had three days to find someplace else to stay for a week while the building was being worked on, I only had one person I could turn to.
--------
"Please Toma, I know it's sudden and will understand if you say no, but I don't have anyone else I can ask..." I cringed, closing my eyes as I waited for his answer.
"Of course you can stay at my place! I'd be delighted to have you as a guest, for as long as you need!" The warm smile on his face when I opened my eyes brought back memories of late nights watching movies together, sipping hot chocolate as we talked about what parts we enjoyed the most.
"Thanks Toma. You really are my best friend." I wrapped my arms around him as I hugged him tightly, enjoying the smell of cinnamon from the baked goods he'd been serving when I came to the cafe.
"Yeah, I know." For a moment, I could have sworn he sounded upset, but when I looked up at him again he was smiling as brightly as ever.
--------
"Your place is really nice, Toma! I forgot how clean you always kept it! I wish Yuu kept things so neat, I always feel like I'm picking up after him!" Turning around in the middle of his living room, I sighed as I recalled the last time I'd had to pick up after my boyfriend's messes.
"You shouldn't have to clean up someone else's mess, (y/n). You deserve better than being some guy's maid." Looking over, I noticed the tiny frown on Toma's face and smiled at him.
"It's okay, Toma. I don't mind picking up after someone I care about. But I do wish he was more like you and helped out with the cleaning! That always made it seem more fun to clean, having someone helping!" I smiled even more at the happier memories I recalled from our past.
"Then I expect you to help me with dishes after meals here. I'll wash and you can dry." Seeing the smile on his face, I could only happily agree as I felt like our friendship was finally close to what it used to be, back before we had started dating.
"I'll be happy to, Toma. And we can take turns cooking." For the first time in weeks, I felt like the smile I gave Toma was an honest smile, with nothing held back for once.
--------
"Good Morning, Toma! I hope you feel like an omelet today, because I already made breakfast for us!" Setting the plates on the table, I sat down and smiled brightly at the barely awake blonde as he stared at me with wide eyes, finally nodding and walking over to his chair.
"It smells wonderful, (y/n)! This is definitely worth waking up for! Everything is just perfect!" I smiled as I cut into my omelet, the cheesy center oozing out chopped vegetables and bits of bacon.
"I'm glad you like what I made! I'll be happy to cook breakfast for us every morning during the week I am here!" Taking a bite of food, I didn't notice how his eyes grew dark when he remembered I would only be here for a week before going back home.
"Yes, I'd be more than happy to eat your cooking every morning."
--------
The days slowly passed as I enjoyed having my friendship with Toma back to what it used to feel like, cooking and cleaning together. It was almost like having a brother in some ways, ignoring the fact that we had made the mistake of dating for a short time.
With only two days left before I could move back home, I saw Toma walk in with a frown on his face as he came into the living room and turned on the TV. Seeing what was on the news, I felt my knees fold under me as I fell to the floor in shock. The image of my apartment building in flames filled the screen as the reporter mentioned a broken gas pipe in the building.
"(y/n)? Are you okay?" I barely made out Toma's worried face before everything went black.
--------
It took a few extra days to get over the idea of everything I'd left behind being lost forever. Pictures of family and friends, movies, books, clothing, even the valentines gift Yuu had gotten me just a couple months ago, all lost forever.
The only good things were that me and Yuu had not been inside the building at the time, and that I had someplace to stay while waiting for the insurance company to decide what to do now about the losses.
Sitting on the couch, I leaned against Toma's side as I thanked him for letting me stay until things could get figured out.
"(y/n), I've already told you, you can stay as long as you want. I don't mind having you here, you're great company." If I had been in a better state of mind, I might have responded differently when I felt his lips on the side of my head, but I could only take it as a comforting gesture from him and respond with a hug.
"Thank you Toma. I don't know what I would do without you."
--------
Yuu's return was delayed and I ended up celebrating Toma's birthday with just the two of us. I baked a small cake while he was at work the previous day and had managed to sneak out to buy him a gift, something to thank him for both being such a good friend to me and for letting me stay for so long, nearly half a month already.
Hearing the door opening, I turned towards the entry with a smile after quickly lighting the candles on the cake, the neatly wrapped present held out in my hands. I fought off the feeling of Christmas repeating itself and smiled as brightly as I could at Toma as he walked inside the door.
"Happy Birthday Toma!" I shouted happily, enjoying the look of shock on his face as he looked from me to the gift I was holding out.
"You remembered my birthday? Thank you, (y/n)! You have no idea how much this means to me!" As he took the gift and gently set it down, I was surprised to find myself pulled into a warm hug, his arms wrapping around me as he gazed down at me with a smile.
"Toma, why wouldn't I remember your birthday? You're my best friend! Even if I forgot everyone else's birthdays, you and Yuu would always be remembered by me!" Tilting my head slightly, I almost missed the frown on his face at the mention of Yuu's name.
"(y/n), why can't you just forget about Yuu? He's not coming back, haven't you caught on yet? He was supposed to be back days ago and he just keeps sending you texts delaying his return. If he really cared, he would be here with you, when you need someone at your side. Look around you, because the one at your side is me, and I'll happily stay there forever if you'll let me. Please, let me have one more chance to try again with you? I promise I won't mess up this time." Staring at him in shock, it took a while before I could stand up.
"I'm sorry, I don't feel that way about you any more, Toma. I... I'm going to my room. I think I need to rest for a bit and think things over." I walked shakily to the room I was using as my own and closed the door behind me, sitting on the bed as I could only recall the broken look on his face as I'd answered him just moments ago.
--------
"What do you mean you're leaving? Where are you going to go?! You can't just leave without having someplace to live!" Toma's voice steadily rose as he stared at me, shock clearly written across his face.
"You forget, although I don't have anyone besides you out here, I still have family. I'm going back home. My parent's have been wanting me to visit anyhow, and if I end up staying for a few weeks or even a few months, they are fine with that. I'm sorry, Toma, but I just don't feel comfortable staying here anymore. Hopefully, if I even more back here again, we can try being just friends again. But right now I am not sure if that will be possible. Goodbye." I turned and headed towards the door, my suitcase waiting beside the entry for me.
"NO! You're not leaving me again!" I gasped in shock when I felt his hand grab my arm and turn me around, pulling me against his chest as he locked his arms around me.
"Toma! Stop it! Let me go!" I struggled in his grasp, my hands pressing against his chest as panic started setting in.
"No! I refuse to let you go again! I was foolish to let you go the first time and I will not let it happen again! You're mine, (y/n)! MINE!"
--------
Sitting within the large cage, I could only look out sadly at the broken young man watching me. I'd never realized just how broken he was until after he'd locked me away in here, listening to him talk to himself as he promised to stay with me this time. Forever.
"Toma, please just let me out of here. I promise I won't leave you." I could feel my heart break a little as he looked at me, his bright orange eyes shining with madness as our eyes met.
"I'm sorry (y/n), but I can't take the chance you'll leave me again. I need you too much to let you go." Reaching out my hand, I could only hold his own hand tightly as I watch the tears run down his face, passing the smile on his lips as the room grew dark. Night was setting in.
"Goodnight, Toma..." The same words I had been repeating for days, would continue to repeat for however long I was kept here, in this cage that seemed to symbolize Toma's feelings for me.
