The first thing we really did was think of cute nicknames for one another. She jumped forward and picked "Bunny" for me because I'm cute and warm and love to cuddle. I will admit, I would and always have cuddled her a lot in texts and tweets, so it made perfect sense! I, on the other hand, had some difficulty. I decided with "Angel" for her at first, because well, she IS my angel, but it didn't feel very right at the time. Plus I wanted her nickname to be some sort of animal as well, because it would be like we're a team! So one day while I was on the Hot Topic website looking through accessories, I saw a hummingbird ring. And that's when it hit me.
"Najwa!!!" I messaged her. "I found out the perfect pet name for you!! :DD"
"Oohh, what is it, Love?! :D"
"Hummingbird..!! <3"
"Awww I love it!! (:"
"Really..?! Yay..!! :D <3"
So from then on, we'd always call one another Bunny and Hummingbird. We also thought of many others, including Hunnies, Darling, Love, and Dearest. She had even made up specific ones for me: Little Lovely Love, Honeybee--and I for her: Babydoll (which seemed to stick because we both started using it frequently), Sweetie Pumpkin Pie, Cutie, and many others. We were so gooey and lovey-dovey, it was really amazing. So far, this had been the best relationship I've been in, and I didn't want this blissful feeling to stop anytime soon.
One morning she told me that she had uploaded a cover of Skyscraper by Demi Lovato. I had never been a big fan of her music, but I didn't care at the moment. I wanted to hear her sing! Though, unfortunately I couldn't get to a computer until the next day, so I was antsy for the entire time. I'd finally get to hear her voice! I couldn't wait!
The next morning I went right into the computer since it was a Saturday, and looked up the video on youtube. I clicked on it and watched the whole thing. Her voice = GORGEOUS! And I actually really enjoyed the song as well....Which was new for me. I never usually liked Disney stars!
What I didn't tell her about, however, was that that night before I watched it, I had a strange dream. In it I was watching the video and oddly enough the background of where she was in the dream was similar to that in the actual video, and her younger brother was....Chinese? What? That didn't make sense....But I knew either way that he certainly was not Chinese.... I thought the dream was way more funny that it was weird. What are the chances of dreaming of something similar to what something actually looks like, when I've never really seen it in the first place?
Before you know it our one month anniversary was coming up. We decided that we would have our very first phone call on that day. Especially because Najwa's parents go grocery shopping every Monday, the day of our month anniversary, so that would just be perfect!
When the time came and she messaged me: "Okay, my parents are gone!! I'm gonna call you! :D Look for a 615 number!!" I nearly fangirled, messaging back "OKAY..!!! Let me run up to my room..!! :DD" And that I did.
Once I situated myself on my bed, I took my phone out of my pocket and stared at the clock that sat on a tiny side table beside my bed, down at my phone again, and back at the clock. Finally my phone began to vibrate. I looked down, and saw a 615 number. That's her!
At that moment my hands started to shake and get clammy, my throat suddenly dry. I was so nervous because I had never called someone on the phone who I met on the Internet before. What if she wasn't who I thought she was? What if she was really some 50 year old male pedophile who knew exactly where I lived and was waiting to come break into my house when I trusted "her" and kill me? But, surely that wouldn't be the case.....Would it?
I pressed the receive button on my phone and held it up to my ear. ".....Hello?" I said, my voice shaking with a smile spreading across my face.
"Heyyyy...hehehee..." I could hear a smirk in her voice.
I couldn't help but giggle back at her. It was so awkward because we both had no idea what to talk about now that we were actually on the line with one another. "....This is so weird..." I laughed. "But I can't stop smiling!"
"I KNOW! Me either!!" She agreed enthusiastically.
We continued to giggle awkwardly, but I broke the ice when I saw a small white bunny sitting on my bookshelf right in front of me. "OH! Oh my gosh! You know what I just realized?"
"Ooohh what?!" She said curiously.
"I have a stuffed Bunny," I whispered. "Hehehehe..."
She squealed into the phone: "I DO TOO!".
"Really?! Ohhh! We should both cuddle them at night so it's like we're cuddling each other!"
"YES! Brilliant idea!"
Again, from then on we both would cuddle our stuffed Bunny's every single night, pretending it was the other person and giving it kisses and joking that we had telepathic powers with them.
As we kept talking on the phone, we got more and more comfortable with everything. For the remainder of the hour, our conversation consisted of somehow talking about how we both hate spiders. She mentioned that her brother Avalon has a giant lego spider and how he one night placed it on the bathroom counter of hers one night. She went up to use the bathroom at 2 AM, and as she was walking out she saw it and went "Eh," not fully realizing that it was a HUGE spider, and walked out. Though when she reached her bed she realized it was a spider finally, and started to freak out. When she told me this, I honestly couldn't stop laughing. It was so cute! But if this were me on the other hand, I wouldn't be laughing...I get scared pretty damn easily.
With that, I remembered that my other brother used to have a tarantula named Spinner. I told her about this, and as I was explaining how I absolutely hated this giant spider of my brothers, I started to scare myself. I got paranoid that maybe there was a spider on the wall near me or that one would crawl on me, because there does tend to be spiders upstairs in the first place. I told her that I was making myself paranoid, so we switched subjects.
Suddenly, I jumped up off of my bed and ran over to the other side of my room, but not without tripping on a tool box filled with wrenches and nails and hammers. Why was a tool box in my room in the first place, you ask? Well, my older sister and I used to share a room and there was an extra bed-frame in my room, so my older brother was awesome enough to take it apart for me. Though he left the box in my room, and now I tripped over it.
"FUCK!" I yelled, trying not to scream too loud into the phone, grabbing my foot in pain because I stubbed my bare toes on it. When the pain eased, I apologized for swearing. Why I apologized, I'm not sure. I swear all the time! I explained to her why I swore though, and she asked me if I was alright, and I said I was fine, just that my toes now throbbed thanks to my klutziness. I continued my way to the other side of the room, more careful now, and reached a wooden shelf that hung on my wall. I plucked a fan with a bird on it off of the shelf and looked at it closely. "Awwe dang it!" I blurted out. "Okay, so I have a fan thing that I got from my Grandma I think it was, and there's a bird on it...I thought it was a hummingbird, but it isnt..."
"Aww that sucks..." She said sadly. "But hey, at least we have our bunnies!"
"Very true," I smiled to myself.
I wouldn't have anything Hummingbird-y for over a year after that, which makes me really sad. She eventually bought a shirt that she didn't even notice it had a hummingbird on it for at least a few weeks, and when she finally saw it she totally fangirled, which I thought was adorable. I couldn't blame her, either!
Anyways, after that I laid down on my bed, still talking with her, and glanced at my digital clock. "Sigh," I said, "it's 6..." We had been talking for exactly an hour now.
"Sigh," she repeated, "it's 7..."
I couldn't help but giggle at that. The time difference sucked, though it was better than one of us being on the other side of the country, or even world, huh?
Suddenly she mentioned, "Hey, at least our first phone conversation isn't as awkward as Sammi Doll and Jinxx's first one..."
"Oh yeah!" I exclaimed. "That's good! Hahaha,"
Sammi Doll, girlfriend to Jinxx, one of the guitarists of Black Veil Brides got a question one time on her Formspring account that asked how their first phone call went. She replied, explaining that it was fairly awkward with lots of weird silences where neither of them would say a word...And we both thought this would happen to us! Luckily however, it didn't!
Neither of us wanted to get off the phone. Ever. But soon we had to because her parents were coming home from grocery shopping. We both sulked at this, and play-argued with who would hang up first.
I started with: "You hang up first!" And she went: "Nooo you hang up first!" This went on as a cycle for at least 5 minutes until I finally said, "....Pssst....Guess what?!"
She laughed, going, "Hmmmm?"
I paused for a few seconds and then said, "...I loooove youuu..."
"Pshh, I love you more!!"
"Nooo, I love you more..."
Then she decided to pull an Andy-Biersack on me. "I love you more than chocolate milk!!"
I wasn't about to let her win this one! "AHHH! I love you more than chocolate milk with whipped cream and hot fudge and sprinkles and love and kisses on top!"
We went on and on, trying to beat one another, but it never got settled, so we just let it go. Which probably means I won, right? I doubt it. She ALWAYS wins! Because, you know, "Najwa is always right."....
By now we were just stalling. We really didn't want to get off the phone, but her parents were literally about to come in her door any minute now, so we really had to. She hung up first, because I remember sitting there staring at my phone, missing her more than ever. As soon as I hung my line up, I got a text message from her that read, "I miss you... :("
I replied: "I miss you too... :"("
I must admit, that was probably the best phone conversation I've ever had in my life. I was so nervous--and I'm pretty sure she was too--but as we were talking I felt so amazing and so....alive. You know? All I wanted to do was talk with her 24/7, nevermind eating or sleeping or doing anything else....
Plus, Monday would become my favorite day of the week.
