Chapter 12
We see someone jump out from the distance, and he is holding a gun. "Mom watch out!" I scream, jumping in front of her.
She yells at me, and I hear the click and bang of the gun. We both brace for impact, closing our eyes... but... nothing hits us.
"What the fuck?" I hear the man yell. I open my eyes. "Mom, it didn't hit!" I say, looking in front of me. There is a sheild, seemingly made of wind, keeping the bullet from proceeding.
"Go Natalie go!" Mom yells.
We both jump out, and the shield disappears. It falls to the ground, all of it's movement stopped. "Behind the wall, run Natalie!"
We sprint to the wall, and the man comes after us. I don't even look, I just blast fire. It's so weird. The feeling you get when you have this power, but you are using it to hurt someone.
I hear screams, and I stop. The guard lays on the floor, unconscious. "Natalie we have to go." Mom urges, pushing me past him.
If he wasn't trying to kill us I would probably have helped him. We run farther up, until we hear voices from ahead. "Shh." Mom holds a finger to her mouth
I peek over the edge of a door, happy for what I see. "Dad!"
I run out hugging him tight. Mom gives him a kiss. "Hey honey, I brought a few of us." He says. Uncle Zeke, Uncle Uriah, Aunt Marlene and Shauna, And Aunt Lynn and Lauren.
"Yes! Let's hurry!" I insist. We jog quietly toward and exit. We manage to dodge some of the guards.
Once we get there, dad hands me a small gun. "Just in case." I nod,"Thanks dad."
I hold it in one hand, my other ready to attack. Dad locks open the door.
We are met with dozens of guards, barking out orders. As soon as one notices, the shooting start. Mom and I try to freeze all of the bullets to stop them. I hate to do it, but I conjure up rocks, throwing them at people, burning others.
The screams are almost too much to bear. I stop for just a second, and take a breath. I feel a sharp pain in my arm. I am so filled with adrenaline I choose to ignore it.
"Natalie, help!" Dad screams. A gun is pointed at his head. I run as fast as I ever had, ramming into her stomach. She screams, obviously.
I wrap vines around her, and take her gun. "Don't ever mess with my family." She sits there, trying to get up unsuccessfully.
I run over to Mom,"How many are left?"
"Maybe a dozen."
As she says that someone charges, and I freeze my fist, and punch him in the head,"He's out."
Mom gives me a quick high five,"Awesome."
I spot the others, and don't see many people left. Dad runs over to me, as soon as the last guard is down.
"Natalie. You're bleeding." Dad says, bringing up my arm.
"I think it was just a bad scratch, it doesn't hurt much.
"Natalie, you're bleeding a lot. I-I think that's a gunshot. Wrap it. Now." Mom says.
I remember someone tearing off the edge of their shirt, and the feeling of fabric against my arm. But... I also remember my legs crumbling beneath me. The feeling of being drained before I fall into the all too familiar feeling of pitch black nothingness.
