The Good Doctor's Story

"Well, that's a hell of a story." Felix remarked after Marvin recounted their journey.

"Where Sean? Robbie want Sean!" Robbie pouted as he woke up, looking up at Marvin.

"I called him, he's on his way from Brighton Pier...you guys really scared him." Felix replied.

"Sorry." Chase apologized sheepishly.

"Hey Felix, I'm back." Sean announced as he walked in, his expression betraying his exhaustion.

"Is everyone okay? Where were you guys? What happened?" Sean barraged the egos with questions before Chase repeated what Marvin had told Felix.

"Wait, Schneep started turning into Anti? How? That doesn't make sense!" Sean exclaimed.

"The fact that they're here at all doesn't make sense." Felix mumbled under his breath.

"What happened to you?" Sean ignored Felix, looking at Schneep.

"I...." Schneep trailed off, his eyes glimmering with weariness and fear.

"It started when I woke up two years ago."

"Hello? Vhat's happening?!" Schneeplestien cried out as his eyes opened to find nothing but darkness around him, his body unable to move due to the confinement of wherever he was trapped

"So, a third younger ego."

Schneeplestien desperately beat on the walls of his prison in hopes to escape.

His attempts were in vain.

"V-Vhere am I?" Schneeplestien stammered.

"A better question would be who are you?" The voice countered.

"I-I'm Doctor Henrik Von Schneeplestien, German doctor with a wife and two kids." Schneeplestien replied hesitatingly.

"And?" The voice prompted.

"I'm Jack's friend, and Marvin, Chase, and Jackaboy-Man are my fellow egos." Schneep continued.

"How do I know this?" Schneep wondered aloud.

"Your memories are working, which is very good. Come on out then."

Suddenly Schneep's prison disappeared around him, allowing a dull light to illuminate his surroundings with its soft yellow glow provided by the lightbulb above.

He could see a person that had blue eyes dressed in a dark blue suit standing in front of him, smiling warmly.

Schneep shakily stepped out of his prison, observing the bare, sterile room around him.

"Hello Doctor Schneeplestien, welcome to the real world." The man grinned, twirling the knife in his hand.

"Who are you?" Schneep asked.

"Silly me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name's Anti, and I'm your fellow clone." He introduced himself proudly.

"My fellow clone?" Schneep repeated in confusion.

"Well I guess the term ego would be more appropriate, but technically yes. Here." Anti gestured over to where a mirror was hanging on the wall, allowing a Schneep to see his reflection.

He had scruffy brown hair just like Anti, even though it was partially hidden by his hat. The only difference was the clothes much to Schneep's surprise.

"Now, I don't know much about this place, but I do know that we're their experiments that are part of this operation called Operation Divided." Anti explained.

"Vhich brings me back to my previous question of vhere ve are." Schneep replied as he looked back at Anti.

"I don't know." Anti huffed in irritation.

"But, I'm planning on escaping with everyone else and getting revenge." Anti told Schneep.

"I don't understand." Schneep admitted as he shook his head.

"I'm getting you out of here, just like all the other egos." Anti promised him.

"Follow me, I need to find the others." Anti instructed before running out of the room with Schneep in tow.

"Wait, I don't understand why I know the other egos even though I haven't met any of them yet. Why do I remember having a family, but know nothing about them?" Schneep panted as he ran.

"From what I've heard, we're personified versions of Jack's personality, we each stand for some part of his, like how you're his outgoing, caring side." Anti explained easily as he turned a corner down the hallway.

"And you?" Schneep asked as they skidded to a stop outside of a thick metal door.

"I'm his hopes and dreams, his aspirations." Anti stated before breaking the door down with a single punch.

"What the hell?!" A man with white hair and baby blue eyes exclaimed in surprise from where he was sitting at a conference table, another man with short light brown hair beside him.

"Tell us where the others are!" Anti demanded.

"Anti-"

"Not now Schneep." Anti cut him off.

"Somebody call security ASAP, Jack's demon is on the loose." The white haired man directed the other man.

"What? No! I-I help him, I'm there to help Jack! I'm his hopes and dreams!" Anti protested.

"You do nothing but hurt Jack, no matter what. I've seen you nearly kill him with just a hi-five." The white-haired man interjected coldly.

"So I'm just assigned as Jack's dark side." Anti muttered.

"I'm sorry." Schneep apologized feebly.

"Don't. You. Dare." Anti growled threateningly as his hands clenched up in fists at his side.

"I should've known when Jack pushed me away when I was in his head." Anti hissed furiously as his body started to glitch, the suit replaced with all black clothes as a knife appeared in his hand.

"I can't help Jack." Anti giggled maniacally as he dragged his knife across his own throat, causing blood to drip onto the floor.

Schneep could see Jack's body in the darkness, his breathing labored as blood flowed from his body and down his chest from a long, horizontal cut along his neck.

"Jack! Jack, no! My friend! NO!!" Schneep cried as he tried to save him.

But he couldn't.

"Fuck you!" Schneep spat through his tears.

Anti only laughed in response before he fell silent, his hand taken off of Schneep's head as he walked away down the maze of hallways.

Schneep was stuck in a nightmare where he could never save Jack, having to watch him die in his arms for what felt like years, time meaningless as Schneep faced the same nightmare every waking moment.

"That really happened? God man, I'm sorry." Jack interrupted, his eyes wide in shock as he listened to Schneeplestien's story with the other egos and Felix.

Schneep didn't reply as he took a deep breath before continuing his story, his eyes closed as the memories he fought so had to forget came flooding back to him.

"Schneeplestien? God you look rough."

Schneep opened his eyes at last for the first time in years to see Chase Brody standing over him.

"What happened to you?" Chase grunted as he helped Schneep up off of the floor.

"I guess I just fell into a coma or something when security knocked me out." Schneep lied, feeling a twinge of guilt.

"I get that, Felix and Robin are merciless. Anyway, now that we've found everyone we can leave." Chase told him.

"How long has it been?" Schneep whispered hesitantly.

"It''s twenty-eighteen now." Chase informed him.

"Two years since I woke up....And Anti?" Schneep countered.

"I haven't seen him after he said he was looking for you. I can't believe it took two years to find you. Anyway, let's go!" Chase exclaimed, dragging Schneep out into the hallway.

"Everyone ready?" Marvin asked the group.

"Born ready!" Jackaboy-Man boasted.

"Yay!" Robbie cheered.

Jameson shot Marvin a thumbs up.

"Let's do it!" Chase exclaimed.

"You're leaving me?!"

The group of egos whirled around to find Anti standing behind them, his knife glinting in the light.

"You stopped paying attention!" Anti cried as he charged towards them with his knife raised to attack.

"Smoke!" Marvin cried as he pulled a card out of his deck and threw it on the ground, causing the group to disappear in a cloud of smoke just as Anti ran towards him.

"We escaped!" Jackaboy-Man laughed in disbelief as they appeared on a wooden dock, ocean air gently caressing their faces.

Schneep didn't reply as he placed a hand on his neck, pulling it away to see it stained with blood.

The last thing Schneep saw before he passed out was all of the ego's smiling faces as he fell to the ground.

"And now here I am." Schneep finished with a sigh.

Everyone in the room fell into stunned silence, no one daring to speak until they had processed his words.

"Robbie sorry." Robbie whispered as he  patted Schneep's legs comfortingly.

"Damn Doc...why did you lie to me?" Chase spoke up.

"I couldn't talk about what I had been through...seeing Jack die over and over again-"

Schneep broke off as his voice cracked with emotion, his gaze downcast.

"I still see him die in my dreams every night." Schneep whispered.

"So he can possess all of you...is he still possessing you?" Jack asked.

"No, but he tried changing me, making me be your dark side so he could be what he wanted to be, your hopes and dreams. So part of his control is still in me." Schneep explained, clearing his throat.

"Damn." Felix whistled in awe.

"I'm going to bed, goodnight." Schneep announced abruptly before disappearing into Jack's recording room, slamming the door shut behind him.

"Okay, um, goodnight everyone I guess." Jack shrugged before leaving the room to go to his bedroom.

As he walked by his recording room, he could hear Schneep quietly sobbing inside, the sound muffled by the wood door.

Jack shook his head before continuing down the hall and into his room, climbing into his bed.

Jackaboy-Man laid on one end of the couch with Marvin at the other end, Robbie opting to take the floor with Jameson.

Sean laid in bed wishing his brain would let him sleep instead of listening to Schneep's words repeated in his head over and over lie a broken record, his tossing and turning fruitless.

"I have to stop Anti, now more than ever." Sean decided firmly as he got up and slipped out of the house into the night.
