Chapter 22: The Beginning of the End
The next week consists of developing an entirely new identity. My face is now transformed into someone elses, Elle Anderson. My age is now twenty-two, and my hair has been died a natural red color. My eyes, instead of that dull stormy grey, are now a delicate brown. My facial structure has obviously changed, and I've been given new undergarments that change my body shape, giving my normally flat structure some more chest and hips than before. It's strange, assuming the identity of an entirely different person, but it's nice to escape the reality of your own life.
"Tobias, I have to leave in ten. Please come here." I request, looking in the mirror at this strange person. It doesn't feel like me in any way shape or form, but I know underneath this getup I'm still Beatrice Prior.
He walks up behind me and puts his arms around my small body, "I like Bea better than Elle."
I smile, turning my head to kiss his cheek, "Me too, but I think this is better. I'll be able to kill David myself if I want to."
"I don't think that's quite the goal here." Tobias laughs, nuzzling his head in my neck. I smirk, "Well if it comes down to it, I'll be the one who murders that son of a bitch with no remorse."
"Excuse me, lovebirds," Christina knocks at the door, causing us to break our embrace and turn to her.
I gasp, looking at her new look. Her hair, instead of being short and straight, is now is kinky curls that form an afro around her head. Her face, with each prosthetic, is more slimmed out than before. Her eyes are incredible, a deep violet color, and they make her whole look strikingly different. She was given clothing to change her body shape as well, except hers is flattened with binders.
"This look is so insane!" I exclaim, still gawking over the complexity of the transformation.
Tobias nods, "That does look crazy different."
"You should see what my clothing looks like. It's all preppy skirts, blouses and jumpsuits. I look like a thirty year old college professor!" She whines.
I laugh, shaking my head, "You're undercover, Christina, not going to the Grammy's."
"What about Tobias?" She asks, looking at him, "Why isn't he different?"
"I'll be doing brunt work here." He says, letting out an annoyed sigh, "They need me for transporting materials, lifting, and manual labor. Some of it will be stealing priceless chemicals, but that's no big deal."
"And I don't get to see him but once every two months during all of this." I groan.
He hugs me tighter, "And that will be the hardest part of all of this."
Matthew walks in, interrupting the conversation, "Ladies, it's about time to go."
I give Tobias a sweet kiss, letting it linger. "I'll miss you so much, babe."
"I'll miss you too Bea. I love you so much." Tobias whispers.
With one last hug, Christina and I walk out with Matthew and some bags. We each have a trap phone, which with our advanced technology, will be hidden with invisibility until we touch it. Christina's clothes are more preppy, and make her seem older, whereas as mine seem more young, while still maintaining a professional vibe.
"What are your names, agents?" Matthew drills, as we march through the maze of a compound.
"Elle Anderson." I respond.
"Shaylee Myers." Christina says.
"Where did you come from, agents?" He asks.
"Milwaukee." I say.
"New York." Christina replies.
"Excellent. Are you ready?" He inquires, his voice now caring.
I let out a breath, "I'm more than ready."
"Ditto." Christina adds.
We get up to the top of the compound, which opens into the woods. There, a car is waiting for us. This is it. A year, and David will be rotting in jail. This is the beginning of the end.
------------------------------------
An hour car ride is a long time for a teenager. Especially when she's impatient.
"We're almost there, right?" Christina whines.
"We're almost to my host family. You still have another fifteen to get to yours." I correct.
She groans, "This is taking way too long."
The driver slows down, stopping in front of a huge home. It looks cozy on the lawn, gnomes, neat grass and a garden, but the house looks grandiose and modern.
"This is your stop, Prior."
I let out a breath, "I'm going to miss you, Chrissy."
"I'll miss you too." She pulls me into a bone crushing hug, the last until we both get jobs with David.
I exit the car, and grab my bags. As I approach the home, the door swings open, "You must be B-Elle! Elle!" An older woman, maybe in her forties, walks out of the door.
I sneak one last smile at Christina before they drive away, leaving me to the warm embrace of my fake mother. "Hello Amy!"
She grabs one of my bags, leading up the stone path to the front door. "I'm excited for you to be with us, and helping us with the... situation."
"Me too," My tone is immediately a bit more serious, "It's close to me and I'm eager to help."
We step into the front door, and I'm greeted by a huge foyer. An intricate chandelier hangs at the top, and there are very few decorations. At the end, it leads to a huge staircase to the upstairs.
"If you'll follow me, I'll bring you to your room in the east wing." Amy starts climbing up the steps, and I follow in awe.
We go to a room at the end of the east wing, that is at least three times the size of any room I've ever had in my life. The bed is in the center of the room, and there is a canopy over the top. The sheets are black with white designs, as are the curtains. There is a black vanity and chair to one side, and a white dresser on the other. The closet is a walk in, and already has a couple extra outfits in it.
"I could help you unpack, if you'd like?" Amy offers, setting the bag on the bed. I offer a small grin, "That would be lovely."
I set my suitcase next to the bag she set down and unzip it, revealing the many assigned outfits. We make small talk as we hang up the clothing, something normal family might do. I have some stuff from my friends and Tobias hidden in the bag, which I get to first.
"What are those, love?" Amy asks, watching me quickly snatch a notebook.
I tilt back a little, "Just some writings from my boyfriend. I put notes he has written me in here, just for a little reminder."
"Did Matthew approve that?" She asks, watching me shove it in the back of a drawer.
I laugh, shaking my head, "I have a lot he didn't approve. He can't really just say no to me."
She thinks for a second, "Oh, you're.."
"Yeah. Six." I smile, going back to the bags.
Amy puts some of my personal belongings in the drawer, helping me hide them. I put a couple blankets in to cover them up, and finish getting the rest of my things put away.
"I am going to make some chicken and rice for dinner. I can let you have some time alone to explore the house, if you'd like?" She offers, heading for the door.
"That would be wonderful. When will your daughter and husband get here?" I ask, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"They'll be here in fifteen minutes or so. I hope you can warm up to our home soon." She walks down the stairs, leaving me to have some alone time.
