Padmavati, a little girl, once learned the Gita Govinda song and she sang it in her a very melodic and a heart touching voice.

She had the habit of singing while plucking and collecting brinjals from the brinjal farm during evening time.

Her voice was so sweet and adorable that it even attracted our beloved Lord Jagannath.

He was so uplifted by her voice that he came to that Brinjal farm leaving the temple, where Padmavati was singing her songs. He left the Puri and went to the farm in the village where Padmavati was singing.

While Padmavati was singing the song of Gita Govinda, Lord walked behind her while hearing and enjoying the song.

As we know the brinjal plants has thorns so while he was walking, thorns got stucked in his feet. But lord didn't mind it. He simply continued to walk behind Padmavati to listen the song.

Now it was the night time and Lord quickly needed to left the place in order to reach the temple as in the morning like always Mangala Aarti will be conducted for which Lord needs to be present.

So Lord quickly rushed to the temple and sat on his aasan.

During morning when the workers who were knows as Pandyas opened the curtain the scene in front of them made them shocked.

The upper garment of the Lord was missing and the lower garment was torn. The Pandyas immediately rushed to the king and narrated everything to him saying that it is inauspicious and enquired him about what to do next.

After the Pandyas left King started thinking that he has done any kind of offense hence such inauspicious thing has occurred. So for appolozing to Lord, hs decided to keep fast and hence he started fasting.

Lord Jagannath appeared in his dreams and said him, "Leave this fast. I am not angry on you. You have not made any mistake and also nothing has happened to me. Actually that night that girl was singing so sweetly the song Gita Govinda that I was not able to stop myself from going there. So I walked into that Brinjal farm and hence due to the thorns it happened".

Next day the King sent his soldiers to find that girl and after finding her he himself requested to her to sing the song of Gita Govinda every night before the Lord sleeps.

He even made Padmavati's family shift to Puri and also arranged the house for her family.

So every night Padmavati use to sing Gita Govinda to Lord before he sleeps.

Even today in Puri before the last darshan, they sing Gita Govinda to please Lord as it's the most pleasing thing to sing it for him. He likes it very much.
