Chapter 34
The car rumbles into the parking lot, right next to a massive water park. There are dozens of slides and families running in and out of the gates, creating a sense of excitement.
"Let's get going!" I exclaim, dragging Blake and his guard, Arnold, out of the car.
The sounds of ecstatic screams fill the air. Excitement is bubbling up inside of me, I haven't gotten to do something this fun with Blake in weeks.
"Wait up Nat!" Blake calls after me, as I run up to the entrance.
I laugh, stopping at the check in near the front. Arnold catches up with us, holding our passes. This day is even more exciting, they have guards stationed around the park, because there are many visiting divergent's, so we don't have to be followed around by nosy guards the entire time.
When we get inside the noisy park, Blake and I find a table to set our things down. I place my towel, sunscreen, and other belongings on one, right next to Arnold. He motions for us to sit down next to him, which we oblige to.
"Remember, we have guards stationed in many place throughout the park today, so don't worry about safety. There are many Divergent's here, so feel free to mingle. Stay away from suspicious characters, as usual, and remember, stay cautious." He explains, in his thick German accent.
"We will Arnold, I promise." Blake responds for the both of us.
I stand up, nodding in agreement. We help each other with sunscreen, knowing we will be in the bright rays most of the day.
"Thanks." I mumble, rubbing the sunscreen on my arm.
We walk to the first ride, which has a short line, only four people.
"I can't believe we can finally do something without my overbearing father breathing down my neck, or a guard nipping at our heels." I laugh, leaning on the rail.
"Of course, anything for you Natalie." He grins cheekily.
I giggle., for a moment just happy. Happy for a guy I can still call my friend. Happy for someone who loves me as I am. Happy without caring that I'm different, because so is he.
Blake is still flashing that bright smile, sending chills down my spine. The guard starts letting people down again, starting with a boy that screams louder than a little girl. I laugh, watching the bottom as he pops out.
The next girl reminds me of Aunt Lynn, she doesn't make a noise, falls out of the bottom, and shrugs. I look at the lifeguard, noticing another man in darker clothes. He sees me staring, and quickly winks. He must be one of the guards.
The next two go, both laughing like maniacs. My stomach flops as I realize it's now our turn.
"Are you two going together?" He asks, as I pull my hand out of Blake's.
Blake smiles at me, and nods, "Yeah, sure."
"Alright, ma'am, you sit down first, then sir, put your legs around her. Put your arms over her and hold on tight!"
We follow his instructions, and water rushes into the tube, almost pushing me in. The droplets splatter up onto our faces.
"Ready kids?" He asks, checking the bottom.
I nod, "I think so."
The lifeguard counts us off, "Three, Two, One."
Our bodies fall down the tube, and I scream and laugh as water splashing into my face. Blake is only laughing at my reaction, causing my face to turn bright red. The tube is steep, making my stomach drop.
We plunge into the pool at the end, still laughing.
"Great job screaming Nat!" Blake chuckles, giving me a hug.
I roll my eyes, blushing, "Yeah, well don't blame me!"
He slings an arm across my shoulder as we walk over to the lazy river, "Maybe this is more your style."
I punch his side, "My style is more... eating. Do you want to grab some pizza?"
Blake shrugs, turning directions, "Why not?"
We go back to our table, grab a few bucks, and go to the small restaurant inside the water park. It serves mostly what you would describe as carnival food, ice cream, soda's, pizza, hot dogs, and a few other treats, like pretzels and nachos.
We order a small pizza to share between the three of us, and a few fountain drinks. Carefully, Blake brings it over to where Arnold sits with our things.
I slip into the seat, sipping off of my drink.
"Thank you kids." Arnold says, taking a piece of the pizza.
I dig in as well, picking up two pieces of the cheesy pizza. It's actually pretty good for water park food, and it doesn't take long for Blake and I to finish eating.
"Now we can go on the lazy river." I laugh.
"I knew we would be there at some point!" He chuckles, grabbing my hand.
We stroll over to the lazy river, grabbing a two person tube. I sit in the smaller side, Blake in the larger.
"You always have to be in a tube, if you come out, grab one if you can. Don't drift off of the path." The lifeguard instructs, grabbing the side of our tube.
"This is better." I sigh, running my hand through the water.
Blake grins, "You are adorable. I told you that you were more of a lazy river type."
I blush, "Not really, but I don't think we can go on the slides right after eating."
He laughs, "Oh, sure."
I wave across the water, using my elements to grab a giant water droplet. With a swift movement, Blake is soaked.
He laughs, kicking water at me.
I throw a snowball formed in my hand at him, which he melts.
"Stop doing that in the water!" Someone yells at us.
I bust out laughing, making Blake laugh at my snorts. We keep kicking water at one another through the entire river, actually feeling relaxed. I barely remember at the end that we have to get off of the raft, so Blake flips it over.
My body plunges into the water, surprised.
"Seriously Blake?" I squeal, popping up from the water.
He laughs hysterically, giving me a hand to exit the river.
"Where to next? And this time, I won't flip your raft over." Blake asks, as we walk to the slides.
I look around, seeing one that looks rather interesting. It's two slides, and it curves around trees, along with having some dim areas. The water rushes out of the bottom into a shallow pool.
"How about that?" I suggest, extending my arm to point at it.
Blake shrugs, "Looks fun."
We walk over to the line, which isn't excessively long.
"What's this called anyways?" Blake asks, glancing around.
I look for the name, before seeing it posted on the rules board. Jumanji is written in rough paint, made to look like wood.
I pick at my nail as the line moves, slower than the last slide.
"Next?" The lifeguard calls, motioning us forward.
I look over the edge of the slide, getting butterflies in my stomach.
"If you don't look it will be less scary." Blake insists, pulling me towards the top of the slides.
I breath out, "It's okay, I'm Dauntless."
We each sit at the entrance to a slide, the water pooling around our legs.
"Ready?" We grab the bars above our heads.
"1...2..." The both of us move back to launch.
"3!"
I push off into the slide, simultaneously screaming and laughing. Blake's laugh is heard all the way over here, which I find a bit comforting.
The water splashes at my sides, soaking my entire body. It starts turning a dark corner, when all of the sudden, I stop.
I feel around me, poking something in the eye.
"What the hell?" I yell, kicking whatever it is.
"So you're the little monster they created." The person sneers.
I scream out for help, but there is nobody.
"Who are you?" I shout, readying a ball of flames on my hand.
"Let's just say, your parents owe me." He sneers.
The moment happens so quick I barely register what's happening. One second water is pooling around my body, the next I'm falling through the air, helpless.
Wind flies past my body, whipping my hair into my face. The slide collapses, which is what's sending me falling fifty feet from the air.
Desperate, I throw a vine out from my hand, but it's too late. My body smacks into the pavement, and everything turns...
Red.
