Divinations #2 (edited)

Divination
/ˌdɪvɪˈneɪʃn/
noun
The practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.

The lightning crackled in the distance, waking up the poor child with a fright. A flash of the girls' nightgown could be seen as she burrowed herself beneath her covers- clutching them to her body in a hope that whatever monster was lurking outside would not notice her presence.

The pitter-patter of the rain on the glass panes reminded the little girl of birds hopping about for food, her sudden fear overtaken by curiosity of what could be watching. Slowly - cautiously even - she removed the blankets from above her head and peered into the darkness of her room.

A scream left her lips as a terrifying BANG struck nearby - her room having suddenly been lit up by the lightning bolt, striking the tree outside. It burst into flames. The girl clutched the covers above her head once more, too scared to even tremble in her fears.

CRACK.

The sound rattled the tiny bedroom, and a whimper fell from the bed. The girl buried her face in her pillow, hoping with all her pure little heart that whatever was out to get her would leave her alone.

Intruiging the little girl quite some, light illuminated her room. Confused, her curiosity led her to pull the covers off her face yet again. Hadn't her father told her only to use her night lamp as there was no bulb in the lamp overhead? Had her father replaced it? A soft gasp punctured her lungs as she gazed in awe at what surrounded her.

The dark room was suddenly engulfed in an illuminous yellowy-orange light. It originated from one small object on the top of her small stack of shelves. It was, what appeared to be, a snow globe. The frightening image of the burning tree suddenly left her mind as that childish intrigue overcame her yet again.

A frown marred the youngsters face. The snow globe was a last gift from her grandfather before he had passed. Why was it glowing?

She slipped from her bed with a quiet thud on the soft carpet. Tip-toeing to her shelves, she tentatively reached for the globe. She remembered receiving the gift from her dear grandfather, it hadn't been a birthday or Christmas, it was simply a gift from his travels.

A smile overtook her little face, and her big blue eyes watered as the globe seemed to dim at her touch. She gazed into its contents, her eyes scanning the earth in the centre and the many dozens of lights across its surface. She giggled as she saw a few flicker on and off. Each little light represented the lights of each house all across the world

Her smile faded for a split second though, as she noticed a slight crack and scratches across the very top of the object- it seemed to be fully intact though, so she didn't suspect anything was wrong with it.

She shook the snow globe a little, laughing giddily as a few lights flickered.

SMACK

Her head shot up in surprise. One of her many books had fallen off the bottom shelf. Why had It fallen? There was nothing to make it move. Confused, but too enraptured by the lights dancing across the globe before her eyes, she focused on the amazement of the earth before her.

Then another SMACK hit the room. And then another. And then another. All three books from different places- there was no need for any of them to fall, there was no one and nothing there. Books thudded on each shelf as they moved- as if in a hamsters wheel, rolling back and forth. Not even her family cat had managed to sneak his way onto her shelves this time - he was sleeping by her door, totally unaware and uncaring of what a joyous and thrilling time his little owner was having.

The child seemed oblivious to what was going on - what she was causing. Every time she moved and hopped and giggled, jolting the little world of fun around, it seemed to shake the room. She was simply too blissfully unaware to notice she had been the one to find the voodoo version of the very earth she loved.

The wee bairn giggled, happily trotting back to her bed with the snow globe in hand. This time, her cute stuffy fell from her bed side. Surely she hadn't forgotten to tuck Mr Bear into bed?!

Hurriedly, she put down the globe and grasped her teddy bear, clambering into bed and tucking both herself and the bear- that took up a good portion of the bed- into their little safe heaven.

Another muffled CRASH rattled her room. This time, the girls' curtains fell from their perch. Though, it didn't disturb her in the slightest. No. Not that night, and not for the rest of the night, as she hugged her precious bear close to her chest, and fell into a peaceful slumber. She would be safe as long as he was there.
