forty eight
{conscious}
Softly, slowly, the darkness began to fade away. Making way to the light as Yoongi found his eyes beginning to flicker open. They felt heavy, so he had to open and close them a few times as he shed the unconsciousness from his brain to allow for the visions of the darkness to give way to the day.
It only took a few seconds before he felt the warm rays of the sun cast down over his face, adjusting his eyes as they tried to focus on the blurry hospital scene. As he rose from his heavy slumber he was first aware of the coolness of the air and its loamy fragrance. The bed underneath him was soft, and his clothes felt comfortable.
He half wondered if he was still dreaming until he rose an arm weakly to shield his eyes, and that's when he heard the sound of the IV tube run over the blankets as he brought up his hand. Now he was awake, struggling with little energy to hold his hand in front of him as he studied the needle wedged into his skin.
He let his hand fall against his chest, finding it too hard to lift for any longer. His eyes were set on the blank ceiling, the beeping of his heart monitor flooding his senses as he let out a breath, "I'm... not dead?" His breath came out raspy and broken.
So weak that from across the room Namjoon almost didn't hear it.
Namjoon flinched, slowly turning his gaze to the male in the hospital bed. His eyes grew wide as he stood from his seat, staring for a moment before making his way to the bedside. He was at a loss for words, staring down at a fully conscious male as Yoongi gave a weak gesture, "Yo." Yoongi uttered, and Namjoon couldn't help but let out a drastic sigh.
"God," He drew in a breath, "This is such a relief."
Yoongi found his lips parting in surprise as Namjoon dropped his head, holding on tightly to the side of the hospital bed. He'd never seen his leader so relieved in his life... so his injuries must've been serious-
The moment between them didn't last long, the door to the room opening up as a female nurse accompanied by a male doctor strut their way inside. In their hands were clipboards and documents, the female nurse slightly bringing down her glasses as she gave Yoongi a smile of reassurance, "You've woken up." Her voice was very sweet, so Yoongi found himself at ease as the lady made her way to his bedside.
Namjoon moved himself away, "Should I step out or-"
The male doctor turned towards him, "This'll only take a moment, we just need to do a quick check up." He made his way over to Yoongi's heart monitor, "You can wait outside for a few minutes, and then we'll call you back in."
"Sure." Namjoon uttered with a hint of annoyance as he turned towards the door, slipping outside before shutting it behind him. He let out a groan. How buggy this was. Yoongi had just woken up and he'd already been shooed out.
So Namjoon waited, a nail drawn between his teeth as he tapped a foot impatiently against the tiled floor. He could already feel himself growing insane after spending two days straight in hospital, deciding it would be best to not leave Yoongi unattended incase of an emergency.
Jimin stayed too, refusing to leave. It had taken Namjoon so much convincing to get Jimin to go grab some breakfast down at the hospital cafe this morning, the male having left only a few minutes before Yoongi had woken. Maybe Jimin would bring him back a coffee?
Slipping his hand into the pocket of his jeans, Namjoon fished out his phone, bring the device up to call Jimin but his actions were interrupted as the door to the room re-opened, the nurse sticking her head through with a soft smile, "You can come back in now."
Namjoon gave a gesture of thanks before heading back inside, eyes immediately falling back over Yoongi. He was now sat up in bed, sorrowful gaze cast out the window as the light of the early morning sun sent his tousled blonde hair aglow.
Namjoon pursed his lips.
Yoongi didn't look too well.
The doctor came over with his clipboard, eyes scanning over a couple of documents before he spoke, "We'll check up again later today." He spoke sternly, not even sparing a glance as he left alongside the nurse, shutting the door behind them both.
Namjoon let out a breath, running a hand through his hair, "God, could doctors be anymore blunt?" He said, dragging a chair over to Yoongi's bedside. He fell into the old chair, leaning slightly forwards as he faced the blonde. And he frowned, noticing the male's distant stare, "Yoongi?" still no response, "Yoongi-"
"Um." Yoongi's gaze pulled away from the window as he let out a breath, "Sorry, it's just-"
It was unlike Yoongi to be this light with his words. The male was usually blunt, speech choppy and harsh. Namjoon couldn't help but soften his expression as he spoke once again, "The doctors said something, didn't they..."
Namjoon watched as Yoongi froze. His lips were ready to form words, but not a sentence came out as he just sat there, bathed in the soft light of the morning sun.
And then they both heard it, the small click of the hospital door opening once again.
Yoongi couldn't help but let his heart skip a beat as he watched none other then Park Jimin clumsily make his way inside, narrowed eyes trained on the two cups of coffee and one paper bag balanced in his hands. His orange hair was a mess, the tuffs poking out in all different directions, and his eyes were no different, bloodshot after a lack of sleep.
Still it had never felt so good to see Jimin.
Shutting the door behind him, Jimin spoke up, "Joon, I got the coffee you-" his eyes lifted, "...ordered."
Breath falling short, Jimin almost couldn't breathe when his gaze met with those feline eyes he had grown so much to love. He simply froze, not moving as much as a muscle as he tried to process the situation...
Yoongi was awake.
Oh God... Yoongi was awake.
That blank stare and expression so void of emotion sent a shudder down the back of Jimin's spine as he recalled how awfully he had treated Yoongi. The guilt began to bubble back to the surface, and Jimin almost had to catch the coffee that was slipping out of his hands as he realised that he had some serious apologising to do.
He parted his lips to speak, but decided to bite back his tongue, the fear stopping him from saying a word. He took a slow step back, dropping his gaze to the floor, "I can just leave if I was interrupting-"
"Jimin."
Jimin's heart lurched as his eyes shot back up once again. But this time he wasn't met by a blank expression, no... something much more then that. Jimin could already feel his throat growing tight, the hot tears beginning to well in his eyes as he watched Yoongi weakly lift his arms out in a gesture.
It was so unlike him, for Yoongi to just open his arms without hesitation. But oh god it was so inviting... and Jimin could already feel his body moving into action before his thoughts as he passed the coffee to Namjoon, pushing past and immediately running himself into Yoongi's embrace.
He'd never been hugged by Yoongi, and it was so unexpectedly warm and nice he could feel himself almost melting away. Jimin could feel how frail Yoongi's body was in his arms and that was enough to send the tears falling from his eyes once more.
"I'm so stupid," Jimin began to sob, burying his head into the crook of Yoongi's neck, "So fucking stupid-" Jimin gently squeezed him, not wanting the moment to end.
Yoongi could feel Jimin's tears soaking into his shirt, lifting one hand to play with the back of Jimin's hair in reassurance. He'd never known such warmth from a person, and in Jimin's embrace his mind almost felt at peace. Yoongi rested his head on Jimin's shoulder, the aroma of ink only making him feel more at home as he held onto the male a little tighter. How could it be that he hadn't seen Jimin's care? Pure. Unselfish. Undemanding of him. The raw emotion reassured Yoongi that Jimin was serious about this...
Yoongi felt his body press in, soft and comforted. This was the love he'd waited for, prayed for. He wasn't religious, but he inwardly thanked God and hugged all the tighter.
And, "Finally-" he thought.
Finally there was someone for him...
Jimin thought he was dreaming when he slightly pulled away, looking over the male in the hospital bed. He wiped at his own eyes, but found himself unable to react as he watched as Yoongi's lips began to tremble and his shoulders heaved with emotion, unwilling to back down.
Yoongi's dark lashes brimmed heavy with tears; his shaking hands reaching out and clenching onto Jimin's shirt, in a desperate battle against the grief.
Jimin found his lips parting as a lone tear traced its way down Yoongi's cheek, and just like that, the floodgates opened.
Yoongi was...
crying?
The male wept, tears streaming from his eyes, loud, heaving sobs tearing from his throat. His defences washed away in those salty tears, and still watching on in shock, both Namjoon and Jimin could tell that this wasn't the Yoongi they knew... this wasn't the Yoongi who bravely stood his ground, fearlessly faced death or shot a man down without hesitation. It was everything he'd been holding back. A picture of grief, guilt, devastation. It was the face of someone who had suffered before and didn't know if he could continue to do it again.
Jimin drew his lower lip between his teeth as he once again moved his arms around Yoongi, feeling the male tremble as he sobbed into his chest unceasingly, hands clutching at his shirt.
Jimin held him in silence, waiting for what felt like hours as the tears only continued to fall. He felt Yoongi's hold on his shirt soon slip away, the blonde haired male pulling back, blinking lashes heavy with tears before he wiped at his eyes. "Sorry-" Yoongi croaked out, leaning back against the hospital bed with a blank stare, "I'm just feeling emotional today."
From the corner of the room, Namjoon snorted, "You make it sound like you're a moody teenager."
Yoongi's sharp eyes snapped over to his leader, "Shut up Joon." His voice was intimidating enough for Namjoon to almost shrink away.
"There's the Yoongi I know."
After a moment, Yoongi's eyes softened as he turned his gaze back to the male by his bedside. He inhaled a breath through his chapped lips, pausing for a moment in contemplation before he spoke to Jimin, "What you said was wrong..." he pursed his lips as his eyes dropped to his lap, "But the way I acted defensively was also wrong-"
"-No, it wasn't." Jimin let out a drastic sigh as he placed a hand against the side of the bed, "I knew that you weren't going to be so open... after all, you've never had a stable relationship-"
"We're different..." Yoongi's lips weakly lifted into a smirk, "After all, you're the only person I know that gives indefinite hugs."
Jimin's lip stuck out into a pout, "Shut up, you're making me sound like a big softy."
Yoongi gave a low chuckle, "That's because you are~"
The small conversation was cut short between the pair as Namjoon stood back to his feet, boots landing heavily against the floor as he made his way over. With a concerned glance, he recalled their conversation that was interrupted earlier, "Yoongi?"
The said male rose a brow, "Yeah?"
"Sorry for bringing this up again so suddenly... but I need to know," Namjoon swallowed thickly, slipping his hands into the pockets of his jeans as he spoke, "What did the doctor say about your injuries earlier?" He paused as his lips fell into a frown, "You looked pretty troubled."
The room fell into silence, the beeping of the machines amplified once again as Yoongi grew stiff, every bone in his body ceasing up,
And his expression fell once again.
