Chapter 1

Our world is divided into 5 covens; you're either born as a werewolf, or a vampire, a witch, or a doppelgängers. The 5th group is the Outcasts; they don't belong anywhere.
I thought I would end up as an Outcast until I turned 16 and 3 months later chose my destiny that would change my life forever.
Being a doppelgänger required you to do things other factions most likely didn't do. Which included keeping your hair up, wearing no makeup, putting others before you, and never looking in the mirror: except for every 3 months. It wasn't anything incredible, but it was something to look forward to.
My mother wasn't supposed to keep the mirror opened while she cut my hair, but she did it anyways. A lot can change in 3 months, for example, my light brown hair was now just a normal shade of brown, my hazel eyes were bigger, my pale skin was still pale, and my curly hair has grown at least 3 inches. But now those 3 extra inches were gone, every snip of the scissors few curls of my hair would fall to the floor.
"Are you nervous for today, Stephanie?" She asked as she began to brush my hair.
"Yes." I said looking at my hands then sneaking another peek of the mirror and at my reflection. Today was the day, after lunch, that I would decide the coven I would belong to for the rest of my life. There would be an aptitude test and it would tell me which faction I belonged to.
My mother began to twist my hair as best she could. We had common features; the way our eyebrows arched, the hint of green in our eyes, the dimple we have to the left of our bottom lip. I had no idea where I got my long curly hair from, my mother didn't say, but I was sure she hated it. We didn't talk much after that, she just twisted my hair back into a bun and looked at me at the mirror one last time. I rose my eyes to hers, she gave me a small smile then put her hand on my shoulder.
"That's all you get." She said clicking the button that would seal the mirror closed for another 3 months.

"Come on Stephanie, we're going to be late." My brother, Lucas, said as we made our way to the Doppelgänger line. In school, each coven was divided. The coven of witches had their own classes, the pack of wolves. And..
The train screeched as people began to jump out, rolling on the grass or sprinting into line. They were the vampire, most of them were protecters and other were wild. My father even called them wild.
I looked over as a girl in blue, a werewolf, fell down. Her glasses fell off, Lucas bent down and handed them to her. She thanked him with a smile.
"Why didn't you help her?" Lucas asked as we got into line.
"Because I'm not like you.." I mumbled to myself.
I couldn't face him, because if I did it would remind me of another thing I would leave behind forever.

Each faction has their own colors; vampires wear black, doppelgängers wear gray, witches wear black and white, and werewolves wear blue. I looked over at the clock, my foot tapping impatiently as I chewed my thumbs to the meat. Any minute my test would start.
"Group H." Called a voice.
Myself and 5 others stood. We walked down the hall and each of us walked into an individual room. The walls were covered in mirrors, I looked back at my reflection.
"You doppelgängers and you're reflections." I looked over at a reclined metal chair. A tanned skin woman sat at a computer, her black hair down. Her eyes found mine.
"Sit." She said and I obeyed walking over to the chair. I slid into the seat and felt the cool metal through my clothes. She handed me a glass cup filled with a blue liquid. "Drink." She said looking back at the computer.
"What is it?" She eyed me, I bit my tongue. I shouldn't have spoke.
The blue liquid felt weird against my tongue, but besides that it tasted like nothing. I noticed a hawk tattoo on the back of her neck as she took the cup from me. She must've been a vampire.
"You'll be entering a simulation, once you wake up you're test will begin." I got one last look at the woman before closing my eyes. "Good luck."
