{midnight drives}

Seated in the living room of the District Unknown base was Hoseok, Namjoon and Seokjin. Across from them sat Daisy, foot tapping up and down impatiently as she held her nail between her teeth. She had woken up to the boys at her door, so now in her slightly disheveled state, she awaited the news she knew had long been coming.

"So?" She piped up, fiddling with her hands in her lap, "Is this what I think it is?"

Hoseok gave her a look of remorse, watching as the girl struggled to sit still. It was a rude awakening to say the least, Daisy still in her colourful pyjama pants and loosely fitted hoodie as her tangled mess of curly hair fell softly over her shoulders. He sighed as he brought out his laptop, sliding it onto his lap before lifting the screen, "It is..." he replied softly, but to Daisy it felt like his words were loud, echoing in her ears.

"Shit this is actually happening." She muttered quickly, turning her gaze away from Hoseok as she drew in a deep breath, "It's been so long..."

"Look." Seokjin spoke up, "I get that you're nervous, after all, District Unknown has been in hiding for so many years... coming back to re-surface is a bold move."

Daisy drew her lower lip between her teeth, "This has to work... or both of our groups will pay the price."

Namjoon clasped his hands on his lap, "We'll make this work." There was a pause as he locked eyes with the girl, his stern expression softening as his lips momentarily lifted into a smile of reassurance, "The plan is already coming along nicely."

From leader to leader, Daisy felt herself relax, her jittering slowing as she regained her composure. She drew in a calm breath, pausing before letting it out, "I think I just need to take a breather." She scrunched her hair in her hands, "This is a really big move."

It hit her all at once, how everything was riding on her shoulders. Eun-ha had given her life for the safe survival of District Unknown and here she was about to face the Jeons herself. Just the thought made her stomach twist.

Still watching from afar, Hoseok couldn't help but hold his breath as Daisy rested her head in her hands, her usual sunny expression painted over by one of fear. Wordlessly, he sent a glance towards Namjoon and Seokjin, mouthing a few words before receiving a nod from the pair. The two men slowly took off, leaving Hoseok and Daisy alone in the dimly lit living room.

Silently, Hoseok slipped his computer aside, standing to his feet and making his way over to Daisy. The couch sunk as he took a seat beside the girl, resting a gentle hand against her shoulder, "I get how you feel... I mean-" He paused, taking in a breath as his eyes flickered to the ceiling. His gaze lingered there as he drew his lower lip between his teeth, "I'm scared shitless."

Daisy's eyes widened a little as she watched Hoseok's calm demeanour slowly break apart, "You are?"

He gave a nod of his head before his eyes flickered back to meet with hers, "I am." Hoseok's hand slipped off her shoulder as he began to fiddle with his fingers, "After all... this is all because of my debt-"

Hoseok was cut off as Daisy grabbed a firm hold of his hands, rubbing soothing circles against his palms, "It's not your fault... just our stubbornness." She heaved out a sigh, "You're innocent in all of this. No one asked you to take up Eunha's debt, it was forced on you..."

Hoseok let out an airy chuckle, "It's not like you guys had a choice either." He said, squeezing Daisy's smaller hands in his own, "You didn't ask to go into hiding, it must've been tough... and it'll sure as hell be even tougher re-surfacing."

Daisy's expression changed, her lush green eyes falling hazy as her lower lip momentarily twitched in a tremble. She just stopped and stared at Hoseok, but Hoseok could tell she was zoning out because her gaze was almost blank. Daisy was worn out, the stress had hit her far too quickly and Hoseok was starting to worry he shouldn't of reminded her of the task to come... that he shouldn't of reminded her of his sister, or the banquet, or anything. But then he felt a squeeze on his hands, his attention shooting back to the girl at his side as she slipped back into the present moment,

She gulped, expression still unreadable, "Do you have a car?"

"Um... I-"

Her eyes bore into his own, only this time there was a sparkle in them, "A car-"

"Oh um... yeah?" He loosened his hold on her hands, "But why-"

Daisy tugged him up from the lounge, Hoseok's feet stumbling and tripping over the floor as she quickly pulled him towards the entrance. Although she was small, her grip was mighty as she pushed open the front door, the crisp midnight air prickling at their skin as they made their way outside. Hoseok parted his lips to speak but was interrupted by Daisy stopping them both at the roadside, letting go of him only to place her hands against her hips, "Which one's yours?"

Still starstruck, Hoseok gave a hesitant gesture towards the one parked neatly against the roadside, "It's that one-"

She stuck out her hand, "Keys?"

"What-"

"Shall I spell it out for you-"

"No wait... we're driving somewhere?"

Her lips momentarily twitched into a grin before falling flat again, "Yes so will you-"

"-Okay but I'm driving." Hoseok muttered with a sigh, pushing past the girl as he fished inside his pocket for his keys.

Behind him Daisy's smile returned, the girl giddy with excitement as she quickly followed Hoseok down to the car. The curls of her hair tangled in the soft breeze as she made her way to the passenger seat, the headlights of the car flashing as it became unlocked and she swung her way inside.

They both slammed the doors shut, clipping on their seat-belts before Hoseok rested his hands against the steering wheel. The car was silent, the steady breaths of the pair almost amplified as neither of them spoke a word.

Hoseok found his eyes flickering over to the girl, studying her curious expression. He smirked, "Someone seems happy all of a sudden..."

Daisy flinched once she realised a stupid grin was spread right across her face, and noticing Hoseok's cocky expression she was quick to wipe it off, "Shut up~" she mumbled under her breath, earning a small laugh from Hoseok as the mood lightened in an instant.

He took one hand off the wheel as he turned to face her, "So... where to on this fine wintry night~" He spoke grandly, gesturing towards the dark scenery like an idiot. But Daisy still found herself chuckling at the male,

"Lets just drive." She spoke confidently, earning a frown from Hoseok.

"Just drive?"

"Yeah." She said, "Lets just drive around the city for a bit."

Pursing his lips, Hoseok fell silent as he turned his gaze back to the road ahead. The streets were dimly lit by the pools of light from the street lamps, the occasional howl of the wind picking up suggesting that a storm could be brewing. He simply shrugged, slotting his keys into the ignition, "Whatever you say." He said, bringing the engine to life as he steered away from the curb and onto the empty roads.

The tires hissed over the asphalt, the occasional pot hole causing the pair to jitter in their seats as they sat in silence speeding down the highway. Hoseok couldn't help but tap a finger against the steering wheel, eyes momentarily flickering over to the girl in the passenger seat.

Each time the car passed under a streetlight Daisy's face would come aglow, giving Hoseok a small window to read her expression. She appeared troubled, a frown on her face but it was obvious to him that she was more at ease then before, her eyes reflecting the lights of the passing cars as she leaned against the door, gaze cast out the window in reflection.

Clearing his throat, Hoseok decided to speak up, "Why a midnight drive?"

Daisy jumped back up into a straighter position, "Huh?"

Hoseok chuckled as he watched her startled state, "What's so good about driving around in the middle of the night?"

Expecting a long answer, Hoseok was surprised when he was met by a shrug, "Don't know... some things just make me feel better."

Hoseok parted his lips, mouthing out a small, 'ahh I see,' before his eyes traveled back over the road. He understood what she meant. Distractions were a nice thing, but even though she was trying to calm herself down, oddly enough it just seemed like her thoughts were becoming amplified in the silence. So Hoseok did what he knew he did best...

He turned on the radio

Peaking her interest, Daisy watched as Hoseok kept one hand on the wheel, reaching over to turn on some music. The male turned up the volume, the thumping of the base ringing through her ears and pulling her out from her thoughts.

She furrowed her brows, "Why music?"

With a smug smirk, Hoseok brushed a thumb against his lip, "Don't know..." he turned to face her, "Some things just make me feel better~"

Watching the male's cocky expression, Daisy's jaw hung open, "Oh... so we're playing that game now are we?"

Hoseok didn't reply, instead melting into the music as he hummed to the song. Daisy watched as Hoseok's expression shifted into one of enjoyment, tuning out of the world sat a man with tousled black hair. His hum had a happiness; there was something carefree about the notes as they fell into the cold air about him. He tightened his grip on the wheel, fingers splayed about as he steered. Daisy just sat in silence, no intention of disturbing him, soaking in the sound.

A full minute passed before Hoseok's humming turned into faint words, then into a bright song as he sang along. And for some strange reason, Daisy found herself wearing the most goofy of smiles as she listened to his voice. There was something about it. It wasn't the classical perfect singing voice most singers had, it was a little raspy, joyful and full of energy. So parting her lips, this time Daisy found herself singing along too.

Noticing the new voice, Hoseok giggled in the middle of the song, happy that the girl beside him had finally joined in. Her voice was as sweet as that tender smile she gave as she sung, and Hoseok had to keep his composure as he forced his gaze to remain on the road ahead.

The pair goofed around as they drove down the highway, talking and singing until the both of them had almost completely whisked their worries away. They blasted the radio on full volume, singing dramatically to the sad songs and whipping their heads back and forth at the heavy metal. They were just two balls of sunshine drawing energy off one another... and they both liked it that way.

After singing at the top of their lungs for a good two hours, the both of them were exhausted by the time Hoseok pulled back up at the curb, parking the car outside District Unknown's base. "Here we are." Hoseok grinned, switching off the engine and opening up the car door.

The both of them jumped out, smiles on their faces as they playfully pushed each other around. Daisy was first to stumble to the door, kicking off her shoes before pulling Hoseok inside. Their legs felt like jelly, so when they both collapsed on the lounge together, they didn't bother moving.

They lay side by side, Daisy's body slightly pushed into Hoseok's as she struggled to not fall off the lounge. Letting out a tired sigh, she began to move away but found her breath falling short as Hoseok wrapped his arm around her middle, pulling her to his chest.

She froze, not sure what to do as she peered up to read his expression, but his eyes were closed as he let out a soft breath, "I'm so tired," he groaned, "I don't think I can make it up the stairs..."

Daisy slapped a hand against his chest with a laugh, "Don't be such a sloth, I can't carry you."

He cuddled her closer, sharing their body heat as they fit perfectly together on the lounge, "I guess we can just stay here then..."

Daisy paused, hesitating for a moment before wrapping her arms around his torso and hugging him close. She didn't know what had overcome her, she just knew it felt right, "Okay." she murmured with a tiny sigh. And she smiled happily for a few minutes before her eyes flickered shut,

And they both drifted to sleep in each other's arms.

{Author Note}

People are right when they say opposites attract, but that doesn't necessarily mean that people with the same personalities shouldn't fit well together either.

As an introvert, all my friends are extraverts and I like it that way, but when it comes to romance I love it when someone shares the same personality as me... we have so much more depth in our conversations... I have a very odd obsession with Space and Philosophy that most people find crazy, so I hate it when people don't take me seriously when talking about the topics. Some people will gladly gaze up at the stars and talk about fundamental questions with me for hours, and others will just laugh and tell me off for thinking about existence way too much.

I think everyone needs to be surrounded by people like them, but also their opposites. It works well when you have a bit of both.

Thanks for listening to my ted talk again! ahaha xoxox
