Chapter 1

October 19, 2018

"Why do you look so down?" Taylor asks from beside me. I shrug nonchalantly as I continue to doodle on the piece of paper in front of me. Taylor and I were currently in fourth period which was Biology with Mrs. Cleft. We were supposed to be taking notes, but instead I was ignoring everything the older lady in front of the class was talking about.

Today was just one of those days. It seemed like my emotions took a whirlwind on random days replacing my cheery mood with melancholy.

Taylor leaned closer to see what I was doodling only to have a piece of her dark brown hair fall in front of my view.  She quickly pulled away sighing.

"Hey, lunch is in fifteen minutes. After class let's drive over to Kathy's Urban Diner. What do you say?" I finally looked up at my best friend and give her a grateful smile. I know this was her attempt to cheer me up, but nothing in Harland, Colorado could cheer me up on these depressing days. Sure, it had quite a few touristy places, but no where I've never been.

Swallowing my pride, I nod and murmur quietly. "Sure, that sounds fine." Taylor sends me her frequent giddy smile and opens her mouth to say something but she never gets the chance. "Ms. Harber! Is there something you and Ms. Parker want to tell the class?" Mrs. Cleft snaps, glaring between the two of us.

Taylor rolls her eyes and sighs. "No Mrs. Cleft. I am so very sorry for interrupting precious class time. It won't happen again." More than half of the class tried and failed to stifle their giggles. That gave Taylor a boost of confidence and made her smirk.

Everyone knew that Taylor Harber was Cedarwood High's most smart-mouthed senior. Even the teachers were aware that she would sass back to anyone who would call her out in any way.

Mrs. Cleft marches straight over to our table and stares Taylor dead in the eyes. Of course, Tay doesn't back down. She just sits taller. "Was that sarcasm Ms. Harber?" the teacher snarls, pushing her glasses further up her nose.

Taylor cackles, mimicking Mrs. Cleft's movement and goes to push up her invisible glasses, but I reach for her arm. "No, Mrs. Cleft. We are sorry for disrupting the class," I blurt, gripping Taylor's arm a little tighter telling her to keep her mouth shut.

Mrs. Cleft seems to debate whether she should punish us or let it slide. After one last look at the both of us, she saunters back to the front of the class. "It better not happen again, girls."

When she continues the lesson, I finally let go of Taylor's arm. "Tay, I don't need a detention today, okay? Let's just get the last few minutes of class over with then we can leave."

Taylor mumbles incoherent words before turning to face the front of class. Just as I begin to start writing down all of the notes I've missed, my phone buzzed inside of my jean jacket.

Pulling it out cautiously, I click on the twitter notification.

Yeahhh! The first chapter is up! Most of the chapters will be about 500-800 words or so. This way, I can upload faster. I'm hoping I will be able to upload this short story twice a week and also upload a chapter of Lucky Number Four once a week too.

As I was re-reading it, I just got really excited. I am already very determined to post chapter two!

Anyway, let me know your thoughts in the comments! Share and vote if you enjoyed the first chapter!

Have an amazing day!<3

Attention: I made up all of the social media usernames in my head, they are not real.😜
