chapter eight
Ahh! I am so sorry this is so short, but I felt like that was the right place to leave off.
Also, I wanted to wait for next chapter to add the drama.
Also also, I didn't know what else to put in this chapter.
As soon as the group arrived back at the mountain, Jason grabbed Wanda's wrist and tugged her down the hallway to his room, ignoring the looks the team were giving them.
He pulled her into his room and closed the door, leading Wanda to the floor in front of his bed. Wanda raised an eyebrow as they sat down crisscross on the floor. "Was that abrupt exit really necessary?"
Jason shrugged. "I want to find my mom and you are the best shot at it."
Wanda nodded slowly, reaching for Jason's hands. When he gave her a strange look she rolled her eyes. "You are my strongest connection to your mother so I will need to draw on this strength." Jason shrugged, about to say something when Wanda cut him off. "Shh, I need to concentrate."
Wanda reached out with her powers through Jason, focusing on finding his mother. She located her fairly easily, pulling her hands back and opening her eyes. Jason was searching her face for answers. "Well? Did you find her?"
Wanda nodded. "She is in Ethiopia."
"Sweet! Thanks, Wanda." Jason leapt to his feet, Wanda quickly following suit. "I'm going to head there right now."
Wanda snagged his wrist and made him freeze. He turned to look at her and she sighed, pulling him into a hug. "Just...be careful, okay?"
Jason grinned, returning the hug. "Of course. And remember, don't tell Dick or Bruce."
Wanda gave him a wobbly smile in return, heading towards the door. She peaked over her shoulder at Jason, watching for a moment as he packed things haphazardly into a bag. "Goodbye, Jason..."
She ran out of the room and to her own, barely holding the sob back until she reached her room. She collapsed on her bed, curling into a tight ball as she let out all of her emotions through her tears.
I hope Pietro can forgive me.
Wanda stiffened when she heard the door open, wiping her face before turning to see who was there. Her eyes widened a bit when she saw Queen Bee and Psimon, not having felt their approach due to her sobbing.
Queen Bee sat on the bed next to Wanda, wiping a stray tear away from Wanda's cheek. "My child, why are you upset? You are one step closer to reaching your brother. You should be happy!"
Wanda nodded. "I am happy about being closer to Pietro, but not about leading an innocent to his death!"
Psimon rolled his eyes. "Its for the greater cause. Take out their youngest and a fracture will be caused, a weakness to exploit."
Wanda lowered her gaze. "It still feels wrong."
"My child, you won't be thinking that when you and Pietro are together again." Queen Bee pat Wanda's cheek. "We are very proud of you, Wanda."
Wanda nodded slowly, watching as Queen Bee and Psimon left. She wiped her eyes, heading to the bathroom to splash some water on her face.
Once she was more composed, Wanda figured she shouldn't isolate, as the team may find that suspicious given Jason's absence. So she walked out to the lounge, noticing the team were huddled together and looking at something.
Wanda made her way over, peaking between Artemis and Zatanna. "What's that?"
The team jumped, looking towards Wanda. Dick held up the paper they were all looking at, showing it to Wanda. "Jason left us a note, care to explain?"
Wanda gulped. "What are you talking about?"
Dick narrowed his eyes at her. "You were the only one outside of the family that knew about Jason's birth mother and now, after having met with you in secret, he left."
Wanda looked to the floor. "I thought I was helping..."
Dick grunted. "Do you have any idea what kind of danger he could be in?!"
More than you know...
Wanda bit her lip, feeling the tears return. "I thought that if he reunited with his birth mother, he would be okay again. Less angry. I'm sorry, I just...I would want someone to help me find Pietro too."
Dick's glare harshened. "If anything happens to Jason, it will be your fault."
Wanda nodded, gluing her eyes to the floor. "I'm so sorry..." She whispered, her body beginning to tremble.
"Hey, lay off her! She thought she was being a good friend." Zatanna wrapped Wanda in a hug, one Wanda melted into.
"If you told him where his birth mother is, can't we just go after him?" M'gann pointed out, all eyes returning to Wanda.
Wanda hesitated, formulating a plan in her head that would keep everyone happy. "Of course, it may take some time as to pinpoint her exact location, but I have a general idea."
"Well, then, what are we waiting for? To the bioship!" Wally sped away in the direction of the hangar.
Wanda trailed after the rest of the team, taking her seat in the bioship as M'gann booted up the system. The team looked over at her and Wanda nodded, pretending to reach out telepathically. "They are in Ethiopia, so if we start heading in that direction I will be able to pick up a stronger signal, so to speak."
The bioship took off towards Ethiopia, the team all stuck in their thoughts for a few moments before Artemis spoke up. "We will probably beat Jason there, right?"
"Unlikely, he stole the Batplane two hours ago." Dick grunted.
Wanda's eyes grew a little. She hadn't realized she had locked herself away for so long. Wanda gulped, silently praying for the bioship to fly faster.
She found a way to circumvent killing someone and the team finding out of her betrayal, but it all depends on when they get to Jason.
And right now, it was looking like they weren't going to make it in time.
