sixty one
{an overlooked detail}
He felt it... Jimin felt it before he saw anything.
Cold icy fingers wrapping tightly around his arm before he was shoved forwards. It was forceful, Jimin stumbling over his feet before his knees grazed against the concrete floor, a hiss of pain escaping his lips as he collided.
His breath escaped as he heard the creek of the door closing behind him, the male's gaze snapping back over to the entrance as he watched the final crack of light disappear from the hall followed by the click of a lock.
"No..." Jimin spoke breathlessly, stumbling to his feet before sprinting back over to the closed door. He gritted his teeth, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes as he cursed under his breath, "no, No, NO!" He shouted, letting out a cry of rage as he punched the door out of anger.
He flinched back as pain traveled through his hand, kicking the door instead, "ANYONE!?" he called out with such desperation, oh god he should've been more careful!
It was dark, and that only amplified Jimin's senses as he fell into silence. His breaths were loud, his beating heart growing faster with each second that passed. There was no way the plan was going to work... not if the Jeons were already one step ahead. They should've seen this coming from a mile away! God- why were they so careless!?
Why was he so careless...
Running a hand stressfully through his hair, Jimin brought his fingertips to his ear, "Can anyone still hear me?" His words came out fast and jumbled as he continued to speak, "Hoseok? Tae... ANYONE!?" He let out another cry in a fit of rage, slamming his back against the door before sliding down into a crouched position.
He hugged his knees close, "No use." his words came out quiet, "I'm out of range-"
He paused
Eyes growing wide as he came to a realisation...
"But maybe~" With quick movements, Jimin shoved his hand into the pocket of his suit coat, fingers brushing against his phone. He slipped out the device, fumbling with it as he began to scroll through his contacts.
He tapped a finger against Hoseok's number, drawing his lower lip between his teeth as he brought his phone up to his ear. Impatiently tapping a foot against the ground he waited in the dark as the phone rung through the silence. Hoseok always picked up, it was connected to all of his devices so out of everyone Hoseok was certainly going to answer...
Which is why his heart sunk when Hoseok didn't
"Seriously?" Jimin deadpanned, bringing the phone away from his ear as the final ring sent him to voicemail. With the screen illuminating the fear in his eyes, Jimin checked his phone once again.
He had full bars...
This didn't make sense!
Biting down harder against his lip, Jimin pressed down on another contact, bringing his phone back up to his ear as it began to ring. He waited impatiently, each ring of the device seemingly longer then the last. His heart wanted to break free from his chest as it pounded against his rib cage and Jimin almost felt sick when he realised that Jungkook too wasn't going to answer his call.
Something was up... Jimin could feel it.
His movements only became more frantic as he scrolled through his contacts once more, pressing down on one final contact.
By this stage his heart was in his throat, breaths falling heavy as the phone began to ring and echo through the silence. He could feel the cold beginning to creep under his skin, the male shivering as he brought his knees closer to his chest.
One ring sounded,
Then another...
Until an all too familiar voice sounded through the line.
Jimin couldn't help but let out a drastic sigh of relief, sinking into a state of comfort as that sweet, sweet voice began to comfort him. He couldn't help but smile a crooked grin as his eyes began to water out of pure relief, "Yoongi..." He paused as he let out a shaky breath, "thank god."
----
5 minutes earlier
Pacing backwards and forwards around the security room, Hoseok held a nail between his teeth. Jimin was down for the count, just seconds ago he had witnessed Kyo shoving Jimin inside one of the empty rooms under the building. He could feel his blood begin to boil but on the surface he remained calm... he had to if the plan still had a chance of working.
Slipping his glasses back on, Hoseok rose a hand to his earpiece, "Taehyung... can you hear me?"
There was a moment of drawn out silence before a voice rung through Hoseok's earpiece, "I can, and I'm in position." Taehyung's voice came out hushed almost, reassuring Hoseok that the male was in fact ready to draw away the security from the stage.
Taking in a breath, Hoseok ran a hand stressfully through his hair, "We're doing the plan now... but remember, Taehyung, don't take them down." He spoke sternly, "The Jeons are all communicating through earpieces and if one connection goes down they'll most likely send reinforcements." He finished, moving back over to the security monitors as he tried to locate Taehyung's position. He pulled up a couple of screens, covering the footage of the basement level as he instead shifted his attention from Jimin to Taehyung and Jungkook.
Jimin was a smart guy... Hoseok knew that he'd be able to help himself. What really mattered was getting Jungkook up on that stage undetected. Then they might still have a slim chance of victory.
From the other end of the line, Taehyung's voice rung through loud and clear, "Rodger, Sofia and I are on it."
A small crackle was heard as the line cut off, allowing for Hoseok to focus back on the security cameras. He wasn't only monitoring Taehyung and Jungkook, but the Jeons movements as well. Because a feeling of dread was beginning to sit heavy on his chest, drowning him in fear. Hoseok was smart. He knew better then anyone that this plan wasn't going to end well, the Jeons were obviously onto them.
Risk telling Jungkook?... No, that would only stress the brunette more then he already needed to be. Their best chance at this moment was to keep everything according to plan.
So that's why Hoseok sat himself back down in that desk chair, letting his eyes lift to the monitors as he pushed aside that feeling of dread. His gaze trailed over each camera carefully but there was still no signs of the syndicate leader, nor his right hand man Kyo... come to think of it- where had Kyo disappeared off to after facing Jimin?
Hoseok's brows furrowed as he twisted his lips in concentration, moving a few monitors closer as he began to inspect the new basement level.
Most of the cameras were too dark or pixelated to make out anything, leaving Hoseok more puzzled then he was before he even knew about the secret floor.
His eyes narrowed on the screen, the male leaning forwards in his chair.
He was too focused on that camera...
Because he failed to notice the man looming outside the security room,
Until the creaking door signalled it was far too late.
----
The stage door pushed open, not making as much as a sound as Jungkook slipped his way inside. His adrenaline began to surge so fast he felt nauseous, he could taste the saliva thickening in his mouth before swallowing his fear and moving over towards the short staircase that led up to the backstage.
It was eerily still, not a person in sight as he slowly moved up each stair. At some point he would have to enter the backstage area, and the moment Taehyung's voice rang through the earpiece and said, "Go" he knew that now it was all down to him.
Steadying himself, Jungkook reached the top of the staircase. The backstage door was already wide open, leading into the darker space. But he remained cautious, bringing his back against the wall as he peeked around the corner.
His eyes scanned the room, gaze lingering on the light that shone through from the stage itself. There was no sign of people, only boxes of electrics and stage equipments. So with careful movements, Jungkook rounded the corner, unknowingly holding his breath as he treaded over the chords and wires spread across the floor.
It was dark, but not dark enough to be troublesome for Jungkook as he swiftly made his way to the corner of the backstage room. He neared a stack of untouched boxes, kneeling down on one knee before digging inside the furthest one.
His fingers brushed along stage props and old wires as he searched through the box with increased anxiety.
His gun... he was sure he put it in this box.
"Shit." he cursed through gritted teeth, pushing the box aside as he reached for another.
His movements grew jittery as he searched through another box, rummaging around only to bring out his hands with nothing in his grasp. He could feel his heart begin to race as he reached for another box in denial, searching more quickly this time before he grabbed another box, and then another, and another... until there was nothing left to search through anymore.
In a trance, his breaths grew uneven and ragged as he clenched a hand to his chest, falling back from his knees as he sat on the floor instead. Around him was now the scattered objects he had tipped from the boxes, the scene as messed up as his thoughts as he tried to process the situation.
Jungkook couldn't accept it, he couldn't accept that this mission had obviously failed.
His hands began to tremble as he rose a finger to his earpiece, "Hoseok?" Silence followed, and Jungkook's anxiety only grew worse, "Hoseok!?" he was now a mixture of both fear and unrestrained anger as he shouted, "HOSEOK PLEASE ANSWER!" But once again, no response followed.
"FUCK!" He screamed, not caring for the attention he might've gained as he ripped the earpiece from his ear and threw it across the floor. It crashed against the wall, and Jungkook fell silent. There was no use in even hiding... they were finished, Jungkook knew that they were now just dead men walking... waiting for the finishing blow.
"No." His teeth began to chatter as he trembled, "not now... not them!" He couldn't grasp a single clear thought as he sunk into the fear. His father... that man had caught onto the plan, "He knew... he used me AGAIN!"
The room settled into silence once more as Jungkook tried to get a grip on his rapid breaths. His heart began to beat in his ears and nothing was slowing down this increasing anxiety.
Especially not the sound of a creaking floorboard.
Jungkook's gaze shot up, the male's doe eyes growing impossibly wider as he watched a familiar man move towards him.
He felt like a child all over again.
The man's footfalls were powerful, his stance strong as he peered down over Jungkook's form with a wicked smile, "Found you..." the man reached forwards,
"Son."
