Chapter 33
Once we return from from the beach, I get into the shower to wash off the seaweed caught in my bikini. The shower isn't heated much, but feels hot against my newly tanned skin.
When I get out, I blow dry my hair and put it in a ponytail. I slip on a navy blue tank white shorts, and long socks, and head downstairs for dinner. I'm greeted with a very...awkward scene.
Mom and Dad are kissing on the couch, like, really passionately. I resist the urge to throw up, still gagging, and throw my hand over my eyes, "God guys! No PDA This is a PG vacation!"
Mom laughs, and the couch creaks, meaning somebody probably got up. I uncover my eyes, and sigh in relied as I see Mom heading towards the kitchen.
I try to erase the image from my head, and plop down on the recliner. Dad tosses me the remote before heading to his room. I flip through channels, before I find reruns of some show called, America's Next Top Model.
It's about a bunch of models bring judged by a host, Tyra banks. They do different competitions, so it's basically just a generic reality show. The show isn't bad at all, but nothing on the television catches my attention. I end up texting Blake while the show plays in the background.
Hey
Hey Babe
Wyd? I just got out of the shower and I'm bored :/
Ur in Florida, how r u bored?
We already did stuff today doof, we are in the suite rn.
Wth, u should've at least stayed until sunset. U atleast got a tan, right?
I did, of course. Besides tanning and boogie boarding what else is there to do?
Duh! Durf, swim, bury people, make a sandcastle, play with twins?
-_-
Well, anyways, gtg, ttyl
Bye
I click my power button on and off, stuck in a state of perepetual boredom. Waiting for something to happen. Silence. Silence. Silence.
"What's for dinner?" I yell, bored of myself.
"Chicken Fettuccine!" Mom yells back.
I lay down on the couch, bored out of my mind. The twins are napping, so I can't play with them, and Blake obviously can't talk. My eyes are about to drift shut when a sharp knock at the door rings through the suite. I jump up from the couch, and head over to the door.
When it swings open, I squeal, finding Blake and his Mom standing in the doorway.
I practically knock him over, while jumping on him. my legs are around his waist and I'm hugging him.
"Hey Nat!" He chuckles, hugging me.
"Oh my goodness, life is boring without you to annoy!" I joke, as I get down.
"I can say the same to you, but again, you're in Florida! How in the world are you bored?"
I shrug, "I don't know, it just happens."
We plop down on the love seat, hand in hand.
Dad walks in, and glares at me with a don't do anything weird look.
I roll my eyes, leaning closer to Blake. He grabs the remote, and turns on a movie called, "Terminator."
It's interesting, about a robot from the future trying to kill a man.
Out movie is interrupted by Mom yelling, "Dinner!"
We all rush into the kitchen, but just to my luck, I go sliding across the tile, falling flat on my ass. A sharp pain spreads through my tailbone, and I screech.
"Are you okay?" Blake asks, lending me a hand.
"I'm fine." I mumble, standing up. He puts a supportive arm around my waist, until he gets a glare from Dad.
He helps me back over to the love seat, but it makes me feel helpless.
"I'll get our food and an ice pack." Blake says, giving me a smile.
I nod, "Thanks Blake."
He heads over to the kitchen , while I sit there rethinking all of my life choices. It's like everything embarrassing happens when I am around Blake. Then again, I have the luck of somebody who walks on cracks under ladders with a black cat, so it's expected.
He returns with two bowls of the pasta, and an ice pack. I place the ice on my back, as he plops down beside me. I twirl the pasta onto my fork, and shove it in my mouth. Mom has always been the best at cooking, even when she just got food supplies for a week, and she can pull anything together.
"This is good Mom!" I say between a mouthful of noodles, earning a couple laughs.
I finish my food when the movie ends, coincidental timing, and bring my bowl to the kitchen .My ass is sore from falling, but I'll be fine. I sit back down beside Blake, laying against him so we both fit comfortably, but receiving death glares from Dad. His overprotective nature kind of amuses me, but it can get in the way.
I relax as we watch the next movie that comes on, Mall Cop. It's pretty funny, and I am enjoying it.
"How about we go get some desert?" Dad asks, about haflway through.
"What did Mom get for it?" I ask, standing up and stretching.
She smiles, "I got ice cream, because the twins wanted it. I'll go wake them up."
She and Blake's mom go over to the girls, while I run to the freezer and take out the flavors. There is a plain vanilla, chunky peanut butter, and triple fudge. There is also a load of toppings, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, a variety of sprinkles, and some fruits.
I fill my bowl with peanut butter ice cream, and cover it in chocolate syrup and sprinkles. I'm the first to eat, and the others follow after me. I sit on the floor, so everybody can fit on the couches, and Blake sits beside me. His bowl is filled with the triple fudge ice cream and all of the chocolate toppings.
"I guess you have a knack for chocolate?" I joke, stealing a bite from his bowl.
He puts a hand to his chest, mock hurt, "It's like you don't even know me!"
I smirk, "Hardy har."
Ashlen and Eliza each get a half scoop of vanilla, which they mostly mush on since they are not even a year old yet. Mom used, "The girls wanted it" as an excuse to get herself ice cream, and I don't blame her.
I dig into the bowl of cold, delicious dessert, still wishing it was Dauntless cake. Mom is spoon feeding the girls, who laugh in delight at the chilly, sugary treat. They probably like the cold on their teething gums.
Suddenly, Ashlen start screaming, and plops her hand in the ice cream, which makes her scream more.
Eliza laughs at her sister, which in turn makes Ashlen laugh back. The little kids are getting sugar high. I watch in amusement as they start flinging ice cream at Dad and Mom, and each time the bowl is taken away, they scream.
By the time the movie ends, we are all finished eating, but my parents are trying desperately to calm the happy babies. I grab every bodies bowls, and head to the kitchen. Blake follows, and we wash the dishes from dessert and dinner, together.
"Thanks, I'm sure the adults have their hands full with the demon children." I laugh, watching as a random rock is formed in mid air, and thrown at Dad.
Life's never dull when you have twin babies...with powers.
"Absolutely, I'd rather be helping here than there." He chuckles.
By the time we finish cleaning up, the clock reads 9:30. I sit on the love seat, still enjoying the Ashlen and Eliza on Sugar Show.
They are starting to crash, so they attempt to play, but their pudgy little arms fall down. Eliza's head falls to the side, and her eyes flutter closed. Ashlen sees her sister is tired, so she sets her head down to.
"Thank goodness." Mom whispers, picking up Ash.
"I thought that would never end." Dad adds, picking up Ellie.
"It's bedtime for anyone younger than me!" Mom announces.
"We're fourteen!" Blake and I yell in unison.
Well, in a few days I'm fourteen.
Mom sighs, "Fine, just bedtime for the babies!"
Blake and I offer to take the little one's up to bed so the adults can talk for a bit.
"Come on!" I motion down the short corridor.
Blake holds Ash, bouncing her ever so lightly. We go to their room, and I start changing out Ellie's diaper. Blake sets down a mat and starts changing Ashlen's.
"So, do you guys travel to places like often?" He asks.
I shake my head, "First time since I was a toddler."
He nods in response. We finish with the girls, and lay them down in the cribs. They are out like lights, hopefully for more than six hours.
Blake and I head downstairs, having a seat in the same place. Mom changes the channel to some reality show channel, TLC, and we stay up. We all laugh over small jokes, carrying on meaningless conversations through the night.
At about 1:30, Blake and his mom decide to go to their hotel room. Since their room is on the same floor, I walk with the family.
"I got us passes for some redone water park tomorrow." Blake says, his hand in mine.
"Any parents?" I ask, knowing they are insanely annoying when we go on dates.
"Nope, just Arnold." He says.
I sigh, somehow wishing we didn't have to have a guard with us.
"By the way," I start, "Did my mom know you two were coming?"
She did seem to make more food than usual, and wasn't surprised.
He nods, sending a smile across my cheeks. This family always knows what to do to make me happy.
