Epsilon yawed as she walked through town. She was going to talk with the Hokage, since the previous day she was busy and had to get her picture taken for her ninja ID. It was a pain and she hadn't gotten much sleep since the fiasco with Mizuki, so her picture was probably horrible, but she didn't take selfies anyways. Iruka had approached her to thank her, but she always played dumb to whatever he said. That reminded her of her damaged hand.
She glanced at her now bandaged hand. When she had held the string, it had cut the skin and allowed the blood to flow. It wasn't bad but it would take a while to heal since she's always using both her hands. She just hoped no one asked about how she got it.
She sighed. She didn't want to talk with the Hokage about why she was spying on the group of jounin, because then her secret about knowing the entire plot line might leak out. She wasn't watching where she was going, so she grunted when she bumped into someone. "My bad." She apologized and looked to see who it was. "Oh hey Naruto." She said calmly.
He seemed surprised. "H-hey Zeta."
She folded her hands behind her back. "You didn't miss your chance to become a ninja right?"
HIs eyes widened. "Did you know what was going to happen?"
She played the fool, and glanced over at him with a confused expressing. "What do you mean?"
"Oh." He looked down and scratched the back of his head. "Nothing." He then looked back up with a grin. He began walking down his path again, but was obviously surprised when she started following him. "What are you doing?"
"Following you."
"I know that!" He growled, then crossed his arms and pouted. "I'm saying why are you following me?"
She looked to the sky. "Let's just say that I'm avoiding something that I would really prefer not to do. So I'm going to walk with you." He dramatically sighed, but she caught the hint of a smile on his face as he put his back to her. She knew he was glad to have someone with him that didn't think he was a monster.
He made a sour face and she furrowed her eyebrows. "What's wrong?" Again he looked up startled, not expecting that from another kid, though technically she was older than him by one year.
"Well," he started, placing his hands behind his head. "You don't ignore me and say mean things to me? Why? Why are you so different from them?"
Her eyes that had migrated towards him, quickly dropped to the ground and watched her feet kick stones. She hated herself for actually following him. She told herself not to get involved with the main plot line, only watch, and making friends with the main character didn't exactly help her case along. She had to think before she said anything rash.
So naturally she said the first thing that came to mind.
"I guess it's because I think you're kinda like me Naruto. Back in my-" she caught herself from saying world. "-village, I didn't have too many people to rely on. When I was younger, many people avoided me and talked behind my back and said mean things because of my condition, so I guess I can see where you're coming from." Naruto stared at her with wide eyes and the voices in her head yelled indignantly.
I'm not a condition!
Neither am I!
For once we agree.
For not knowing what we are, I'd say that would be a logical from an other-worldly human.
'What in Tartarus are they talking about?'
Her mind was interrupted when there was a shuffling noise behind her. She and Naruto both stopped and turned around. There was a cream colored sheet that matched the ground, covering who she knew was Konohamaru. Naruto placed a finger to his head, memorizing its place and she sweat dropped. It was obvious that he was being followed. He walked again and she followed with a large sigh and a shake of her head. They walked for no more than ten seconds when Naruto stopped again with an annoyed expression on his face. He whirled around pointing a finger at the Honorable Grandson. "I know that you're following me so just give it up."
Epsilon turned around as well and smacked her palm to her forehead. Konohamaru was up against the wooden fence holding up a sheet that had the same line pattern as the fence, sideways.
Naruto's body twitched when the boy didn't move from his hiding spot. "That's so obvious it's pathetic."
After a few seconds of waiting, the Honorable Grandson finally dropped the sheet. "So you saw through my disguise huh? The rumors about you are true, you're good." Naruto's hand dropped back to his side and his eye began to twitch in annoyance. "Alright." He walked up to Naruto and dramatically pointed a finger at him. "I'll be your apprentice and you'll be my trainer."
Naruto blanched. "Huh?"
"And afterwards," Konohamaru brought his hands back to himself and spoke excitedly. "You've got to show me how to do that sexy jutsu thing that you did on grandpa Hokage!"
Naruto crossed his arms stubbornly and turned away. "This is some kind of joke isn't it?"
Epsilon sighed. "Afraid not Naruto."
"That's right I need a new trainer!" He begged. "Please Boss!" That got the other's attention.
"Huh? Boss?" He dropped his arms and turned back towards him.
"Yeah you're the Boss! Boss Boss Boss!"
"Well," Naruto rubbed the back of his head, a smile growing on his face. "How can I refuse?"
The two began to walk away, when Naruto stopped and looked back. "Aren't you coming Zeta? Don't you want to become a master ninja?"
"No thanks. I don't wanna be there when you're perving in on the girls." She turned away and lazily waved her hand in goodbye. "See ya around Naruto, Konohamaru." The eyes on the back of her head told her that the Honorable Grandson stood there with his mouth agape and eyes wide, staring at her as she left.
-
Epsilon sighed. Here she was, about to knock on the Hokage's door, when the voices just had to start talking again.
Don't tell him anything, it will only endanger you.
Just don't walk in.
Hey, I have an idea. Why not just kill him?
'I am a moron aren't I? I know it's not time for him to die, yet I still want to kill him.'
I am not you, brat!
'What the...'
Yes we can hear you.
Loud and clear.
That was new. She was never able to talk to voices before. Normally they would just torment her mind, but since there were different voices inside her head, it never occurred to her that she might be able to talk to pieces of herself.
I am not you!
Multiple voices shouted that phrase at her. At that same moment, a voice from inside the room said. "Come in." She looked to her hand, and sure enough it was in a fist resting on the door. She shoved down the voices and walked in.
"Hokage." She spoke monitonely.
He looked up. "Zeta, you may sit now." She sat and he laid down his scroll. "You know why I wanted to talk right?"
She nodded her head. "You wanted to talk to me about my spying."
"Yes, and no." She raised an eyebrow in question "I wanted to know how you knew that we would be gathered there, how you knew where Naruto was, and why you helped Iruka."
She swallowed thickly. Anything she said would basically be her giving away her secret. She looked away. "I can't tell you that." She then looked him straight in the eye. "What I can tell you though, is that I know the things to come. All I ask is that you trust me. I know that's not easy, " she sighed. "Especially since I'm not giving you a straight answer and I'm foreign. But, at another point in time, I promise I'll tell you everything." She would have to tell him at another point in time if she wanted him to trust her. As much as she hated it, she needed the Hokage to be on her side when things don't go her way.
He raised an eyebrow. "Interesting you would say that. You lied to us when you told your name. Why should I trust you after you've already lied once before?"
She looked away with guilty flashing through her eyes. "I did it as a precaution. Names have power, I didn't want you using it against me if I did something wrong."
The Third Hokage nodded. "That's very logical." His voice turned hard. "It would make more sense if you were a spy."
She knit her eyebrows and a pained expression passed across her feature. "Epsilon. That's my real name. I'd prefer if you'd call me Zeta with others though." She looked even farther down. She needed him to trust her above most else.
A wrinkled smile formed on his face, creasing at the corner of his eyes. "I'm glad that you trust me enough now to tell me your name. I now trust you enough not to question you further." She looked up and smile twitched onto her face. "Except, how did you know where the crystal ball was watching from?"
"Knowledge."
-
Once the Hokage excused her, Epsilon began walking around town. Her hands were folded and placed behind her head. Training. That's what she needed to be doing. Considering that fact that she was now a genin, she would probably be put on a team, hopefully with one of the random teams with unimportant characters on it. Once again, she didn't want to mess with main storyline too much.
But if she wanted to prove that she had the capacity to actually fight and not be useless in that aspect like Sakura, she couldn't keep relying on luck to get a jutsu right the first time. 'Speaking of...' She frankly wasn't sure how she had done the things that had required chakra. She had a hunch though. Since she couldn't use chakra naturally, her body has to compensate by using something else. Possibly her life force, her energy. If that was the case, she didn't have much to spare unless she wanted to give her life. She would had to figure something out. With that and training in mind, she headed towards the forest training area.
Once she was there, she spotted two familiar figures. One had an unmistakable orange jacket and the other a noticeable blue scarf. She slipped behind them and grabbed a bottle of water from the vending machine. As the machine was processing her request, she listened in on their conversation.
Naruto took a large slurp of his drink and said, "So, what's up with this obsession you've got with your grandfather."
"My grandfather named me Konohamaru after the ancient name of the village, so it should be easy to remember. But not one person calls me that name not one person in the whole village, except for that girl you were with." At this point, Epsilon's water dropped down and she caught it before it could hit the metal and make a loud clang. She then turned around and leaned against the vending machine, wanting to hear more. "That's 'cause when they look at me, they don't really see me. All they see is the 'Honorable Grandson of the Lord Hokage'. Only that girl knows who I am." His face because slightly bitter. "I can't stand it anymore, it's like I'm invisible. Like I don't exist. I hate that." His clenched fists shook."That's the reason that I've got to become Hokage now so people know who I am!"
Naruto turned away. "Get real. You think people are going to accept a squirt like you?" Konohamaru looked up at him. "A kid can't just turn into a Hokage after a day or two."
Konohamaru leaped up from his spot and raised a fist at Naruto. "What?!"
"It's not that simple. You keep saying Hokage Hokage, but to really be a Hokage, do you know what you'll have to do?"
"What? What is it?" Konohamaru spoke threateningly.
Naruto grinned and showed off a determined look, turning to the Honorable Grandson. "You're going to have to beat me in battle."
Epsilon tucked the water bottle under her arm and clapped slowly. "Well said Naruto." She hopped over the log and sat in between the two boys.
"Zeta? What are you doing here?" Naruto asked quizzically.
She shrugged. "I came to train. Didn't know you were here though." She turned to Konohamaru. "Hey Konohamaru, what has this oaf been teaching you?" Truthfully, she knew what Naruto taught him, but she didn't want to act suspicious or anything.
The boy just stared at her in disbelief. "Take a picture it'll last longer." She commented and he pouted then looked away. He sat back down on the log.
"It's just..." He trailed off. "You are the only who actually uses my name."
She froze. He was right. She had been calling him by his name when no one else did. She closed her eyes and sighed in defeat. Once again she interrupted the plot line. She then remember where they were in the story. "Oh yeah and your wako sensei is just behind us." They all looked behind her and they saw Konohamaru's sensei land on a tree branch.
"I found you." He spoke coldly, then pointed at Epsilon. "And who are you?"
"Zeta." She responded boredly. "I'm Naruto's friend." She then did a double take at her own words. 'Oh no. I said friend. I'm becoming too friendly with Naruto.' Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Naruto staring at her in disbelief. She refused to look at him, fearful that he would believe her.
Hmph. The Nine Tailed Fox has a friend. I wonder how he manipulated her to say that.
The sensei thought. His body was rigid and his eyes ice cold, looking straight at Naruto. She was forgotten for now. Naruto stood up and looked at him with anger flaring through his eyes.
That icy stare. They all look at me that way. Except...
Naruto thought and slowly turned his eyes to her. She pretended not to see, as her eyes were fixed on the man in the tree. Konohamaru's sensei dropped from the tree and landed gracefully on solid ground. "So, Honorable Grandson. Time to go home."
"No way!" Konohamaru shouted defiantly and shook his head. "I'm learning how to beat my grandfather so I can get the title! Hokage!" He waved his fists around dramatically. "Now don't get in my way!"
His sensei started towards him. "A Hokage is more than just a fighter. He must have virtue, honor, and wisdom and he must be skilled at a thousand jutsu." He spread his arms. " You don't even know one jutsu."
Konohamaru's face turned into one of frustration and anger. Epsilon let out a large sigh from where she was sitting. "Look away." She grumbled.
"Transform!" He had used the sexy jutsu, and was now a naked girl with her arms above her head. The clouds left over from the transformation were the only covering him. "Hi there. Like my jutsu?" He spoke in a girl voice.
His sensei stood there stiff like a board yelling in surprise. Not to mention that there was blood running from his nose. 'Dirty old senile man.'
The Honorable Grandson then poofed back and said, "Hey, he's not defeated!"
His sensei grew an irk mark while a blush still covered his face. "W-w-what kind of scandalous technique is that! Such tasteless vulgarity can never influence me! I am far above it!" Naruto clenched his fists.
Epsilon snickered. "Then why is your nose bleeding?" He shot her a harsh glare that meant shut up.
Konohamaru's sensei then turned from her and tugged on said boy's scarf, trying to get him to come with him. The boy resisted heavily though. "Honorable Grandson, stop this right now!" The sensei yelled and his voice cracked. Epsilon cracked a small smile, then it disappeared. "Naruto's turning you into a delinquent! Only my special training can put you on the fast track to becoming a Hokage!"
"Just leave me alone!" He yelled back. His arms were flailing around him like it would help him escape.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Naruto forming a hand sign. "Shadow clone jutsu!" He shouted and all eyes turned to him. Around thirty clones appeared quickly around him, all making the same hand sign. A normal person wouldn't be able to see which one was the real one, but she knew. Well, it wasn't by sight, more of a gut feeling she had. Like she was being pulled to the real one.
"Woah!" Konohamaru's shout shook her from her thoughts. "This is unreal!" He now stood next to his sensei with all the Naruto clones in front of him.
The sensei smirked and pushed up his glasses. "I'm not impressed. I'm a jounin and Leaf Ninja warrior. I'm not some lightweight like Mizuki." He began to walk forward. "Watch how a real ninja beats an upstart." Epsilon was tempted to shout out that beating a kid was child abuse, but decided against it and just sweat dropped.
"Come on Boss." Konohamaru whispered, and the Narutos all got in a fighting stance.
"Ready." The sensei spoke with a sly smirk. He crossed his arms and pointed two fingers up to the sky on one hand and two fingers horizontally on the other. She just sighed. 'Here we go again.'
"Transform!" All the Narutos shouted and placed their hands in the correct position. In one giant poof, they all turned into naked girls. She smacked a hand to her forehead. Konohamaru was ecstatic.
They all grabbed onto Konohamaru's sensei and he lost it, flying backwards until he hit the ground twitching. "Gotcha'," Naruto said with a cocky smile. "With my harem jutsu." Epsilon turned to where she knew that the Third Hokage was watching and stuck out her tongue childishly.
-
"Aw man" Konohamaru shouted, clenching his fists in frustration. "I couldn't even beat that snobby trainer of mine! I wanna be Hokage so bad but I keep messing up! Why can't I do it?!"
Naruto turned to him calmly. "You really think it's that easy?" Konohamaru looked up to him surprised. "To be Hokage you have to be the greatest of all ninja." He looked down. "You have to prove yourself so everyone believes in you. Look at me, I've been through a lot already. I've been ignored, pushed away, and treated like I had the plague or something, and after all that I found one - no, two people who believe in me. To find those two people I had to get knocked down a lot, so you better make sure that you're ready."
"For what?" The smaller boy questioned.
Naruto turned away. "For lots of sweat, and tears while you're learning to be a ninja." Naruto turned his head around to face Konohamaru once more. "Heh, by the way there is no easy way to becoming Hokage... Believe it." Konohamaru just stared at him with wide eyes and Epsilon allowed herself a small smile. Naruto's quotes were always the best, not to mention he was kinda cute while saying them. Unfortunately she had to find a way to make him hate her, for the plot line's sake anyways.
"Ha!" Konohamaru put his back to Naruto. "Who do you think you are giving me a big lecture like that. That's it! I'm not going to be your apprentice any more. From now on, we're rivals." He turned and grinned widely at Naruto.
Naruto smirked. "Well I can't be your trainer anyway, 'cause tomorrow, I start my advanced ninja studies, but I accept your challenge, and some day we'll fight for the title 'Lord Hokage'. So let's both look forward to that day, Konohamaru." He then walked away and raised a single hand in goodbye. Konohamaru stood at attention and saluted, then he too walked away.
Epsilon blinked a few times before she realized they had totally forgotten about her. Well, it's for the best. Her heart began to hurt as she created the thought, but she brushed it aside. Her feelings didn't matter in this plot line.
She calmly stood up, going to train like she had originally come here to do. She wandered a bit into the forest and found a small lake, a beautiful lake. That's where she began to train.
-
Epsilon panted heavily as she sat down on the edge of the lake. The moon shone brightly overhead and glinted off the clear water's reflective surface. She cupped her hands and dunked them beneath the water, creating a ripple effect. She brought the water out from the lake and splashed her face with it, cooling her down instantly. She unlodged from the ground one of the giant shuriken that she obtained the other day, and laid it flat against ground. She dunked her hands into the water again and froze stiff when she noticed it.
Her right eye was blood red and had a seemingly random black dots on it. No, she recognized this. Her breath quickened and she desperately tried to move, but her disbelieving body was frozen in place. "T-this is the... the Rinne Sharingan. T-the one that the Ten-Tails has." Finally her body unfroze and she bolted, snatching her two giant shuriken from the ground and hooking them on her back. She sprinted as fast as she could towards her house.
She passed by the window of a shop.
There it was.
There was a mirror in front of a clothes store.
It was still there.
Epsilon arrived at her house and flung open her door, not even bothering to lock it behind her. She dropped the shuriken in the hall and ducked under her covers once she was in her room. She was scared to death, and unfortunately, sleep came easy.
In her dream, there was darkness all around her, and she was sitting in something that looked like darkened water. She shakily stood to her feet and glanced around. Everything was pitch black. She faced forward again and there were bars in front of her. They were too small for her though. She could slip right through them if she wanted to. 'No...' She looked higher. 'They were meant for something else.' Only one seal was in the middle of the bars, connecting the two halves that looked something like doors together.
Above her, a single sideways eye loomed over her. It was blood red, and seemed to stare into her soul. It leaned forward and human like hands wrapped around the bars. "Well it looks like she can see us now." Her eyes widened. 'Us?'
She spun around, but her vision became blurry and began stretching in odd directions. The world tilted and her face met water. She may have been imagining it, but it looked like there were 10 more cages just like the first one. And that's when the dream ended.
