Chapter 31

February 5, 2019

Tuesday didn't go by any faster than Monday had and I hated every second of it. If anything, it had gone slower.

Cal, Tay and I were now seated at a picnic table outside of the local ice cream shop Kustards. Since mine and Noah's brief conversation yesterday, I have been nothing but moody. It looks like he has managed to ruin my mood for the rest of the week.

"How's the job hunting going?" Callie asks as she shoves a spoonful of her Green Tea ice cream into her mouth. I inwardly cringe. I've never known how she can eat that stuff.

Sucking in my lower lip, I shrug nonchalantly. "I've got three interviews lined up tomorrow. Although, I'm not sure if I've got the greatest chance seeing as I'll only have like four to five hours to work a day. All the homework we get is fucking ridiculous." I begin my everyday rant as I lick the Reese's ice cream that has started to melt down the waffle cone in my hands.

"Tell me about it. My boss told me, and I quote, "If you fall asleep on the job again, you won't have a job to fall asleep at." Can you believe that guy? I mean, I work until ten at night most weekdays. I work at a fucking book store for crying out loud! Employee's are bound to fall asleep." Irritation laces Taylor's tone as she stands up to throw away the napkins that were once wrapped around the Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream cone she just devoured.

I roll my eyes playfully and shrug. "You're the one who applied, Tay."

"Yeah," Callie pipes in quickly. "I've never seen you read a chapter book in my life, so why in the world did you think it was a good idea to work at a book store?"

I glance over at Cal with a curt nod. She had a point.

Taylor scoffs and takes a seat across from us. "I'd thought it'd be an easy job. And it would be if it wasn't for Mr. Dickhead who checks up on me every half hour."

I can't help but laugh obnoxiously.

"Oh, Lona did you apply for the position as a waitress at The Coffee Club? It would be so much fun if we worked together!" Callie's eyes widened in excitement and I couldn't help the huge smile that spread across my face.

"Yeah, I did actually. They have yet to contact me though."

Callie mindlessly started twirling the promise ring on her finger that has become a habit ever since Luke has given it to her.

"Oh, really? I'll ask Nancy about it tomorrow. I'm sure you'll get the job when she see's how responsible you are."

The Coffee Club is owned by Callie's aunt Nancy Wilson through marriage. She's in her late thirties and I've gotten the pleasure to met her a few times and she's a really sweet lady.

"I'd love you a ton if you could get her to hire me too," Taylor buts in with a desperation to her voice.

Callie follows Tay's earlier moves and gets up to throw her trash away. "Taylor, did you not hear me say that responsibility is apart of the job?" She laughs playfully as Taylor crosses her arms dramatically and pouts.

"I'll have you know, I've kept a job for three months before, so therefore I am very responsible, thank you."

These two girls next to me have somehow made me less grouchy in the span of twenty minutes and the smile on my face has yet to fall.

"I love you girls," I inform them as we all start to make our way to our cars.

"I love you too, girly."

"No need to get all sappy, I know I'm lovable. That's why everyone wants my company. I'm just that awesome."
