Chapter 16

Recap:

We all climb onto the rock in front. Uncle Uriah  and Dad stand in front, then Mom and I, and lastly Nadia and Samantha.

We pull back the lichen, revealing the last thing we ever expected.

Ok back to the chapter

There are 2 large metal doors, one with a sign reading "Teens", and the other "Adults."

"What the hell is this?" Dad examines the doors.

I walk forward slowly, careful of my surroundings. My hand traces over the door. There is a pattern carved over the worn metal. I recognize it as the old faction symbols.

"Dad, I think this is safe." I mumble. I brush off the moss, revealing a small door knocker.

"Can I?"

"I guess." Dad backs up behind me. I knock, and almost instantly the door swings open.

"Hellooooo divergents!" A loud man yells as we step in. I laugh,"What is this?"

"Well only the finest most exciting divergent teen club, brought to you by the DPA! Teen Vibe! Your adult buddies should go over there, while your gal pals can follow me! Don't worry about anything, I promise we wont hurt you!" He explains.

This is all so...odd. But, I go with it.

"Dad?" I ask.

He nods, trusting this off situation.

I grab the girls hands as we walk in, amazed at our surroundings. "Everything you could possible need is provided, just ask staff. Have fun!"

I look around, finding all kinds of rooms. Altogether, there is a giant buffet, a game room with all sorts of devices, a TV room with a gigantic HD screen, and an arcade with pool, airhockey, a pool, ticket counters, and all sorts of other things.

This is all so amazing! "What do you guys want to do first?" I ask Nadia and Sam. Sam walks off before she can say anything.

"Well, what do you want to do?" I laugh, asking Nadia again.

"First let's dry off a little, then, I could eat, let's go check out what they have." Nadia answers, leading the way to the buffet.
We grab towels, and pat dry. Then, we grab plates and look over the food. I grab a hot dog, crackers and some cheese cubes.

We sit down on a couch away from the crowd, focused only on food. When I finish, we actually talk about how weird this situation is.

"Isn't it so confusing how this place just popped up? How we happened to be in the right place?" Nadia says, glancing at all the teens dancing around.

"I know, but we might as well enjoy it!" I respond, standing up.

"Do you want to play some air hockey?" She suggests, walking over to the game room.

"Sure."

We reserve the air hockey table for an hour, figuring someone else can take the rest of our time.

"Ready to lose?" Nadia smirks.
"That's such a funny joke!" I reply with an evil look.
*silence*
"You couldn't think of a comeback could you." I laugh.

She looks down, embarrassed.

We start playing, and it quickly gets mean. Nadia hits way too hard, making the puck fly in the air once or twice. Still, I manage to win both games, leaving Nadia whining in defeat.

I realize it got so intense I started sweating bad. "I'll be right back, I need to wash my face off." I tell Nadia, walking over to the bathroom.

I dampen a paper towel, and wipe off my face. I look in the mirror, making sure everything looks ok, since I am still in a bikini.

Finally, I start to walk out. As soon as I step out from the hall I run into what feels like a wall. I fall flat on my butt, laughing.

A strong arm pulls me up in one swing. I glance up, seeing an incredibly handsome boy, with piercing blue eyes.

He laughs nervously, scratching his neck,"Um...thanks. You are very gorgeous too."

I freeze for a second, until it sinks in. "Holy shit... did I say that out loud?" I giggle uncontrollably. The color of my cheeks would put tomatoes to shame.

"Don't blush, it makes you look even cuter." He winks.
Of course, I blush even harder.

"Just... thank you." Gosh I probably look like a lovesick child.

He smiles again,"So what's your name?...Gorgeous."

"Natalie, and yours?"

"Blake." We stand there in silence for a minute. This whole moment I have been speechless, mainly because a hot guy called me gorgeous.

"So, um, do you want to go watch a movie or something?" He asks, nodding his head towards the TV room.

"Sure, just let me go tell my cousin." I run over faster than I ever have before, catching my breath for a second in front of Nadia, saying,"Super cute boy. Wants to hang out. See you later."

I hear her laugh as I run back. He smiles, and grabs my hand,"Shall we?"

"We shall."

Surprisingly, there are only three or four people in here, and they are on their phones.

"Do you like this movie?" He asks, pointing at the screen.

I recognize it as one of my Moms old favorites, The Fault in Our Stars.
The actress of Hazel Grace looks very similar to my mom, I wonder if she is one of our ancestors.

"I love it." I respond. We sit in the middle of the couch awkwardly, by each other. I lean back, relaxing a little.

I pay more attention to the tension between us than the movie. Finally, he makes a small move. He puts his arm over my shoulder. I smile to myself, leaning onto his arm a little. A catch a a glimpse of his nervous smile from the side of my eye.

"Natalie, I was wondering, are you staying at the safe house?" Blake asks, sounding hopeful.

"Yeah I am. We are in one of the larger apartments towards the back." I explain.

"That's weird, so am I. I wonder how we haven't seen each other yet." He replies.

I shrug, not really knowing what else to say.

I finally pay attention to the movie, realizing we are getting to the saddest part. I can feel a lump in my throat when we get to the part with Gus at his own funeral.

I lay my head on Blake's shoulder, not even caring now. He rubs my arm, seeming as if he knows what's coming. Then it happens,"Augustus Waters died on..."

I don't even listen to the rest, I just start letting tears rain down from my eyes. I have never been able to get through this movie without crying, and I  feel so embarrassed sobbing in front of a cute guy I just met.

Surprisingly, he comforts me. I find it funny, considering how easily being kindhearted comes to him. Now this is the kind of guy I want. Was that overly dramatic? I think so. But I don't give a crap. He is a nice guy no matter what.

"Natalie!" I hear someone yell from behind me.

I dart my head around, seeing Nadia stare at me with a suspicious look on her face.

"What is this?" She points to Blake's arm, still wrapped around my shoulder.

"I..." I stand up, blushing," It's not bad. We were just watching TFIOS and he was being nice and comforting me!"

She looks skeptical,"You better be telling the truth, or your ass is grass. You are as good as dead if Aunt Tris and Uncle Toby ever figure out a boy your age even came within an inch of you! You are lucky I am your friend!"

I laugh,"Thank you Nadia. I was thinking we could head over to the arcade if you wanna join?"

Blake stands up, going to hold open the door.

"Absolutely."

We walk over to the arcade, and go over first to a basketball shooting game called "Hoop Fever"

I play against Nadia first, epically winning. Then Blake and I go, and we are pretty close the entire game... until he trips on a rolling bouncy ball and I get in a few extra shots.

I laugh,"Ha! A girl beat you at your own game!"

He smirks,"What makes you think I play basketball?"

"Well... erm. You are really tall, and muscular... and..." I trail off, staring at my shoes as I blush profusely.

He laughs,"It's ok Nat, you are pretty bangin yourself."

Of course, this only makes me feel even more nervous, like there is a butterfly garden living in my stomach. No other guy has ever made me this nervous, why him? Why now?

After a few more games, we head over to the pool area. I sit at the edge for a minute, my feet swinging in the water.

I glance behind me, just in time to see Blake slipping off his shirt. How can a 13 year old be so hot?

He dives in cleanly, and pops up next to me. "Jump in Natalie! We can play Marco Polo or something."

I just plop into the water right in front of me, and float on my back for a minute. I spot Nadia laying on a chair a few feet away.

"Come on! Get in!" I yell to her.

She shrugs,"I'd rather not. Not my thing."

I get a little idea for a joke, something to lighten her mood.

"Fine but can you help me out for a second." I ask, holding out my arm.

She rolls her eyes,"Fine."

When she puts her hand in mine, I flip her over and she goes tumbling into the pool. Blake and I both laugh as she huffs.

"Natalie!" She pouts.

I laugh,"Sorry not sorry!"

Having these little moments with my friends has really been making things alot easier, especially in this bad situation.
